  • Hi Great Lick, I'm a novice learner and I'm now practicing the lick, HOWEVER what I really want to know is how to play that Shuffle - it sounds like a bit og a SLAP on the E A and B - PLEASE can you show the strumming in a new Vid, that would be fantastic.

    Cheers, Goodbar UK

  • The tab is different to what you play. Don't know if you knew that but I thought I'd point it out just in case :)

  • Hey Pal...What's the exact model name of the rosewood Fender Strat?

  • thanks !

  • nice tutorial - cool lick !

More Blues-Licks you will find at my Youtube-Channel BluesGitarreLernen or download free sheets & TABs - Blues-Licks- at blues-spielen.de

  • That is extremly easy to follow and fits very nicley into some of the

  • nice instructions. .very easy to follow. thanks

  • Could be interesting for some students. I just uploaded some new free lessons for Beginners and for the Jazz Blues progression.

  • do they show the shuffle tabs as well?

  • Excellent!

  • Is it E-A-D-G-B-e scale? I'm noob at scales, sry if i didnt get it. And awesome lesson, btw! You fucking rock, man.

  • nice lesson! Also, checkout Robert Deans guitar teaching vids on youtube..awesome

  • Trying to learn this right now, makes me wanna be a rock star!

  • This isnt so much of a lick as it is simply running through the E scale backwards.

  • Good stuff man I had to pull it out and put my shuffle in front and run your riff and back to shuffle and I'm getting it mind melded as it will draw folks on open mic' night in the bar with some lyrics thrown in, thanks for the quick scale builder!

  • POD!!! :D

  • awesome blues lick :D

  • I think the tabs are wrong. the 7th and 8th note in the tab are not played in the video, correct?

  • very helpfull !!!!

  • That sound like the beginning of Hey Joe

  • how many pentatonics or minor pentatonics are? im confused about it...... so the E minor penta. its the blues scale right? thx

  • what affination is it?

  • Seems your lead line is too long in time for the shuffle rhythm in the opening example. Just my take.

  • Thanx

  • gosh i love this lick. it's an excellent ender.

  • Fender rulez!!!

  • How is this called xD?

please can someone tell me and mail it to me ;D?

  • I love you

  • Great lick, I got it down in about half hour and love it!

Works great as a filler and you can break it down and use part of it for another run.

Another great exercise is to practice the same lick an octave higher at the 12th fret.

    Thanks for the tip!

  • The tab on the screen is a little off, you said not to play the open B string before the A# to A slide but I definitely see a 0 there indicating to play the open B.

  • Good stuff - thank you

  • Nice lesson. What about the shuffle? I guess I'm suppose to know that already.!

Hey ...when your brother finger popped his first chick did she gag? LOL!

  • thanks for the lesson dude very helpful

  • is this tuned down a half step?

  • Hey sorry bro .. it looks like your tab is reflecting a b Flat back to b that you miss in your lick

  • If I'm not mistaking, The song *Shaking all over* from the Guess who, is a great exemple of that open E...Thanks for your videos..After of not playing (Due to a serious wrist injury) there's nothing like good ols basic blues to put you back on tracks.

  • atay

  • How do you determine what fret an 'E' or 'A' would be on any of the 6 strings?

  • how do you do the shuffle ?

  • crappy lick, crappy lesson

  • @laricxx appreciate what others trying to contribute.

  • @laricxx get the sand out of your vagina

  • @laricxx Crappy comment

  • doesnt he start 3 fret e string?

  • Crappy Lick..

  • @Gagagrr put something you did on so we can all dis you

  • awesome lick thanx for shareing and nice and slow too!

  • what is the meaning for "blue scale"?

  • The blues scale is a minor pentatonic scale with an added flat-5 note. In the key of E, the flatted 5th note is Bb (3rd fret G, 1st fret A).

  • @haywyre62 That's an interesting scale. I usually avoid the open E blues scale at the nut preferring to play it elsewhere. No valid reason, I somehow got the idea that it sounded odd so I preferred playing that scale further up the neck utilising a different formation. Your way makes it sound more interesting, you have a convert. Thank you.

  • @haywyre62

    thanks

it's all what i need to understand the blues scale

  • @TheWicked200 It's minor pentatonic. 1,3(minor),4,5dim(diminised),5, 7dim. In E it's E,G,A,Bb,B,D.

  • your tab is wrong!!!!!

  • where can i buy those fingers ?

  • @psychobobek Long fingers are useful but short 'n thick still does the trick! How about Django? He had only 2 fingers for soloing as his 3rd and 4th fingers were fused together in a caravan fire. He worked around it, using his fused fingers for chord formations that suited. I have short fingers and play like the devil.

Physical idiosyncrasies aren't an issue, we all work around what we have using our MIND. Our greatest hold backs are in our minds. Once we KNOW that fact, nothing can hinder us.

  • @psychobobek Three things you should do to get better I; Practise 2; Practice 3; Practice..never give up.....

  • @psychobobek

Easy shit brother. Start with one note and feel it. Progress from there. Get the scale and grab some fuckin' notes.

  • I like your brother's guitar!

  • thank you...would you mind posting tabs or a lesson on your shuffle?

  • How do you do th nice shuffle? :)

  • great lesson,

    simple and sweet

  • The TAB doesn't match what you are playing. At 2:32 you warn not to go back to the open B, but that is what the TAB shows. Woops!

  • Really good vid thanks and I'm looking forward to checking out some more.

  • Oh, forgot something. I'm a beginner, could you do the little shuffle and "run up" as well, or point me to a video/tab for that ? Thanks in advance.

  • Wow, great video. Thank you !

  • hah,I have the sam guitar,its the japan contemporary,great guitar,rare.

  • Yeah, it is a great guitar. I need to get it some work done on it. Somehow, I lost the locking nut during my move from Germany back to the USA. It just needs a good overhaul.

  • I also got it from Germany,I lost tremolo arm and I cant find it anywhere because its different from normal fender tremolo.

Does your strat has black neck?

  • Yes, it does have a black neck. I got mine in the U.S. I traded a scuba tank for it back in 1988. I think I got the better end of the deal. :)

  • Thanks for the video. Good lesson.

  • STR8 ta favorites guys! Great lick.

  • dude..that was sick...but you should have first pointed out that its is just he most simplest penitonic scale in the key of E

  • I did. It's in the info box. Technically, it's the E blues scale (flat 5's added to the pentatonic scale).

  • one quest:

How can u create ur won licks?

    What chords do u need?

  • play around with the notes in the pentatonic scales.

  • thanks man awesome

  • Thx man, helped me out a lot.

  • nice little lick....not to make bad comment but look at your tab on top....you show going back to the b then back to the a# then the slide....just a little laugh cause I woulda done the same thing.

  • thanks man that was gr8! you 2 are amazing guitarists!! XD

  • cool lick - thanks, fits nicely w/ the E shuffle.

  • Thanks.

  • blues on |m/

  • nice thanks

  • SRV baby

  • Really good lesson dude

  • my friends were fuckinn amazed =) your awesome =) 5 stars

  • Good but tab doesnt match what you play ! Cheers

  • Awesome - 5* - Added to favourites

  • Sorry, noticed you had already seen it! Nps..

  • Is it an error in the tab there? the eighth tone says to go back to the second string but you don't do it when u play it..

  • I've not been playing the guitar very long, but this guy has really helped :) Already I've taken what I've learned and made something of it :) Good and easy to follow :) I'll be looking for more videos :) Thank you :)

  • bommm

  • wtf? you rock so fucking hard. i love this fav n sub

  • good job mate :P

  • There's something weird in this riff, especially in the rhythm. It seems there are some superfluous notes, don't you think?

    Anyway, cool riff, thanks :)

  • I get what you mean, hes not hitting the snares right, he is hitting them one by one, but to get the powerful sound you need to hit more strings, also the rythem same thing, good vid though

  • Yeah i agree

  • I think so.

They switch from the I to the IV chords WAY too fast. =)

  • Thanks for the lick - but you say don´t go back to the open B from the Bb but your tab shows going back ( note the 7th. and 8th marking show 3 then O). I guess it doesn´t matter much since you say it but you might want to change the tab.

  • I'm a self taught shredder but haven been wanting to get more into the blues. This has been very helpful , thank you. I believe the title of this is 'E Blues Scale Lick' not 'finger placement technique lessons', so to all the critics out there be grateful people are kind enough to help instead of running your cock holsters!

  • so am i, for 3 months now or so.

  • Thanks for this vid , very well done and very helpful , too .

I look at it , while playing my baja telecaster and using my bedroom amp , every evening , lol .

    cheers

    .

  • thx, much appreciated

  • cool learned it...and added more to it...I guess I just like to ruin it :)

  • Where is your head?

  • is that tune in 440?

  • Why use the first finger in the third position? If you're teaching, use proper technique.

  • you're probably thinking Classical??? learn to say, "thank you" when ppl give you free lessons.

PS:try'n guess which finger I'm typing this with

  • Blues, jazz, & metal players don't typically use the index finger on all the notes in a riff. Each finger has a fret to cover, and as the index figer moves up or down, the other fingers cover the next three frets up. In your example, you switch from the index finger for all notes at first to the middle finger for the same notes when playing the entire lick. Thanks for the good intentions, even if it's not the best tutorial around on fretboard technique. It may even confuse some newbies.

  • thats funny as hell

  • this is in a first position E minor pentatonic scale right?

  • Yes. Technically, its the E blues scale because it has the flatted 5th (Bb, 3rd fret, G string, and 1st fret A string).

  • hmm one of those licks you think is gonna be easy to learn but takes a while to nail... nice one mate... i appreciate the cool lesson

  • thanks for the lesson. One question: At 2:45 you say don't go back to the open B, but in the tab you go back to the open B.

  • "Do as I say, not as I tab"

  • right on. hopefully i can get to-- "do as i play, not as i say"....thanks again for the lick

  • it's a fender guitar?

  • Yes. A Japanese strat circa 1987.

  • im a blues fan!

  • es malisimo y tenes menos onda q un disco de shakira

  • great lick thanks

  • woops i ment 1:22 (aprox) good job any way thx! helped alot!

  • u meeen 2nd sting 3 fret.. LOL (at 1.28)

  • blue lessens

  • Scales belong on fish....

"Bar chords keep the door shut"

CAW (self taught) 3 years intense effort

  • tab doesn't match what you do

  • Hey man, anyone answer this. why tell us not to play the open B in the lick if its tabbed that way!?

  • You don't need to play exact like in this vide. Make it your way. That will be best.

  • Please learn the shuffle used in the demo

  • the first guitar look like a cheese guitar

  • chord at the end of the riff? anyone?

  • E7#9

  • thank you, kind sir

  • Thanks for this vid. I learned this and use it all the time.

  • thanks mate!!

  • hey can you give me the ''noten''

i'm very interrstedt in this song

    Thilo from germany

  • thanks man that's very helpful.can you send me the tabs?

  • dude theyre on the screen

  • It's good but you only use ONE finger to do the riff. It's better to use all four. Just my 0.02 cents.

  • its better to use all five, jimi was known for using his thumb to reach over the neck and fret bass notes rhythm riffs, its a really practical idea

  • I play with my thumb on the top E string on the first 5 frets...idk y

  • huh? lol never seen anyone press a fret down with their thumb lol.

  • I kno its weird lol

  • jimmy hendrix does,,,

  • i do all the time frees up fingers

its good to fret bass notes with in barr chords

  • You must have a big thumb

  • That's what she said.

  • Totally.

  • i do that too. i play with small necks like on a fender strat or on a b.c rich warlock. i prefer playing with smaller necks becuase my hands are big and thalts whats more comfortable for me

  • i like what you did with the tabs on the screen nice job :)

  • 1:30....d is on the 3rd fret 2nd string

  • thank you very much, wish you'd have done some chords too though

  • what a great lesson thanks . Its fun too

  • The tab is not quite the same as the demo - you've added 2 extra notes (7th and 8th)3,0 on the tab

    Phil (Guitar teacher)

  • how do you play the schuffle!!???

  • dude why is all about your brother?

  • Ok, this is a fun lick but this is confusing becuase you say that you shouldn't go back to the open B string but ITS IN THE TAB...

  • Yes, there is a mistake in the tab. Sorry for the confusion.

  • whats that riff that started at 0.23 please reply. cheers

  • good lick, but why using only 1 finger?! that's definately not the way you want people to learn it!

  • wat the fuck is wrong with Mozart...Mozart is PIMP!!!!Mozart was the fuckin Rock N' Roll back in that centry..

  • the blues speak about dirty things, so kk5fe why you just dont go to listen the fuckin mozart? because the blues is so fuckin dirty for bitches like you asshole

  • i say what i want and the blues is fucking great!! asshole

  • the blues is fucking great!!!

  • There is an extra b-flat and open b after the pull off from d-flat to the open b. Basically the seventh and eighth notes in the tab aren't in the actual lick.

  • there's an extra note in the tab. the open b, eighth note. right?

  • for those having trouble with speed. try playing along with a metronome at a considerably slow tempo unil you perfect the lick then speed it up by 5-10 bpm each time until you're shredding like a maniac. but seriously though, this will improve not only speed but timing and fingerboard dexterity. i dont usually put instructions out cuz im like a noob at guitar aswell, but this sounded like a good tip. sorry if this offended you haywyre :S. but i think you wont mind. have a nice day guitarists

  • I don't understand the chords before the solo..

  • Think you got an incorrect tab.

  • awesome lesson, btw your guitar has incredible tone

  • I know it by heart right now, but I just can't do it that fast as you do on the vid... any tips?? lol
