Adelaide finished top 2 every season bar 1. in the first season we finished first, we have made it to 2 grand finals (both against melbourne, but we will beat them soon in the final but we have a jynx on us, they are not better than us tho thats for sure.)

oh and mikey we also got to the ACL FINAL, and finished 5th in the world club cup, what have melb done? or any other team in the a-league.. newcastle got hammed 6-0 by pohang..? great.. adelaide beat them twice home and away, 2-0 away 1-0 home.. central coast got hammered 5-0 at home.. great. melbourne finished 2nd in their group but only cos the other 2 teams stuffed up in the last round

Waitakere didn't make the top 6, as one would expect. So, yes THE AU is the 5th best Football Club in 2008 going in par with all OTHER sporting tournaments.

I just would like to add that Ahly in this tournament was at its lowest form for the season (with respect to all others teams), normally they play in more advanced way, but thats soccer you win and you lose. Unfortunately, in the Middle East we are unable to watch most of the games due to timing difference, we are at work during match time, but seems Adelaide had the better chances and deserved to win. CONGRATS from an Ahly fan. Just a minor correction, when a team comes fifth in this championship they are not the fifth best worldwide, remember the fifth here won't necessarily be able to beat all European teams, which have only been knocked out by their champion.

Hence FIFA, the World Governing body, has made rules it deems fair. According to rules on playoffs, we are 2008's 5th best team in the world. It's like tennis .. NOT all tennis players play each other, yet we have a TOP (and 2nd, etc) world tennis player!

pookybiggins, you need to remember that FIFA is the WORLD GOVERNING body and they have a procedure in place, the Club World Cup, to rank the top clubs. It is NOT practical to have all teams play each other, like it is NOT practical to have all tennis players play each other. Yet we don't question why a 20th rank player is not 4th or 5th when they haven't played all tennis players. It's the same here. THE AU played by FIFA's rules and ranked 5th in CLUB status!

fully agree. Jets are the Derby County of the A-League. In my opinion, a massive fluke. it will be interesting to see how they go, although if they come up against a team like Urawa Red Diamonds or Gamba Osaka, we could be seeing a double-figure score against NJFC.

Personally they need to sack Dutchy after this season, and get in a coach that has expirence (Pierre Littabaski) would be a good idea IMO. He's coaching some 2nd teir dutch club i think.
