I have a question. :) I use Acoustica too but I'm a female vocal singer with a bit of a higher pitch when I sing, kind of opera-esque notes and softer ones. Is there anything I should keep in mind in terms of settings or do these tricks you gave us basically apply to all sorts of singing?
looks like you have about 900 worth of equipment and i hope you should know that its all being wasted on that crap mic.. you wont ever get a good sound out of that mic no matter what effects you put on it.. no offense get a good mic..
Great tips on some basics with minimal equipment, and much appreciated!
But I have some questions:
First on the recommendation for hardware compression. Could you comment on the need further. Does this apply more with inexpensive mic's or is it an across the board recommendation?
Further advice on affordable hardware compression units?
I have some other Mixcraft related questions, on other subjects as well, could you lead me to a good forum or user group to discuss them?
You really should EQ while listening to the whole mix. But, everybody does things differently. You end up with a better picture of the whole song. Also, your voice sounded "bassy" because your human voice does produce those "sub-bass" tones.
i'm sorry the advice was simply to your taste, you seem to have spent a lot of time on there.. however i absolutely hate that song, i'm so sorry, and the effects you added... no. it didn't help.WELL II'MA WAITIN' ON THE SUNRISE, CAUSE I GOT MY MIXCRAFT WITH ME, WELL II'MA WORKING ON AN ALBUM, THATS SO BAD THAT I SHOULDN'T BE, SO II'MA MAKE MYSELF A VIDEO, AND II'MA PRETEND TO HELP YA'LL OUT, WHEN INFACT ALL I'M DOING IS SHOWING OFF WITH MY SHIITY MUSIC TECHNIQUES NO DOUBT
can someone please message me and explain how to create these vocals in mixcraft so they sound smooth and nice like on a professional cd. i recorded my friends whose genre is hip hop, but i can not get their vocals to sound professional like on a cd. please someone help me.
okay, could we get one of these videos on best vocal effects 4 RAP & how to mix a RAP song? cuz maybe it just me cuz this aint my type music, but those vocals dont even sound that good to me.
You're trying to bring brightness in your singing. You should take singing lessons instead, those frequenties should not completely taken out. You make yourself sound like a jackass
hey i have an issue. why when im recording my voice with an instrumental track the voice records wrong and late ?? i mean when i heard the mix my voice sound early and the intrumental track sound good?
@mrjazziel go 2 *preferences* in *file* menu. u gotta play around wit the sample rate, bit depth, # of buffers and buffer size if ur using the WAVE option. it depends on da comptr but on mine sample rate 44100, buffers 8, bit depth 16, buffersize 4096.... try sumthin like that & it mite help. thatz what fixed it 4 me.
@MicAnonymous The human voice does not produce frequencies from about 60hz on down, there's no reason to have them there. The only thing they will do is hum or make "P" pop out. If you have too much low end in vox, they sound cheap or unproduced and stand on top the music rather being a part of it.
Can you pleaseeee help me with something ????? I want to sing on a song. (BUT I CANNOT SING) but i dont want to use autotune . . .any suggestions on something i could use to get help ?
@lilkjdabest8919 Gsnap pitch correction. If you upgraded to mixcraft 5.2, then you should already have it in your effects. otherwise, upgrade to 5.2 or download it from a google search. its free. It is autotune and the presets are all you need.
@sharbohemia Looping is for playback use, it has no effect on effects. If you want effects to only get used on portions of the track, you need to use track automation. There videos here for that too.
It just looks so easy when you do it but when I go home and try tweaking my own stuff it doesn't make the least bit of difference. I mean, it does, but not up to my expectations, and you didn't even record yours in a booth. I guess it would help to under the difference frquencies of EQ. I cannot get my vocals to stand out over my music and I have a 200 condesor mic
@CastleRecordz What is the brand and model of the mic? How is it connected to the computer? Yes being familiar with an eq and which frequencies affect certain instruments and vocals is a definite advantage.
@acoustica222 Thanks for the quick response. Well, I have an AKG Perception 200 Condensor mic. I have the mic plugged into a Behringer mixer and then in my mixer main output, I have a cord running into my audiobox interface.
@acoustica222 oh i see- thanks. And I meant to say when I plug it directly into the interface it comes out mono. But in my mixer I can adjust some of the levels and stuff, I guess I like that, but it sounds a lot better when I plug it directly into the audiobox interface.
@CastleRecordz The mic looks fine, I checked it out online. In my experience, behringer equipment is pretty noisy, not sure if that's a factor for you. I am not sure what an audiobox interface is, you might troubleshoot by skipping it and plugging into your computers line in or mic jack.
@acoustica222 Thanks for doing thr research on my mic. Yes, I believe the Behringer is pretty noisy. I think I'll try plugging it into my interface. And audiobox interface is made by Presonus or something like that. It seems pretty good. I used to have an M-Audio, but out of no where it became defective, so who knows. Thanks a lot.
@LastManStanding65 This is Acoustica's official Youtube account. We make these videos to help people get comfortable and familiar with the software. :) Anyhow, there is a good comparison chart on our main Mixcraft page....but the main advantage is price and power. We are actively working on version 6, right now, as well. Thanks.
@LastManStanding65 Sure, you get much more with Mixcraft than with other daw software but for less money. Also, it was extremely easy to use from the first day
hye , i just want to ask that what if theres no vocsteady? i dont have it in my mixcraft 5. and where can i get the other vst like what i see in your video here where there are plenty more than the one i have here in mixcraft.
@Ashiro21@Ashiro21 VocSteady is a third party VST plugin, you have to buy it if you want to use it. It just happens to be what I used here, you don't have to have it. You can use the compressors that come with Mixcraft.
@dennabalavac I don't know, I don't own one. Looking it up online shows that it has tons of digital effects, so my guess is that it does have compression. I would set up a preset channel on it which is completely clean accept for compression.
I was just wondering, I haven't got a interface. I just use a Samsom USB mic and Mixcrafts Virtual instruments now. Is there a way to put compression on the vocal without an Interface? Would the one under the fx list give the same?
@Topdoginuk Yes you can, and are encouraged to use the compression effects that come with mixcraft. THey will certainly help smooth things out. The reason I use hardware compression first is so that the signal coming into Mixcraft is already smooth, so the addition of the acoustica or classic compressor smooths it even more.
@acoustica222 Thank you. I'm thinking that it'd probably be better to initiate the compression via the fx before I start a vocal input. I'll experiment.
Brilliant videos! The looping function is great and I can see the fx are applied to the whole track. It's good to see a few explanations & demos of changing some of the fx edits and saying what they are for. I keep getting the occasional click/pop when using my Samson Mic but, I think I may have seen how to eliminate it here. I'll try. I must have missed these videos when Acoustica uploaded because I follow a lot more people on Youtube and the notifications change quicker! Thank U 4 uploading.
Thanks for the tips. I was just thinking a few hours ago about using a global compressor for one of my mixes. You made some great points.
