  • Uh let me clear this up oce and for all. SHE WANTED HIM, SHE WAS ALWAYS ATTRACTED TO HIM AND LET'S JUST SAY IT WAS BETWEEN THE TWO OF THEM WHAT HAPPENED. IT WASEN'T LIKE A "REAL" RAPE TRUST ME

  • Comment removed

  • @eartheneanneoQueen 95% of the time women brings it on thereselves..

  • @romans52345 actually, 99% they never bring it on themselves. Mainly because they didn't Want It In The First Place. Unless they say yes to the question of having sex or they'er into consensual rape fantasy fulfillment, they sure as hell don't want to have sex with anyone and don't want to be forced into it.

  • This is so implausible I keep waiting for a pig to fly by or something.

  • What the--she--how--HUH?! A woman being forced to talk about her rape by her rapist? Jesus, he might as well have been raping her all over again. Did the writers really feel it was necessary to send women's right's back to the Dark Ages?

  • The rape thing was a bit of a sick twist to the plot, but it sure as hell had millions of viewers captivated when this first aired in 1979, and the time leading up to their wedding.

  • It's funny how audiences rooted for these 2 as a couple. Today, I doubt they would have been so supportive.

  • in the real world this kind of thing wouldnt happen but in the soap operas anything can happen!! i think this particular storyline is what started the luke/laura saga!!! it may be weird and bizzare but still rape is rape no matter the means now how she fell in love with him....clueless

  • If a woman says no and the man doesn't listen, it's rape. Simple as that.

  • @lorireece1 when a woman says no it means try harder

  • This is an absurd scene.

  • Luke and Laura were always very complicated! However, since she lied from the beginning that she didn't know who raped her, the only other person who knew the truth, was Luke and maybe that's why she was able to talk to him because between them they shared this big horrible secret that they both felt ashamed of and they only had the other to confide in. Not the norm I know but it really did work well with Luke and Laura Their continued storyline over the last 30 odd years has been amazing!

  • How long after the rape did they become friends again?

  • lol epic plot

  • This story is femminst nightmare

  • Why aren't people upset the fact she MARRIED HER RAPIST!?

  • This storyline is really offensive.

If these two hacks were better actors, perhaps it would have been less awful, but...

  • I actually think that this is MORE realistic than most rape stories on TV. Most rape is by someone known to the victim, not some stranger in a van, and the parties have to deal with the fallout and they don't always involve the police (probably most times they don't)

  • I bet a lot of cocaine was involved in writing this story.

  • She must of liked it, had she not she would have sent him straight to jail or killed him. At the very least stay away from him and anything having to do with him.

  • @gozacomolia She didn't like it, but she liked him. How different it is to be attacked by someone you have feelings for. I don't think it's entirely unrealistic, you care about somebody and they hurt you, you try to deal with it, you hate what they did but you still love them. It could happen.

  • He should stop being a wussy, he got some sex from her, so what! Is that going to stop the planet from rotating around the sun? No!

  • I think most of you need to drop your woman's lib bibles and step back about 30 years into the past when this episode was written and aired. Most women watching this show were housewives. I'd be willing to bet most were lonely, horny, aging women who only wished they wouldn't have to beg for their husband's affection and instead be that young girl who's lusted after once more. Our standards of sexual rights have changed dramatically since the 70s & don't forget girls were much more virginal then

  • a lot of talk regarding the implications of the subsequent relationship between L&L after the rape. . .I admit that the story writing is a bit irresponsible, but we can see that they are two young idiots who were in fact already very much attracted to and possibly "in love" with each other. It's easy to point the finger at the big, bad rapist, who was a pimp btw; but let's look at Snow White here who was warned a number of times to leave even by the rapist. The whole thing is utterly ridiculous.

  • Who talks about their rape with their rapist ? Even GH would say today that this storyline is dated and utterly ridiculous.

  • A woman who falls in love with their rapist would be an extreme rarity. Soaps do not reflect reality. Rape is not an unfortunate incident or a misunderstanding. When you shove something inside a person's body with great force, it's a violent act. I know someone who had to have surgery because of a rape. Frankly, the penalties should be harsher because of the irreparable damage they inflict. It can destroy lives and drive victims to suicide. Stacey - I urge you to read up on it.

  • @450creek I guess GH found a way to paint their romance as endearing and it works but if this were to happen in real life I would just think it was some kind psychological result of the trauma in the victim's mind....like just not ok or normal at all. It kind of makes me think of statutory rape or pedophilia and the way victims sometimes feel that they are truly in love with the person.

  • miserable lives are not excuse for raping. since when controll a women makes someone stronger? only if that man is naturaly a weak fag, and not someone who had a miserable life. A decent person with a miserable life usually wants to die, not to rape a women.

  • most people are raped by people they know, does that mean it's their fault? wtf? and don't they get married or something? wtff? why would you marry your rapist?

  • Actually, there have been real life cases where the victim has fallen in love, and yes even married their rapist. I saw a sho w on T.V about it, so it can happen, especially if the rapist feels remorseful.

  • Stacey - your line of thinking is disturbing. Rapists are disturbed people but only another mentally ill person with issues of their own would "fall in love" with their rapist. "I saw it on TV"? Oh well that's proof positive. Take some psych courses from a reputable college to understand abusers and their victims.

  • As I said before, disturbing, but truth.... life is not all black and white, good or bad, it does have some gray areas, and redeeming qualities in even the worst of people and yes, I did see it on a documenntary on PBS, so it can happen.

  • exactly, "fall in love".u are right. i may be narrow minded, but i dont get how daytime tv can show that like this, almost like an example, like oh they gonna work for 20 years, such a great marriage.

yes it is known really unhealthy(but some people dont know it, and they watch the show like if it was a detail, a normal storyline)..Doesn't make sense, a marriage like this would work for 10 per cent of unhealthy couples like this..upsets me.

  • This is the freakiest 1981 disco shit

  • This is so weird.

  • These two were magic==Then and Now!!!

  • why would a woman talk about her rape with HER RAPIST?!!!!!

  • Exactly,very very strange storyline.

  • You right and she would never work for him eaither

  • This show was written for women.

    They are insane.

  • @zpalvr 1: it's TV. 2: she loves him... he raped her but they have feelings for one another. What happened wasn't as serious as everyone today makes it out to be. It wasn't then when the show aired. Take away the relationship between them and it's a totally different situation.

  • @BreezesofConey i don't expect realism in my soap operas but rape is serious. and who gives a shit if she loves him? that's like saying date rape is ok because the people know each other.

  • @zpalvr The whole SL was bizarre

  • @zpalvr The dude had a bad day, got drunk and made a horrible mistake. He's only human and she's an attractive woman, it happens to the best of us. It's not like he's a serial rapist or a pervert/pedophile...

  • @Maloperverso HE RAPE A GIRL

  • @Maloperverso It happens to "the best of you"? What the heck?! I don't think I want to know what the WORST of you are like then...

  • they made it a 'seduction'?

well what kind of message are they sending the audience who watched the rape scene ... that what happened was ok?

    ..seems wrong to me

  • This stuff made me so mad at the time...I couldn't STAND Luke and always wanted Scotty to bash his face in . The Punch that knocked Luke overboard wasn't enough...and then to make matters worse, they made SCOTTY the bad guy after that! It was such rediculous nonsense, but very high drama for us at the time! GH was the best and the cheesiest...but OLTL and AMC were pretty decent too.

  • Hey I used to love OLTL too, but don't dog GH because it was great in it's day...now not so much just like all soaps.

  • GH fans are so easily pleased. This script sucks, the storyline sucks. I'm sure L&L were great but GH today is even more ridiculous. I just can't get into it. I'm OLTL forever!

  • It was the 70's and these actors were young and relatively inexperienced then. LOL For goodness sake, DISCO was in.. How lame can that be!!

  • how long after the rape is this???

  • TG was brought to GH and was only supposed to be on for a few months. Bobby brought him to town to try to break up Laura and Scotty.

Even after the rape, the L&L phenomenon began and the writers at GH had to do a lot of back pedaling.

What was a rape became a seduction. Genie's character was attracted to Luke from the beginning, but was married to Scotty.

They became a national obsession, and history was re-written.

  • she is talking to her RAPIST about the night he RAPED her?? this is really weird..

  • This show and most every other Soap is created From a Womans point of view.

Thats why it's so scary. They embrace and dream about shit like this.. have fantasies about it.. why do you think most women like bad boys or assholes.. it genetic.

  • @Faelsun Is that so? I'm a woman and I NEVER dreamed of being brutalized. What a ridiculous thought! Please tread back into your cave and keep take your ignorance with you.

  • Sure you haven't , look rape fantasies in women are well documented in psychology and Social sciences. The question isn't IF it's WHY. So of course feminism come along to make women think their natural tendencies are wrong, making them unhappy shells living miserable home lives, reading shitty romance novels and fantasizing about rape. God knows what goes on in the female mind.

  • @Faelsun You're so very right. Before feminism chastity was the most important womanly virtue so it makes sense that subconsciously wanting to be had against her will (because it was impure to ask for it to happen) was common. It was a sexual fantasy. Put a whore in every modern, liberated, female who is told she has to be a slut to be normal and everything of that past woman is lost. I've known many women who liked the fantasy, it's a matter of power and control.

  • @Kristismom8 Laura wasn't "brutalized" she was fucked by a guy she had feelings and sympathy for. He didn't hit her, she didn't kick and scream.

  • @Faelsun ...LOL ..wow you really believe your own bullshit....wow penis that tiny is it? u all upset, hating on the girls, lashing out about things about what women want etc..and women do not like badboys or assholes.just because you were lucky enough to trap or rape a few does not make it so..wow, your ignorance amazes me...if I didn't know better, I'd think you were a monkey from the lab. you are SAD SAD SAD SAD ...fuck you are so stupid..LOL LOL LOL LOL LOL

  • @onecharmedmcleod Yeah the entire concept of this story line is just so bizarre

  • @onecharmedmcleod She marry said rapist

  • OK, I don't remember this one. Is this after the rape seen? Why is she being so nice to him after that?OK, I am confuse with this one? She seems like everything is all ok and being nice to him.someone enlighten me on this seen. thanks

  • It's a soap opera. Nothing makes sense in soap operas. He raped her. And she goes to him and CONFIDES in him. She's trying to PROTECT him so nobody will know it was him who raped her. He raped her...and she's mad at her MOTHER! Totally insane.

  • When the character of Luke was brought on the show he was intended to be the bad boy trouble maker. He was not intended to be a love interest for Laura. But the audience saw them as a potential couple and liked the chemistry between them. By time the writers decided to make them a couple the rape had already happened and the writers made an attempt to rewrite the history of the couple as a seduction instead of a rape. But you know it's a TV show and not real and I still love Luke and Laura

  • It was no seduction, although later on it was suggested that it was. But that was ludicrous. It was a rape. Years later, Luke agonizingly tells his son about how he raped his mother Laura many years ago.

  • It is true that most girls get raped by men they know, and it is really disturbing when you think about it.

  • Well, it is disturbing, but not surprising. As I stated in my other post, I am not condoning the act, but rapist are human beings, who raped beacuse they felt powerless in their life in one way or another, and when a person feels powerless and angry, they sadly take it out on a person they know, and also a person they know they can take by surprise and feel powerful against.

  • why would a woman marry her rapist?

  • I admit it is something I never could understand until Lucky confronted his mother about it. But hey, they are a supercouple and I love them.

  • This is a soap opera. I think that's the only place where a woman would fall madly in love with her rapist and later marry him.

  • he raped her?

  • yep he sure did and she forgave him.

  • he should wear glasses more he looks funny

  • Notice he never wore glasses again. Chemistry is so great with them. She was so grown up for her age. and to think 25 yrs later we still see it in them. Thanx.

  • I think people forget that Luke encouraged Laura to get help and accepted responsibility - he's a landmark character, too, for accepting he caused her pain. Not many rapists are willing to do that.

  • Not Any rapist's are willing to do that. They saw what was going on with these two and rectified it. didn't erase it but made it easier to bare~ with Sailboat Seduction and Day of Recogning.

  • I agree, I am not sticking up for rapist nor condoning the act.... but people forget that rapist are humans with screwed up lives too... They felt powerless in their own lives and decided to "take that power back" my making themselves feel powerful. For some of these people, we should not be lynhing them... specially if they already feel guilt for what they did, they should be asked why they did it, and get psychiatric help.

  • You hit it right on the head, thats exactly how Luke was feeling at the time. The fact that he felt so awful afterwards showed that at least he felt some remorse and deserved some compassion. Those two definitely changed the rape stereotype, maybe for the better, maybe not. I loved how the writers and actors handled this - brilliant work by GF and TG.

  • Luke looks funny with glasses.

  • yeah he reminds me of Napolion Dynamite! lol
