  • THE BACKING VOCALS IS TRADEMARKED FOR THIS SONG

    MICHAEL ANTHONY IS GOD!!!

i dont think wolfgang could do this.

  • It sounds sped up - all the songs from that Gene Simmons demo sound sped up. It's like the chipmunks do Van Halen!

  • "Gi-tar!"

  • The bass line is GREAT!

  • good old sounds hard

  • hello im the devel.

  • I actually like this version better than the album version! Roth kinda sounds like Steven Tyler a bit..... The vocals rock in this version.

  • van halens gay. i love the david lee roth prank calls.look em up you will never take tthis shit serious again.!!!!!

  • @orphan489 wow man you sure sound like you're an expert on who's gay........you get an A+ for your gay passion expertise

  • If im correct i think its sped up quite a bit from the finished song???

  • Something sounds very missing, even for a demo...

  • I always like demos better for bands, they sound like what the song is really supposed to sound like

  • Mike Anthony is the only bass player ever to make one note sound so freakin' bad ass!

  • let us all now bow our heads to thank the lord jesus christ for ted templeman.

  • Gene, never shouldve done that. KISS and Van Halen are awesome!

  • I have early Van Halen bar performances as well. The sound quality isnt that good but either respond or thumbs up if you'd be interested in hearing them.

  • @bornbrit777 um fuck yes lol

  • @Stormraven68 Boots down! lets go Terrorrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!

  • @bornbrit777 bar concerts right? yes please post them. i have a comp with a 1977 WHISKEY A GO GO show, santa monica high school and 7 studio outtakes.

  • I'm waiting for Eddie to turn into Lars Ulrich and come after me for posting these lol

  • Ted took this and made it sound really good, the thing about this its good ,but even van halen aren't perfect ever hear there bootlegs in the bar. Makes you realize that a good producer can make you sound 100% and that you have a chance at doing what they've

    done.

  • @darksith36 I have a ton of their early bar recordings but the sound quality is really poor on them. I can post them if everyone is ok with the poor sound quality

  • @darksith36 van halens 70's club recordings are better than this gene produced crap.eddie had the most amazing guitar sound.i dunno wtf this is

  • Simmons restricted these guys. Templeman unleashed their talents.

  • Gene worked as a producer for Van Halen in 1976.

  • hey, thats basic rock an roll.

  • i like this version better than the original, both hardcore but this is better is what i think

  • Eddie made me want to play guitar. Because of him,i do. Thanks eddie.

  • its hard to picture van halen before they broke out.

  • @tythefrog Just imagine the stage show how stupid people thought it must have looked at first....

  • @JDALIVETUBE Yeah no doubt, i agree. They were one of the first to start actually 'performing' and that turned into hair bands! mint!

  • This has been sped up. The vocals sound weird, the feel is wrong, and the tempo is too quick.

  • man, I would give anything to get all of these demos on a CD

  • Should have heard this on AM in those years... The old ones still rock ass!!!

  • My guess is that had Gene Simmons been successful in having them signed, they would have been ripped off of owning the rights to their music - thats just my guess - Gene Simmons aint one to not take half the pie at least -- good thing he wasn't able to get them signed -

  • @hazor777 True but i think that Warner bros took the rights then LOL.And everyband to date.Go to copyright office and search files there's a work for higher on every group. But they own there music just not the masters.

  • @darksith36 : Im not doubting that, but the flip side of all the rip offs from decades ago is looking at what the music industry has now......computer killed the radio & video "star"....

  • a classic.

  • I kinda like this version, its got a nice groove and a more upbeat rytthm.

  • This sounds like SHIT!!

Whenever Edward spews his bullshit about how it doesn't matter what amp he plays through, its all in the fingers, I listen to this.

Ed + Ace Frehleys amps sound like ASS.

  • @pflo99 I think you misunderstood his point, I don't think he was referring to the sound quality, but making the point that it doesn't matter what amp you play through, if you're great at guitar you will play great, and if you suck, no matter what you play through, it will still suck.

  • @pflo99 It`s a different thing how the amp sounds when you play and another thing when you record it. With an engineer who doesn`t know his shit, how to mike it up properly and so forth, it doesn`t matter who you are. It will sound like shit anyhow.

  • Nothing personal toward Van Halen,I like them.

  • Thank the good lord Ted Templeton came along, reigned in dave, got eddie's guitar tone committed to tape, and got old gene simmons away from our van halen... they would have made it with or without help from kiss members.

  • I have no doubt Gene produced this. It sounds like one of his awful demos. I love Gene demos, but they all have this sterile sound to them that puts them in an unfinished hell of a state.

  • @Nic1973KISS exactly, like Lick it Up and Animalize....

  • thanks for putting up the demo version. i like the live versions to show our young adults what they looked like when they ruled back in the 80s and also the hard to find hard copy studio version to show them what we heard. so they get the best of both worlds of van-halen. thanks and godbless.

  • McFly? McFly.....Hello...........

    Jimi

    jimmy

    Eddie

    Stevie

    Alex

    Steve

all killer guitarists, all with SEPARATE styles

  • @kenster2112 Alex... Skolnik? Lifeson? am i missing something?

  • I think I like this better than the album version...it sounds fresh and not over-produced.

  • this sounds better than the real one

  • Heres the great thing about music...it doesnt have a color barrier. Music isnt race specific. Its all about if it moves you.

  • @bornbrit777 agreed

  • @bornbrit777 Exactly. I'm black. I've listened to rock and metal since I was a toddler. I love bands like Kiss, Van Halen, Thin Lizzy, Pink Floyd, Bob Seger, etc. I never care what anyone else thinks about me because I don't listen to rap. I listen to whatever I like.

  • man i hate how people today say that music will never be as a good as wat it was dont get me wrong i hate modern music nothin over 1990 for me but instead of wineing bout the music lets go out there and show these fucking record companys wat music really is start bands bring rock/metal back for the next gen and ours if u like this post it spread it round learn instruments start bands and maybe the companys will c that rock aint dead and that its coming back

  • I love the intro in this song, "IIIII livemylifeliketheres.no tomorrooow."

  • @rikimaru1994 Funny. I'm a "nigger" but I'm listening. And I'm pretty sure if you said "nigger" in front of a "nigger" like me, we'd beat your ass and beat and rob you. "Nigger" style of course.

computer. If you don't like what is posted than wise up and don't let

your racist buddy use it! So yeah...you are to blame and you need

to accept responsibility for your buddy's actions while on your computer.

  • @rikimaru1994 It is very hard to accept your so called apology when YOU

tell us it was your "racist friend" who posted the comment. I wouldn't have

a racist for a friend period. So if you don't like being called out for being

a racist or have a racist for a best friend you might as well get used to

people voicing their opinion in protest of both you and your friends behaviour.

    Grow up!

  • @22infection

Do you know what a sentence is? Retard.

  • @Shoethiefking Victory.

  • THIS TOTALLY REMINDS ME OF LITTLE NICKKY

  • And they did...

  • oh man, everything sounds so much better here than the studio version. The drums and bass are amazing!

  • man fuck the 7 justin bieber fans who hate this

  • Check out the bluegrass version of this track- John Cowan Runnin With The Devil

  • van halen kicks so much ass they are the best band ever if you think they suck than you suck because they kill all of the crappy bands like system of a down and bullet for my valentine

  • Great to hear the evolution of this tune. Slowing the tempo down for the album version added so much (well-needed) sleaze. This still rocks, but doesn't touch the grit of the album version.

  • if u wanna c the real version go tto the 1st vid in related

  • This version is way better

  • Fahkin' excellent. Wasn't even aware that this existed, until now. Thanks for posting. Gotta agree with the comments regarding Gene Simmon's, luckily failed, attempts to try and "Kissify" (BARF! BARF!) V.H.

Makes me remember the Sex Pistols radio interview where one of them said something like " Kiss!? They can kiss my arse"

  • Comment removed

  • this is better than the album version

  • STILL A KICK ASS SONG !!!! .... after all these years ^_^

  • you suck... period

  • they tried to make them sound like KISS.. ugggh.. but even simmons couldnt completely ruin it...(almost) ..almost

  • I love this song so much and I think Eruption is kick ass aswell.

  • very cool version, i agree flanders ive never heard a good strong bass line in a vh song. not important when u have eddie, but i do love a good bass. michael was the great backing vocal all those yrs

  • NIICE! I'm pretty sure I do like this one better than the official version, springier beat.

  • this is actually almost better than the actual one

  • little nicky

  • Amazing.

  • and it was David lee roth that suggested they use eddie and alex van halens last name he said 'the name sounds pretty cool'

  • heres a fact van halen was orignaly named mammoth but changed it to van halen after they found out that there was another band named mommoth that made it big and changed it.

  • Do u find with van halen songs the bass is faded right out of the mix .

  • a great version

  • good demo!!

  • in this daves rushing the lyrics

  • to cool thx for posting

  • Fuck.......these guys were total bad asses back then.......so fuckin' raw and powerful.........you could tell they were gonna scorch the planet soon.

  • @Hunkola yeah this is a good song with a kick ass solo but some of their stuff is just jerking off , they call it cock rock.

  • the reason this sounds so much different is coz this is on kiss'sequipment at electric ladyland studios.not their own stuff.a decent demo though.

  • dude its like im in the 70's

id kill to have lived back then

  • Ya', it "was" good to be 19 mid '70'sand known as one of the hot up and coming guitar players on the local music scene and I paid my dues/ cut my teeth on Jimi, Carlos, Eric, J.Page & J.Beck, but we were all blown away when this EVH cat hit the scene. At 1st nobody could figure out how he was doing it. He was definitely like Jimi in terms of being Avante Garde or the 1st to do it in rock and roll terms!!!

  • Hell, Dave's vocals are rough on the album. lol Nothing new.

  • Dave is not a prolific singer, he is all about fluidity... this is what people missed when he left the band. No, I don't think he is better or worse than Hagar.

  • @saulocpp I understand the raw, reckless abandon...especially in a rock setting. Eddie's playing was like that, but even on the album, they polished Ed's tone and his playing for an easier sell. If people liked the recklessness about Dave...to each, his own. My point though, is that there's a way to be both totally rock...and refined with a good, professional performance. Sammy captures that much better and still had great stage antics. Personally, that's what does it for me.

  • @saulocpp hagar had a good voice but he was a complete tosser. It means jerkoff. dont what country you in .

  • interesting to hear all the polishing that they did on Ed's guitar tone for the album.

  • No, he wanted to name them "Daddy Longlegs".

  • This is good but how the first album moves me.

  • How Bill Aucoin heard this and decided there was no future for Van Halen is absolutely beyond me.

  • Despite being only a demo, this version is actually pretty kickass. Sure, it might not sound as refined or anything, but since when has that stopped true rock from showing its face?

  • Love all the songs from the infamous Gene Simmons-financed demo........but thank God Ted Templeman produced all the Roth-era albums..........Dave's voice and Eddie's guitar sound 10 times more powerful on the studio album version of this song.

  • I love this demo! Not too polished and you can feel the raw energy! Thanx!

  • I actually the vocals on this better, more vibrato , a lighter clearer voice and the falsetto doesn't sound painful.

  • One thing I noticed is that EVH plays the lead guitar break several times in this version.

This is a cool piece of rock history.

    Thanks for posting that bornbrit777.

  • Gene Simmons Helped these guys out a lot early on. In fact I think he helped pay for the first bit of studio time they had.

  • Funny thing is, when Simmons discovered them he was actually at the club to hear another band, The Boyzz. Simmons said on his website that Van Halen "blew my socks off".

  • Yeah! George Lynch was in The Boyzz!!!

  • yeah but he came to sing in the song

  • gene simmons thats kiss?

  • great song =] although, i do prefer the slower version better cus that really sets the mood that they were probly high...

  • I dig this version the most. Gene Simmons growl!

  • Every time I listen to this song I get an e-rock-tion. And this songs fucking amazing along with I'll wait

  • Comment removed

  • Ha! Love it!

  • I've been spending my night listening to all of these tracks from the "Zero" demo, and I must say there isn't one that I don't love. VH really should release all of the tracks on a remastered CD; I'm sure everyone here agrees that we'd all buy the album as fast as we could get our hands on it.

  • ...well said my friend :)

  • Amazing song!!!!!!!!!

  • all van halen riffs are just amazing!!!!

  • I like this version better, it's less compressed

    and sound warmer I think.

  • although this is still a decent number, thankfully they re did the song into the classic rock masterpiece we all have come to love, this song rocks

  • Fucking Timeless..........

Do i have to say more?

  • I think the vocals sound sweet, the guitar tracks and drum & bass are jus lacking that slam that the real version has

  • Ted Templeman did some magic with this song and the entire album......the result...a world classic!!!

  • there doesnt seem to be any echo on the guitar unlike the released version.

  • little nicky

  • THis is our school song dude!!

  • thx for this Epic vid

  • Thanks for posting this man this is the only sudio version that i can find on youtube.

  • Fuckin´ Epic

  • great song

  • it didnt like him to me at 1st but now it sounds a litle more like DLR

  • they're all great. but still irrelevant. jackass

  • YOU SAY SPAM

    I SAY SHIT

    DORK!!!

  • i love this song in detroit rock city the film of KISS

  • omg! i love that movie! im watching it right now!

  • AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!

  • whats that deeeerup in the beginning

  • it's eddie scraping the guitar pick across the strings

  • French paratrooper sounds like some sort of carnal position:X)

  • In my opinion better than CD Version

  • It's faster than the released version, which I do think is better. But it just doesn't sound complete, you know what I mean?

  • love it!!!

  • This song is the epitome of all things epic and awesome!

  • This is absolutely Dave singing. He just was not doing all the tricked out falsetto stuff on this demo

  • i wish i knew the name of the guy that is singin this. i dont think its DLR

  • What are you talking about? David Lee Roth is singing, of course! The rest of the band is doing backup vocals.

  • I wish I knew what drugs you have access to...

  • I Like so much. It's so cool to run " La Vie/The Life" and "La Mort/The Death" with the DEVIL.

Have a Good Time and take care.

    Sign by ex French Paratrooper...

  • It sounds wierd man. TOTALLY TUBULAAAAR DUUUUUUDE!!!

  • These must be the most rushed lyrics I've ever seen, lol

  • dear jcramer5150,

dont hate on greenday. truth be told their not that bad and their older stuff is pretty good. next time say o thats cool but i like van halen. or dont say anything. jerk

  • dont even talk about green day or any other band even similiar to that here.

  • This is pretty cool!

  • i like it

  • i luv this song!
