You and Craig really make me want to start brewing. It looks so easy, once you know what you are doing. I also get the impression that it is almost fool proof.
I just started drinking beer in December. I've drank before, but I didn't like it or do it seriously. My first real drink was a poured Guinness, for free. I was addicted in the first few sips. I'm not an alcoholic, but I am a big fan of Guinness, and a few others.
@eugenetswong You're very welcome! It's a very rewarding hobby--a lot like cooking. And with so many beers out there, there really is no limit to what style you can brew at home. Good ingredients and knowing what they're for and how to use them is all you need. That and a little patience... something I continually struggle with! LOL Cheers Eugene!
@RJMDistributors No--these ones I had cooled down, but not quite cold. I wanted to really express the malty flavors--so I'd say it was probably poured around 45-50 F or so...
Great videos man. I'm an all grain brewer who is considering the move back to extract, due to inconsistent results the past couple of batches.
It's gotten too involved. I'm measuring salt additions and adjusting water chemistry, and although I don't hate the science'y aspect of brewing, it's reduced my enjoyment level during brew day. I feel like I have to do a million things at once. Who wants to do calculations while brewing? Just brew, drink, and have fun.
@Wortcraft Hey man--it's all about having fun and making good beer--which really can be done with some extracts and maybe some specialty grains to boost the flavor. I've been doing several AG batches lately myself, and I tell you--I'm envious of the quick brew sessions yet again. There are several folks on YT here that will tell you extract is crap--but I whole heartedly disagree. You can make excellent beer with extracts. Cheers--and best of luck with your next extract batch! :-)
@jmp911us Thanks! I've got lots more coming soon too--I've been so busy packing for my coming move I haven't had the chance to edit them. Two entire brewing series coming soon! :-)
@TheKonaboy65 haha--thanks! By then, it will hopefully all be in bottles. So--after a long day of moving, I'll give you one guess as to what I'll be doing... :-)
@RDM003 Hey Roy--for the stouts, I don't really mind it if they're a bit warmer than lighter beers--more traditional that way. For this tasting, I threw them in the fridge for a couple hours and then cracked them. For the lighter beers I brew, I usually leave them in the fridge for 4 or 5 hours before cracking them. I like the lighter beers colder and darker beers warmer--I think the flavors come out better that way. Cheers!
@Imasofat You should definitely give it another try! I saw your beer funeral video---so tragic! I've been lucky so far and haven't had any bad batches (knock on wood). Cheers!
@ricktech44 Thanks man! Yeah, I think giving it time to age will be just the thing to make it a spectacular brew. This will definitely be harder than the rest, because it came out so good, and so early on... Maybe my new tactic should be just to wait a couple more weeks before cracking one--that way I'm not so tempted!!! :-)
@TakeSomeAdvice haha--thanks! I think it would be good enough to sell, most definitely. The flavors blend really nicely together, and I think this one is going to age spectacularly! I'll definitely be pairing this stout with a pipe. The Irish Stout actually went really well with a pipe--the pipe brought out the nice dark flavors a bit more and they complemented each other really well. Cheers!

how did the alcohol content turn out?

@lividitydeath If memory (and my notes) serve me correct, this batch came out around 4.8% abv.

Great job Joe I think waiting a little bit for it to condition is a good idea.
But I know it's hard.

Wow seems to be full of body and came out great. The more time the better I'm sure!
Do you think it's good enough to put in a bottle and sell?
Try to pair it with a pipe!
