The Maxon pedals are a) Hideously painted like they tried to copy the original Ibanez 9 series but someone screwed up the colors b)they are ridiculously over priced c) and they sound like crap. I have an 80's Ibanez SM9 and compared to the new maxon SM9 the Ibanez blows it away. Maxon is just trying to milk the image they created with Ibanez and they are failing horribly at it
@BLCKBRDLS1 Umm...nope. Put any of these up against any reissue Ibanez, and you'll definitely hear the difference in sound. The maxon will win hands down. And btw, you're honestly complaining that the vintage sm9 sounds better, well guess what? MAXON MADE IT. Ibanez never made it's own pedals, it just created that image through Maxon.
@Ilovemyfender2 Im well aware they made them. A) I was referring to the fact that they simply reissued the nine series under their name and just altered the colors and some of the names to be different. And B I bought the Maxon Super Metal before I had the Ibanez version and it was a load of crap. Twice the price and half the tone. The Ibanez one has a wide range of tone when you alter the drive. The Maxon one barely changes at all when you lower the drive.
@BLCKBRDLS1 Well, A) do not judge final quality by a metal dirtbox, EVER. and B) exact reproductions of the 80s 9 series are exactly what people want, so don't blame Maxon for fulfilling demand.
i knew about ibanez pedals first so sorry if my first reaction to the the video is ill informed
B
maxon pedals look the same as the ibanez ones and no one that starts out will be able to afford these
C
they sound so similar therefore its probably an illusion that the more expensive one sounds better then the other cheaper one so why are you calling me retard if its that subjective.
ok wtf they look exactly like the ibanez series 9 pedals maxon=rip off artists
because all they did was repackage ibanez pedals or thats how it seems to me because they sound so similar to each other (maxon compared to ibanez pedals)
True... The original TS808 was made by maxon and all designs were originally by maxon. Ibanez series are actually just reissues of the orig which was made by Maxon as well.
if you use a distortion pedal on a clean tube amp, do you still get tube distortion? Would you get bettre distortion to just use the overdive channel of your tube amp?
Depends on how you set it. If you have enough gain (level) from the pedal you can drive the amp even on the clean channel and get overdrive. Otherwise, the overdrive/ distortion is coming from the pedal. Overdrive channel of a tube amp can sound great, but so can some pedals. There's a place for both, together and separately.
if you use a distortion pedal your getting the sound from the pedal (depending where in your signal chain you are). if your looking for tube distortion you would want to use a tube pedal or yeah just stick to your channel distortion.
These sound nice... but am I the only one that realizes that the pedal design and color scheme exactly matches that of Ibanez pedals? Still they sound very good.
great review brudda'

Maxon PAC-9 is my next pedal.
Ibanez does have a nice pedal out, the FL9 Flanger, sounds great with my Les Paul standard

It would sure help if he told us what his amp and amp settings are - otherwise its hard to really know what is going on up the chain.

You are such a royal dumbass. Maxon CREATED ibanez until the early 2000's (2002 i think). Every Ibanez pedal you own inferior to these.
