2CV's require a "Roller Coaster" style of driving, going as fast as possible down hill to gain momentum, to climb the next hill. Having confidence in your cars exceptional cornering and braking ability. Not always advisable with today's speed cameras.
You can engage First gear if you slow down to a near stop but still rolling engage first then "Clog it".
It´s a engine with 29 hp. :-)

There are a lot of hills where I live and I always managed. Once on a very steep gradient with 3 passengers - that was fun.

Was a TV programme, Survivors from 1976 filmed there?
davidjb65 1 year ago
@davidjb65 Not sure. Maybe, but I was 4 years old in 76 so I'm not the one to ask :-)

@justcallmesimon
Try 'Survivors' Epi 8 Pt.1/6 'By Bread Alone' Series 2. Its in 6 parts, but the 2 places look very similar.

the citroen mehari the 4x4 version would climb that hill
jaggass 3 years ago
The 4x4 was the sahara. The méhari is the blocky version with the corrugated plastic body.
znirk 3 years ago
Citroen actually made a Mehari 4x4 from 1979 till 1983. 1200 cars where made. Its was able to climb slopes of 60%!
The Mehari 4x4 was a true 4x4 with reduction gears, and not a dual engined 2CV like the Sahara.
One of the most able 4x4's ever made.

Go backwards, more weight on the front drive wheels means more grip.

Drop 'er into first!
chameleonday 4 years ago
drop her into first? you do realise he would have to stop then change down... 2cv's dont have syncro in first gear!
JoMo91 2 years ago
@JoMo91 wrong ! all gears are synchronized... I own a '63 one and it's like that.
2cv56 1 year ago
@2cv56 oh okay :/ i thought 1st had no syncromesh which is why you have to double clutch/ change into first at like 5mph or else it crunches...
