@weatherhed , Thank you so very much. Just reading Sprat Hall brought tears to my eyes. I was able to find pics on you tube. I lost my husband last year and looking at the pictures I felt him setting right next to me enjoying them.

I would love to buy a copy of Oh island in the son by Paul Caleb.

Also I would like to know if you are fimilar with the great house owned by the Halsteads, We honeymooned at this amazing home it was said to be built around the 1600's it was magnificent. They offered hourse back riding and it was located on a nude beach this was back in 1977. They seved us the most amazing dinners

and after would take us to his liqour den and tell us the most amazing storys. I have searched for months no luck.

wow, incredible vintage footage. this is pre-hugo. i keep looking for familiar faces or a young me walking around in town. the steel pan music in the background is perfect, i can almost smell the sea. one thing i miss so, so much is the feral cocks crowing all over the island in the morning, and this video starts with them. thank you so much, i have tears in my eyes.

Wonderful memories. This video was make when I was living there in the 70s. There was a 'mini' revolution, and things were pretty scary there for awhile. Do hope it's better now. Truly a gloriously beautiful island. I've been back once, and would love to visit again.

How is the crime rate at St. Croix, and the Virgin Islands in general? I'm planning on going in November, is it safe?

@catholicforever - very safe...they depend on tourism. They have a very good police department in St. Croix. Just don't go anywhere alone, and stay away from some of the areas out of town. Just like any other country or city. You wouldn't walk alone in N.Y. in certain areas...same here or any other island. St. Croix is a "microcosm" of any other city and you should use good judgment as you would anywhere else! Have fun...you will love the island and the people are very friendly.

I recognized the tone of that bell immediately. I have rung it many times. I was an acolyte at St. John's Anglican Church in C'sted in the late 1950s and early 1960s.

Yeah, St Croix is so beautiful and unspoilt, it's still green and not too developed like the other islands. And the beautiful architecture of Christiansted I thought was extraordinary. And i loved the barrier reef on the east side..and all those sugar mills everywhere.......it's really atmospheric and historic.....

I moved down there just before Luis in 95 and went through Marilyn too....lived there 10 months....would love to move back with any given hurricane. I love this island too!

My mom lived ther for 2 yrs and my mom's hubby for 10...they are planning on moving back if possible.

This brought tears to my eyes. Is this weatherhed singing? St. Croix is my home as well. I truly enjoyed the bit of old Calypso, and the view of my island. I'm coming back at the end of the month. My only complaint was the video not very clear, but thank you.

Fountain Valley Golf Course? How old is this Video?

Yo willosk, Interesting fact about St. Croix/Hotel on the Cay& murals.........When Joe Kennedy paid to have the pool in the Whitehouse renovated for his son, J.F.K., the walls were painted with a mural of Christiansted Harbor. The pool is now the White House Press Room and I believe the mural is in the National Archives.

Ohhh... St Croix!!!  Vacationed there to visit sister in law and hubbie... Both worked at the Good Hope School. Wife's Aunt and uncle lived there. She painted a mural now long gone in the Hotel on the Cay.... Which I always think of when I read "Stop the Carnival"

You will love it 30'...crystal clear. Excellent Hotel! Get to the "Lost Dog" in Frederiksted (West Side), Like any micro-cosm...just be alert and you will love it. The people are very friendly! Enjoy!
