Just goes to show that a t1 spam can be beaten by higher tech sometimes. Not often, but if the techer gets to t3 it's going to swing the game in his favour. If you're going to spam then you have to overwhelm quickly.
I just want to know why in the world they didn't have any base defense other then a few cruddy units? I at LEAST have a wall of t2 artillery positions at the mouth of that entrance, not to MENTION the t2 point defenses! These dont seem like the best players to me, I'm sorry. But seriously, if you play against someone who is so unit based like this, then one of the best strategies is to get up to the higher tech REALLY quickly, and build up defenses REALLY early. plus lack of experimentals. =(
Select units, CTRL-click. Or, select units, then click and HOLD the right mouse button somewhere, then drag the mouse and you'll see a unit 'formations' menu. Left-click (keeping the right button pressed) to scroll through the formations. Once the formation is set, CTRL-click when you move units and they'll move in formation. Voila!
Stick at it! Get those shields & anti-air up early. I have a blog where I talk about the future of RTS & RTS game concepts; it's on my profile (top-left) if you're interested. If you ever play online via GPG gimme a shout!
Thanks. Supcom 2 has recently been announced, as well! Square-Enix (of Final Fantasy fame) are publishing & Atari are apparently co-developing with GPG.
That's it? I figured the unit limit on SupCom would be much higher. On my box, which doesn't even meet the SupCom min reqs, I can get 1k units on Spring (high quality free/open source 3D RTS which supports TA game data... defaults to a rebalanced mod of Total Annihilation units) with no lag; it sets the limit based on your hardware, up to 5k units. SupCom looks a bit better than Spring but not by that much, and the gameplay looks about the same (even down to the deformable terrain).
You mean lag as in online gaming, or as in lots of units on-screen/CPU load etc? Is there a unit limit on the 360 version? Also is it possible to play VS people on PCs on Vista (with that "Games for Windows" thing)?
My nephew just bought a copy so I'm gonna try it out at some point soon, though I've heard some fairly negative reviews so far. It's so far ahead of its time in many ways, but especially in terms of hardware requirements, just like TA was back in the day.
It's pretty frackin' cool although you need a fairly decent rig to run it smoothly, especially with large numbers of units. It almost suffers from being so far ahead of its time, like TA was back in the day. Bags of strategy in it though. Thanks for visiting.

You can jack up the unit count as high as your CPU can handle using a mod, like TA.

frame rate drops on the 360 considerably in 4v4 matches with 500 unit caps
but i think its aimed at smaller matches, no so much micro being so hard with a joystick and all.
more thinking than speed.

Total Annihilation is one of my favorite games of all time. Maybe I should get Supreme Commander.
