Ahhh ... back in the day when you were building a project you'd head over to Radio Shack and buy they resistors, the box, etc. If they didnt' have it, go to Lafayette !
Today in Canada, it has been announced that all Radio Shacks are closing - bankrupt. A few years back, they changed the name to "The Source" and ever since, they have been losing customers.
I'm not the only one with fond memories of the RS annual catalog. I loved that thing and every year I got excited as the release date for the new catalog drew closer. However, as some may know, they did away with the paper catalog in favor of the website/online catalog. Damn near impossible to navigate, poorly designed search feature, and over all crappy design. IIRC, it got some award for most poorly designed site. When did they do away with the paper catalog anyway?
2002 was the last year for the Paper Catalog. They had one in 2003 but was never intended for customers just employee reference. Then the New Radioshack Web site premiered early 2004. (Also if you think it is a poor site you should be an employee. We use the same site to look up parts and cross reference items.)
It is Arthur Fiedler. I remember, back then, Radio Shack used him in several of their promos, I guess, to show off the great sound quality of their stereo systems. I think they also gave out promo record albums of the Boston Pops, under Fiedler's direction.
Arthur Fielder was host of the Boston Pops music show An Evening at Pops on PBS (produced by WGBH Boston) until his 1979 death when after that John Williams of Star Wars and Close Encounters music fame took over as host.
ah, that's his name.. been trying to recall his name since the talk of radio shack ads for their crappy stereos back then. (not like they've gotten any better. )
This store is charging you an arm and a leg, it's highway robbery in today's world of economic mashups.

It's kind of hard to believe that Radio Shack is still around.
