I always see 7 and 8 course lutes for cheap!! 6-8 hundred.Taylor and EMS brands.WHERE ARE THE SIX COURSE LUTES FOR THIS PRICE? All the six courses are like over 2000! Do you know why? You would think more wood and strings would be more. Right? I always watch your videos and hope to be that good someday.
@TheRichie213 Why not take a 7 ? Anyway those cheap lute are not very good... Save money and buy a good one... The difference is in quality and making, you can play with those cheap lutes, but better to have a real instrument.
Hello, nice one isn't it ? I'm referring to Arthur Ness classification for numberings of Da Milano's pieces (not Chiesa's numbering, used often by guitarists)
The tuning of the six first courses is the same on a 6 and an 8 courses, just the 2 basses on the eight tuned in D and F. But lute can be tuned at different pitches (here the lute have top string in A, some lute have top string in G or F, or E, but relative tuning is the same)
Yes, this version is in Ioannes Matelart as a duet with a conterpart by Matelart. But as for Dowland (the complete lute music, by Poulton and Lam) Arthur have to choose "one" version for his publication, from sometimes many others. It is sometime interesting to play the other versions too. (IMO)

Does anyone know if you can play six course lute music on an eight course? Or could you tune an 8 to a 6?
