Well... I watched Johnnie Davis in the movie 'Mr. Chump' on TCM and I want to watch that movie again so bad cuz I'm starting to dig Johnnie, but I can't find shit on him except a few vids on youtube like this haha. Sucks. He was really funny and I love his voice and trumpet playingg.
The name of the band is not identified in the "Internet Movie Database" however, the mame of the film is "Garden Of The Moon" 1938 and I am unaware of where you may obtain a copy. It is not advertised on Amazon website.
I am NOT a movie musical lover or anything near it. But man, I love this number. From John Payne's larger than life charm and smoothness, to the balance of the comedic and the singing, and the orchestration. Top notch. I remember seeing this movie on TCM and this number just came out of nowhere and blew me away. I thought the movie also felt "later" than 1938.
I was channel surfing the other night and saw this performed. I did not know that Payne was a singer. I always enjoy watching him every Christmas in The Miracle on 34th Street. Thanks for uploading it!! It is very funny.

Fantastic band and performance. anyone who has this excellent movie to sell?
Here in Sweden we are not spoiled with such marvelous bands. Anyone knowing wich band there is in this clip? Perhaps CBS "house" orchestra?

Johnnie "Scat" Davis is the one to watch here. Anyone have him singing "Hooray For Hollywood" uploaded from Hollywood Hotel?
Just saw that on TCM as well.

I believe everything from "Hollywood Hotel" has been taken down, (copywrite) except the trailer.

Yes! Johnnie "Scat" Davis is absolutely amazing. What a character! And what a singer. Thanks for posting this.

I am pleased the clip elicited such favorable response. I have since added two more John Payne uploads from the same film.
