One thing I like about african american hair is you don't need to do much to get a bump. I remember I was running with a group of my friends at school and one of my white friends asks me, "Did you stick something in the front of your hair? Your bump looks perfect" lol I thanked her and said no
i didnt think anyone else was rockin banana clips, but me lol!...i been using them for my stretches this year and they work out real great, glad to see some tips on how i can use them and reduce the humidity damage....thx
Kimmaytube u r the bomb...I have started my protective styling, washing, and conditioning methods. I must say the very next day, I had little to NO breakage along with hair all over the floor. Thank You once again. Could you do a tut on when, why, and how to trim your ends. My hair has been at a stand still, it gets bushy but no length hardly. Help me please!!!!
Love these quick simple hairstyles, I've tried all of them and baiscally almost perfected strecting out my hair using your method and another youtubers method. Although I don't have a bananna clip yet i used my goody band, and it was cute.
I read the NYT article of 6/8/2011 you comments were on point. However, I have a suggestion for everyone. Since WE control a multi-billion dollar industry, why don't WE as consumers of natural products ask that a portion of sales go to research. Forming an alliance with Black universities and colleges on research on education on OUR OWN hair and skin.
I'm tired of hearing no-a-days in not so subtle ways that we're STILL less than whites.
I really hope people grasp what you just said which is HUGE. There should be way more research! I cant even begin to list all the reason why. But my indpendent research project will defiantly be on African American Hair. I have some points to prove.
I'm so glad that I found this one. What happened to the one with " Ring my bell" in the background? Well anyway this video is the reason why I started subbing your videos. I love it. So informative ! Thank You Kimmayoutube!

TIP: for look #3 my hair was too thick to fit it all into the clip so i part my hair horizontally from ear to ear. then i secure the top section w/ the clip & pin the back section up. it also creates the illusion of a bigger puff! =) hope u dont mind me leaving this quick tip!
I picked up some banana clips when you first loaded this video. I had not realized until now that it was nearly 2 years ago. I need to break out my banana clips again for summer!
OH ... MY ... GOODNESS!! I just put the banana clip on my hair for the first time & I LOVE IT! I have been natural for 3 yrs now, & have never worn my hair out (still wear wigs) because I have traction alopecia, & my hair line is about an inch & a 1/2 from my forehead, and the side are very thin. I HATE THAT! However my hair is longer then its ever been: APL when stretched (had a few set backs during the 3 yrs). But this summer I'm wearing my hair out. NO MORE WIGS! Yaaa! Woo Hoo! :-) Thx Kim
lol this video was fun, I really enjoyed it! I have a few banana clips that i can never use because I've always tried on wet hair, but now I know dry and stretched lol. Thanks!
what up kimmay? i just received the ph strips from your website after giving up trying to find them at a physical store. i cant find those suckers anywhere! anyways how long and deep should one leave the strip in the substance? (that kinda sounds funny :-)) thanks.
Love this video. I had no previous idea on how to style my natural afro hair - credit goes to you for such great instructions. Gonna run out and get me a banana clip STAT, Lol. You are very talented and smart lady. Keep up the great work. Canada loves you. :)
Are You Gonna Start Wearing your hair straight most of the time since its getting longer ? Just wondering because most of the other women with long natural hair here on youtube seem to
Oh, Kim, I so love this vid. I received my order from Luvnaturals today and just tried three of these styles. I love them. My twist out succummed to the weight of humidity today and now I know tomorrow I can still rock it without having to go the puff route. Thanks so much and great service from LuvNaturals. I will defintiely be back for more products. :)
This is my all time FAVORITE video! I love the creativity and versatility of the hairstyles, I never knew such cute hairstyles existed for natural hair. This is the reason why I went natural. Thanks Kimmay :o)
Great styles! You really make styling of natural kinky hair look beautiful and easy. Whenever I wore a bananna clip it was in one style. Really can't wait to try em all, thanks.
i tried the last look... and it was GREAT for the gym, and my co workers all loved the "change" in my hair since i always wore my hair in a puff!! thanks kim
Hi Kimmay! Mari from blog talk radio with the 3rd question lol. I found that Jane Carter Solution Leave In condish spray worked really well as the Panthenol based one.
What kind of styling are you doing now that your hair is so long? My hair is about the same length as yours and unless im flat ironing it i find it hard to find a natual style. PLEASE HELP!
Just wondering, I've been a subscriber for a while, i want to make sure i have this correct, just what EXACTLY is your hair regime? how important is the stretching? You said you reapply your leave in conditioner ever 2 -3 days in the remarks of your basic hair struc vid pt 4, you only apply on CLEAN hair, but you stretch ypur hair with shea butter. Im just confused, you say you wear twists 90% of the time, i get that, but how often do you moisturize and stretch? I just wash, detangle, deep condi
Thanks for puting this video up. I will try each and everyone of those styles. I have been stuck on my twists out and haven't tried any other styles. Thanks Again!!!
Thank you as always for your videos. I love this one and although I'm only 4-1/2 months and about 3-1/2 inches in to my natural journey, I am saving this as a favorite for future styles, maybe next summer, hmmm.
I am so happy that you brought back these videos because sometimes I could find myself in a style rut and this has just inspired me. One question... I noted that you stopped using the Giovanni smooth as silk conditioner, so what are you using now as a replacement?
This was the 1st video I saw of yours back when I decided to transition. I'm so glad you uploaded it again. So now I can add it back to my favorites! :)
Due to carelessness (I'm admitting it lol) my hair became dry to the point where there is knots and where my hair WON'T retain any moisture and my curl pattern is barely there. I've been told to deep condition more often, use a silk scarf/pillow case, and all the basic moisture retaining steps. But something tells me I either have to cut my hair (eeek!) or do something more drastic.
I am dying to know what shampoo, conditioner, and deep conditioner you are now using!!!!! I've seen in another video that you have changed up a little. By the way thank you soooo much for all of the knowledge you impart. My hair is in the best condition that it's ever been in thanks to your advice :-)
@kimmaytube what do you put on your hair to make your curls so loose and managable?, i have gone natural and i don't want to use a texturizer on my hair.
@angelicwarrior31, that's just how her hair is. It's not just about "what you put on it/your hair " but ALSO, how you handle your hair. It's a both, and situation, ya know? You might want to look through some of kim's past vids. It might help you to "see" how gently she handles her hair dry, wet and once the kimmaytube leave-in has been applied. I hope that helps ya! :D
@Mwalissa This is such a good question! I want to know too. I loved all of these styles, but find I can't do them as easily anymore, after being natural for 6 years, at least not if I want my hair to retain length. I'm loving the length, but missing some of the snazzier styles. I was giving myself "weekend" big hair days, but I the tangles are still an issue if I do that.
I remember when this video was up a few years ago. I love your hair and your videos! I just purchased some banana clips from you, lol. You're good:) Keep up the excellent work!
"Human hair growth speed peaks in the summer (between March - July)" - Whoa.. did not know this. Now I'm excited to see my growth for sumer!! My hair is about the length of yours in this video.
You had me confused for a few minutes lol. I didnt see the date in the corner and I was trying to figure out did I miss a video on you cutting your hair or something.
oh man! I completely forgot about my banana clip! I was so in love with it at one point. My hair is so thick though (and I have a large head...lol). I hope it still works.
wow, this is the first video of you that made me sub 2 your channel. The many styles that you did with the banana clip were inspirational. Happy 2yr YT anniversary!!
I have a question. I know that you said you do not wear your hair in a shrunken afro because it's difficult and adds more time detangle and breakage, and I understand that completely. If ever you wash and condition your hair and just let it air dry, does it dry in that really tangled state. or does that happen when you try to do something to your hair and it doesn't dry all the way?
I was literally just playing with my banana clip (from your store) for the fro hawk. My hair needs to be stretched more, but I wear the "conservative work look" often. Thanks so much for all of the tips, videos, knowledge, etc. Please keep doing what you're doing.
Wow! I remember watching this a little over a year ago with less than 1inch of hair. I am now 14 mos. post BC so this reload is right on time as I am now able to reproduce these looks. THANKS!
congrats on your 2 yr YT anniversary. I subbed to you from my old Channel (smblyther) in Aug or Sep of 09 when I was transitioning. Its amazing how much length you have retained since doing this vid. CONGRATS in 50K subbies too!!! I love your vids...keep them coming!
Congrats are definitely in order here on both counts, so "Congratulations!!!" I don't remember exactly when I started watching your vids, but I do know exactly when you got my attention, and you've had it ever since. I have & continue to learn a lot from you, and your shared knowledge has allowed me to reach my hair goal which is "naturalstronghair". Thanks Kim! :)
I learn so much from you!! My hair wants to be like your hair when she grows up LOL but seriously congrats on 2 years I just hate that I've been missing it...one of the first videos of yours that I saw was so right...SEEING people handle their hair really helps..
My hair is in braids right not but when I take it down I can hardly wait to try other protective styles that give my hair a break but are not so tedious to put in or take down. Thank you!!! Li Love banana clips!!
Congrats!!! I see you are more than LOVED!! I am a new subbie and recently natural...3/20/11.... i have already had about 1/2 in of growth...i transitioned since may '10...BC 3/20/11 (had 6 inches at longest point which was front of head to bridge of nose)..then BC again 3/23/11 after I realized i still had permed ends...so i had 3 inches...which was just above the center of my forehead at it longest point!) now barely a month later and already 1/2 inch of growth...yay!
I recently started rewatching all of your videos again, and I was about to send you a message and say hey what happended to all of your other videos...lol. I know you have a ton of videos posted now, which I love watching, but I was missing some of your older videos, especially the style ones. You are my hair inspiration. So thank you for reposting this one. I just hope you find time in your busy schedule to repost some of the other older videos. So congrats on the 2 years, and thank you.
WOW! I remember this video! The pompadour in the front with the horizontal banana clip is still a staple style that I wear after taking my twists down. Wearing it horizontally is like the brightest idea ever!
I call you my Natural Hair Mom lol . You give me the facts, nothing more nothing less and you're really no nonsense when it comes to natural hair education. My hair has grown tremendously because of your advice. Thank u !
Honestly Kim, this series of your videos is how I was introduced to you and I've been hooked ever since. You shot this June of 09 and I decided to go natural August of 09. I am a long term transitioner and it will be 21 months May 1st and that is when I am doing my big chop.Thank you for being a huge inspiration for natural hair care.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for reuploading this vid! Still loving it. And btw, Kim also touched on the subject of the stretching her hair in part 2 of her hair journey. My hair length is almost what hers was at the beginning of that video so I tend to watch it often to remind myself of protective style options.
Kim, congratulations girl you are doing great! 50,000 subscribers strong and growing. Quick question: I see in your stretching video that you don't use Giovanni products anymore due to a formula change. What shampoo, conditioner, and deep conditioner are you using now?
Thank you for the reload... my first luvnaturals purchase I got some banana clips and I couldn't figure out how to style my hair with them.... yes I could have did a search...but YOU are my hair idol...! LOL... I love the various options you show!!! congrats on your milestones!!! Keep up the GREAT work!!
thanks sooo much for this i just chopped off all my relaxed ends yesterday and have about this much new growth and did not know what to do with it so thanks :)
Thank so much for the ideas! I just got the clips about a month ago from your shop. I have been wearing them, but never considered the styles you have shown here today. Thanks for all of your creativity. Your videos ROCK! :)
This is so funny to me...a few days ago my banana clip that I won in a YT contest over 6 months ago, magically appeared on my table and I immediately thought of this tutorial!!!!
I'm in protective style mode until summer, but once it hits, I'll definitely be using this! Thanks Kim!!
One thing I like about african american hair is you don't need to do much to get a bump. I remember I was running with a group of my friends at school and one of my white friends asks me, "Did you stick something in the front of your hair? Your bump looks perfect" lol I thanked her and said no

I'm so happy you made this video, I've damaged my hair in the past using pantyhose, and I haven't thought about wearing a puff since. U r wonderful.
naptural2 11 months ago
oh man! I completely forgot about my banana clip! I was so in love with it at one point. My hair is so thick though (and I have a large head...lol). I hope it still works.
SweetnSourqt3 11 months ago
wow, this is the first video of you that made me sub 2 your channel. The many styles that you did with the banana clip were inspirational. Happy 2yr YT anniversary!!
kharyzma4u 11 months ago
I am not natural but I am gonna try these hairstyles. I will do a twist out to get the volume
carolyn198205 11 months ago

Li Love banana clips!!
keeshrose 11 months ago

Wearing it horizontally is like the brightest idea ever!

when im done transitioning, the frohawk will be my first natural style :D
its kinda what inspired me to transition, ive always wanted to be able to do styles like that but since my hair was relaxed it just didnt work.
when i cut off all my relaxed ends im gonna whip my little frohawk out and be workin it, haha i cant wait.
thanks for your vids kim, i really appreciate all of them, you put so much effort into them.

Awesome. :-) Sorry it's just now available for viewing. The original upload got muted by Youtube a while back (because of a music copyright violation)
So I had to redo the whole voiceover. I've got a few more tutorials on how to use banana clips for styling hair.
Thanks for the compliment. You're sweet.
