  • As a guy, I'm not ashamed to say that that guy was good looking dude. Great voice too.

  • That song has so many hooks I just can’t get away from it. Thanks for posting this rare clip, too.

  • He could blow horn too..

  • Que Beleza!

Herb Alpert cantando This Guys In Love With You, e ainda por cima sendo apresentado pelos Carpenters!! Maravilhoso!

  • Herb is incredible! I'm a drummer, have MS, in a wheelchair, and his music inspired me to take up trumpet just a couple of weeks ago! I have a beautiful trumpet-to me anyway-an Oxford in mint condition! Just 6 days in--have the 5-note scale down and played some of this song already! Had MS related depression-my trumpet and Herb eliminated it 100%! Thank you, Herb---for all you did for me with your music! Trumpets rule! Drums too! I want to meet you some day! Merry Christmas, Herb and THANKS!!!!

  • the girl host is nico?????

  • ;)

  • here is the live faith no more version /watch?v=j-XzqcP79vQ

  • faith no more also does a great version of this song

  • Is that the Carpenter's doing the intro?

  • @andrewps84 Yes, those are The Carpenters. Richard and Karen.

  • wow, how good do you have to be to pick up a cold trumpet and perfectly play the solo?

  • Eu amo essa música! Também com o Faith no More.

  • Obviously lip-synched.

  • @tripjet999 I actually saw this when it originally aired more than 40 years ago (I was 10, and about to turn 11) and I essentially asked my parents how Herb could sing and play trumpet at the same time, and I don't know which parent said it (I think it was my mother), but whoever said it said that it was a recording. This is the first time since then that I have seen it!

  • Absolutely brilliant.

  • wow, this was our bridal waltz back in October 1980, what a great wedding, partied thru till dawn, and still in love after 31 years

  • A masterpiece of voice and composition.

  • Beautiful!

  • One of the most beautiful love songs of all time. If you want to hear my rendition of this classic, click me.

  • ophhh 1971 my birth year lots of great songs made that year ...sigh ..fell in love with this beautiful song ...Herb and Bacharach are the best >

  • @holysinner72 - yep

  • I much prefer the Faith No More version, it sounded very Sinatra-like. Alpert's version is just 70's pop.

  • @MeatTycoonDevious dickhead

  • @brownsbarn Where?

  • Respond to this video... Dumbass, Bacharach wrote this specifically for Herb, come back when you have a clue

  • @brownsbarn Yes, he did. Your point is...?

  • @brownsbarn Actually, Herb asked Burt if he had any unused compositions lying around that no one had recorded yet that he might use and this is what he gave him.

  • @tubiebrother estuve 17 anos y solo podria amor con shelagh de henley, cuando primero este cancion en el top rank/reading.de un amante de la bueno musica es el numero uno todos

  • @despuis En inglés, por favor.

  • my heart be still!!!

  • He's got that sexy 70's dude thing down!!!!!

  • This song had been a hit since 1968, so by the time he sung in 1971 it was a bit old. But to me, it's timeless.

  • That was my wedding song in1986...Love the song

  • I saw Herb's interview on the CBS Sunday Morning Show where he was choked up when asked about Karen Carpenter. It showed what an amazing human being he is as well as such a talented artist and humanitarian.

  • i saw a recent interview in which herb alpert still cried over the death of karen carpenter. he actually had to walk away for a bit. such a true talent, such a tragedy.

  • I know this gets said too often, But I have to say it again. They don't makes songs this good anymore.

  • ... the Nice Guy's lament for his unrequited... BTW... why is it that the sincerest, most endearing & most beautiful Pop love songs of the twentieth century were composed & recorded during the tumultuous era of the Vietnam War (1966 ~ @ '72)? Rhetorical question yes... but it is such a dichotomy... nonetheless...

  • Was in the 60's lived in Stratford upon Avon UK and fell in love with this record. Now 64 and it still sounds as good.

  • Ahh, pale colors..."That Girl" on TV....Sid and Marty Krofft...being a kid....Sesame Street...and this tune...yes

  • An amazing performance, true talent, passion and heart.

  • He was so cute!!!!!

  • This could be the most beautiful song ever.

    :-)

  • this sounds like a burt bacharach song, NOT A ALPERT song !!!! dont confuse matters here. this guy just sings this song. It's kinda of like qualifiying a car at the INDY 500 and then letting someone else in that same car for race day. Makes no sense !!!! ????

  • @gbop63 More often than not, Bacharach is not the best interpreter of his own material. Case in point: "(They Long to Be) Close to You" had been around since the early '60s and Burt had done several versions... his own, Dionne's and so on. It wasn't until Richard Carpenter arranged it for the Carpenters' recording that the magic happened.

  • @suntorypop with respect, this is a very trite opinion. Most of the time Bacharach's arrangement's lost their nuance and tenderness when they were made into hit singles for others, Close To You is a good example of this. As lovely as the vocal harmonies are in the Carpenters are, musically it's far less rich.

  • This means a lot to me,not only your love for each other, but i graduated from HHS.That is Hononegah High school and had a girlfriend i thought was my love for life! Guess that was puppy love :) Im very happily married now!!!

  • Summer of '68...OMG!!!!!!

  • one of the best seduction songs ever..

  • Parece un Muppet sentado ahí jajaja

  • Great song and brings back lots of memories from those times.

  • My husband used to sing this song to me. Thank you Herb Alpert.

  • @tsprague1 Yes, it is almost as if he is afraid to tell her . . . As he says, "my hands are shaking . . ."

  • Beautiful

  • Thank you Herb Alpert. This is the epitome of romance for me. I married my partner of 21 years at the weekend (I'm 50 - just a child when this song was released as a single). We played "This Guy's in Love with You" as we entered the registry office for the wedding ceremony, with a roomful of family and friends. It was magical. Everytime I hear it, I get goosebumps.

  • Amazing how he hums and plays the trumpet at the same time.

  • Thanks Herb & the Carpenters

  • Maravilha. Adorei!!!!! How can some people not like it? Less than 1%, but still, it seems impossible not to like it. No doubt they are deaf. Thanks a lot for sharing. Greetings from Rio, Brazil.

  • @BazanCristina I loved this music too. I'd stay very glad it.

  • I loved him as a singer too!

  • Real Music ! Amazing, does Not make your ears Bleed type of Music ! You need Not be blown through your windshield by bass to enjoy it either. Thanks Mr.Alpert .

  • bacharach

  • <3 <3 karen carpenter <3 <3 :) :)

  • wow.... This is truly a LOVE SONG omg i can pick out the great ones...............happy easter to all the crazie people out there

  • Ah, the lip-syncing 70's

  • I am so happy I went to visit Sergio Mendes while Herb was staying at his apartment in Ipanema!

I think it was the year of 1967, my friend Marianne and I, we called Sergio's house and said we were reporters and asked Sergio to send his chauffeur to pick us up in the country club

I fell in love with Herb, I was only 18 years old!

Now I am 62 and still think of the love I felt

His music is wonderful and as a person he is also beautiful!

    Thank You Herb!

I am happy you are happy !

  • @ben82jamin that must have been really nice

  • @ben82jamin - wow! Crazy! Thanks for sharing!

  • The realness and honesty of this song still brings tears to my eyes after all these years. I, like a lot of other guys(and gals) have lived this story. I love this song. Hear Albert is indeed a musical genius, and I count myself fortunate to have lived to enjoy his heyday of '65-'85. Thanks for this post.

  • @73MarkIV You got the years perfect, I am fortunate to have remember a lot of these songs. I was 5 in 1965 and my mom and dad, I can see them now dancing in our living room to our big stereo system. Such happy times and the world did not seem to be in such a rush!

  • herb albert cant sing but he can arrange a songt to where it doesnt matter.

  • Someone said in portuguese that he's a style man. I am brazilian too. And I love Herb Alpert.

  • Someone said in portuguese that he's a style man. I am brazilian too.

  • Is that the Carpenters in the beginning?

  • @HoltCalifornia yes

  • @HoltCalifornia yes it is

  • love this song so much x

  • one of my favourite songs from the 70s, anyone who thinks he is cool today, take a look at Herb Alpert and he is Cool!

  • one of my favourite songs from the 70s, anyone who thinks he is cool today, take a look at Herb Alpert and he is Cool!

  • Herb Alpert is one of my favorite human beings in the world. He deserves all of his good fortune. This man has given back so much to the world & like Karen when all is said & done he will have left the world a better place. He does for people, give money away, plus he gave the Carpenters the brak of a life time. Herby I still have them on everyday, it never gets old. Your music is great, you are great, & like Karen & Richard Carpenter, you are an inspiration to me. Thank you

  • @vmuto1 You know I like herb Albert to but I am so glad he found the Carpenters K aren is the best nobody better . I am a huge fan also thanks for all your great post about the Carpenter you are a true fan.

  • Herb Alpert - Forever you! You are the BEST.

  • Que homem estiloso!

  • great video.

  • Richard talks with one hell of a lisp, doesn't he?

  • He is so beautiful!

  • ONE OF THE BEST SONGS EVER!

  • @BARNEYFATSWALT Excelente.. Sou fã de Herb Alpert

  • This song, and the way he sings it melts my bones.

  • This man rocked in the sixties with the Tijuana Brass music and his own label A&M records. he deserved an special Grammy award as a recognition for his great music and also he'll be 74 y.o. next March31th.

  • @myryckyz Slight correction: Herb turned 74 in 2009. He just turned 76 in March.

  • Very enjoyable!

    He's lip-syncing the song, though.

You can tell when he plays the trumpet solo, he's also humming the song at the same time, which was an overdub on the record.

  • Simple words simple song.Priceless.Nothing like that today.Just classic.

  • Didn't Dionne Warwick have a hit with "This Girls In Love With You" back in the early 70's?

  • Wow, I hope the 20th century isn't going to be known as the cornucopia of music. Because I would hope that future generations would have a lot more to say in the music world, since the 20th century is just the beginning.

  • Talking about feeling like dancing. This one is the answer in all aspects, my dear. What do you think?

  • @ROSALBA7734

I do not know what to say, but I know that I just want hold you in my arms !!!!

  • is this the carpenters?

  • @cathycastleton Yes, that was The Carpenters introducing Herb Alpert.

  • i thought he was 'cute' when he was the head of The TJB (i was bron in 55) - but when this song came out in 1971 (i was 16) - it was a whole different enchilada! Sexy man.

  • Classic. Burt Bacharach was an amazing composer.

  • this is one of the greatest songs of all time along with the girl from ipanema. it is a real shame it is never played on the radio so that the kids today can hear how a song should be written and sung.

  • Alpert, the A of A&M records

  • Great Song. My mom and dad used to play this album all the time on our stereo. To hear this song now flashes me back at least 40 years ago. I have goose bumps right now as to how clearly I can see them both enjoying this song. It's truely an amazing song. So simple, but so fine. Thank you for posting.

  • The song still gives me chills. Perfect example the class, sophistication of much of the 60s music. .He was a sexy dude on top of that.

  • karen carpenter and keith moon,my favo rite drummers Ross

  • thanks for sharing this, amazing

  • This song was a monster hit and played on every kind of radio station from easy listening to rock. A one of a kind sound.

  • Herb Albert is a treasure. His record lable was home to his own band but had another wonderful duo The Carpenters... This video has both and hearing this song is so fine... gives me goosebumps remembering... Thank you.

I love the Carpenters and I love Herb Albert... Go A&M Records...

  • This song was suppose to be sung by another guest on their show but canceled at the last minute due to illness so he subed in for her. After the show fans wanted this record but it wasn't available. He had to go into the studio and record it... went on to sell millions... :) Great song.

  • @SpursKitten, how can that be when it was released in 1968 by Herb Alpert and the Tijuana Brass and this show was aired in 1971?

  • I'm told I don't foget too much. In 1971, The Carpenters had a summer TV show and each week would sing to a different letter of the alphabet. I wish they would put them on DVD. If you have input on this Richard- we miss you both.

  • I love this song! check out my version of the Herb Alpert Classic y'all BTW I'm the biggest carpenters fan in the world!

  • If anybody would like to learn this song on piano i've just uploaded a tutorial for it. Such a lovely song I had to learn how to play it. Take a look if you would like learn it as well. Thanks

  • May 1968, heard this song in Vietnam. We were back from a very bad time in the jungle. Made us think of our loves back home. 43 years later - still the same effect. Thanks Herb. The most beautiful song ever made by a man about a woman he loves.

  • Back in my girlfriend days 1970's. Sadly I never married because of what happened in 1980's. But then wow, in my young teens, smotched with girlfriend Sally to this and and snogged, my friends were all courting in this days, when Herb was playing his music.

  • I wonder what Herb said when the program director told him that he'd have to sit on a giant H while singing.

  • Comment removed

  • @emidore I wonder what that giant H is made of. It seemed to support a grown man's weight. And I'm sure it wasn't suitable for anyone who's scared of height while performing.

  • @Jovitinha Could it be wood? A leftover from Sesame Street maybe? Herb is so much better looking than a muppet, don't you think? ;)

  • @emidore LOL. It does look like something from Sesame Street. I don't know how he managed to continue playing the trunpet, singing, and looking effortlessly seductive at the camera while sitting way up on that thing without a harness. The guy's a trooper.

  • @nakedBison69 Same ole same ole - still don't know why this person is so obsessed with Obama though - pretty weird. I mean, what does Obama have to do with Women being arrested at the Kotel for praying? To the un-initiated out there, this is the kind of mentality we have to deal with here in Israel. It is a shame what sometimes happens to religion - we see it in Islam with Taliban and in Judaism too. Hard to be sympathetic but one has to if only to pity those who hide in their darkness...

  • I love this... and for some reason it reminds me of the song off of Toy Story "You gotta friend in me.." ahah. don't ask, because I don't know why either..

  • You can tell he's miming, cos not even Herb can manage to play his trumpet AND sing at the same time!

  • Brilliant........ Nothing like a good tune..... Better then all the stuff you get today

  • i sing this song to my wife everytime i can after 28 years she is still my best friend and makes my life worth living everyday i look forward to waking up with her and dont care who knows its i love you maureen so much

  • wow that H holded him, if he slipped he would have sued

  • we lived the good music

  • I ♥ this song A LOT!!!!! But what I love the most is seeing K&R introducing Herb! TGILWY reminds me a bit of close to you by carpenters

  • I love Herb Alpert, great love song.

  • Wow...If I was there I'm sure I would have flung my man-panties at him.

  • this is very cool

  • Was that Karen Carpenter introducing? She was so great heh? I don't care about the lip sync - still one of the best romance songs of all time

  • @MrGhostwhowalks Yes that was Karen and her brother Richard. She was the picture of health back then. I still don't know where she got the idea that she was fat. It killed her. Such a shame what others say to us and we listen. She was a beautiful person. R.I.P. Karen

  • @MrGhostwhowalks Yes that was Karen Carpenter and her brother Richard. Herb had signed them up to do several contracts. He also wrote some songs for them. Sad how things happen. Karen was the picture of health back then. I still don't know where she got the idea that she was fat. She really wasn't but I know her mom could be overwhelming. That may have played a role in it. Hope this answers your question.

  • "thank you for your introduction, he-man. ill sing sitting on this big H in your honor."

  • Herb Alpert..fantastic jazz musician and sculptor. And he's still recording. Lovely, man.

  • This was on UK TV last night, happy memories of being a kid with Mum and Dad and brothers and sisters

  • Absolutely brilliant. They don;t make them like this any more. This is a first class song and singer.

  • Me and Mary Lou 1995!

  • i miss karen carpenter. what a beautiful voice. one of the best i've ever heard. RIP kc.did not know alpert gave the carpenter's their start.

  • @alexalot23 Yes he did. Herb was the "A" in A & M Records.

  • i ve heard this song before, i like it you know as you look up songs, and other songs come up, its great, i can spend hours on youtube I love youtube

  • Unfortunately I was born a year before this "Great" appearance by Herb................I wish I was a teenager during this "Wonderful" era in "Real" music.

  • It's the way most guys think until they finally come around and tell you they love you...
