  • this is probably a stupid question, but in the real ending when you rewind all the way, did you notice the ladders? and if so why are they there?

  • @buggyiscool well, at least i wasnt too lazy to play til the normal ending myself. but how the fuck am i supposed to know bout this alternate ending

  • that is a wtf boom

  • when you play this game, you dont tend to notice that everything is rewinding...

  • ok for people questioning the glowing levers, this only happens when u get the other 7 stars( which are a bitch to find)

  • -from what I can see, the game has been edited, allowing the switches to glow and not be affected by time, and also by placing extra blocks of scenery to the right of the chandelier.

  • @zastavia

Or maybe you should just get all 7 stars, then see the difference.

  • @zastavia If by edited you mean they got 7 of the 8 stars and that affected the final level then yes.

  • @zastavia make sure you have 7 stars buddy, then it will work

  • Slight problem here. The canon switch on my xbox360 version does not glow, therefore when I rewind time, it re-sets like everything else. It simply doesn't work. So how exactly did you get that switch to glow???

  • Well, an ending like that isn't exactly open to interpretation.

  • even before i finished the game I thought it was A Bomb!

I was woah! @ her blowing UP o.0

Johnathan Blow made best Mario successor ever!

  • Finally. Thanks to everyone at cracked and you Youtube guys. I finally get it.

The monster that took the princess was himself. He was trying to save the princess from himself by going back in time.

  • @tik999 He was never trying to save her... ever.

  • So uh.. did he destroy the nuke before America got to use it or what?

  • @hl2og no he is supposed to be the scientists that regretted ever making the bomb he is supposed to be the actual monster alluded to in the opening

  • stupid question. Is this recorded from your xbox or something?

  • @Eragarev nope this is the computer version, used fraps (a screen capture made for games)

  • @buggyiscool Geeze, then why is my PC version of such low quality?

  • Hey guys, did you notice that in this alternate ending, there is an extra door (locked) right next to the red one. Where does that door take you and where is the key? I noticed that in the regular ending, there is NO LOCKED DOOR! So that must be an extra feature of the real ending!

  • @chesita maybe that is the idea. the door is LOCKED. it is a path he could have gone down but he cannot anymore. and though he sees the door, he cannot go beyond it after what he did

  • @rubberduckey111 but what if you didnt collect the 8th star after you catch the princess... are we sure that there isnt a key hidden somewhere to open that door? it doesnt make sense that it is not to be open!

  • The constelation is andromeda,in mithology she would be sacrificed to the kraken to protect her people before perseus slained the creature and saved her. can you make any sense of it in the game ?

  • @bladerj Yes. Using the atomic bomb (Andromeda) against the japoneses (kraken) to save the world (her people). Or maybe not.

  • what I was supposed to be accomplishing by playing it. Jonathan Blow, you have a great idea here, now explain it to us, or at least let us experience the entire thing without torturing ourselves.

  • The sad thing is, including a secret ending in a game that you have to go through an insane amount of challenges to get is kind of pointless since once one person puts it on Youtube everyone else can watch it without actually playing the game and fulfilling the requirements. I played this game, got the regular ending, got one star, then gave up because that one star took 4 hours to get because of that stupid slowly moving cloud. And I still do not know what anything in this game means or...

  • She just....Exploded O_O

  • @caturday456 It is a reference to the Manhattan Project; the one were Albert Einstein and a bunch of other scientists created the atomic bomb. When you think about it, the entire thing can be a metaphor for that, or simply just a way to describe how much of a catastrophic disaster their relationship was. However, there were actually 2 direct quotes from workers of the Manhattan project, and the whole story makes sense as the princess being life/bomb and Tim being a scientist/death.Think about it

  • The Princess he fought so hard to find, he had found long ago. She was the death of countless lives and the fear of generations past and future. The guilt was unbearable; he buried her memory in mental obstacles. Until one day, he stumbled on one of these traps. Working backwards, he began to understand what her true nature was; why he hid the memory.

However, the puzzle was a farce, the solution merely paint over the scratch. A distraction from the fires of his greatest mistake; the Atom Bomb.

  • is there a reason for this? like why she blew up

  • You, know, you could look up at the constellation and see it without the stars.

  • That's the Andromeda constellation... therefore the chains.

  • Cracked :p

  • How anyone found this out is beyond me. What an awsomely confusing, frustrating, challenging, exhilaratingly deep, well thought out masterpiece of gaming. I even went and bought the soundtrack!

  • If the star rating system was still here I'd give this video 8/8 stars :) this game is awesome!

  • the constalation is his wife

  • [YOU CANNOT CHANGE THE PAST]

  • can you upload your save game, pls!

  • Who the heck is Cracked?

  • @Louchan2 The website that people got here from because they don't know how to regularly browse YouTube, apparently. :P

  • @MysterySC09

Actually, is because that site told them about the secret ending and linked to the video. It's not like everybody will search for "[random game name] secret ending" on google without knowing THERE IS a secret ending =P

  • @HLFredusko ...People don't browse Cracked normally!? How strange my friends and I must be to actually like Cracked enough to read the articles without having to Google the topic. There is also the fact that Google WILL give you a 'secret ending' result even if you don't directly search for it. That actually sounds backwards, now that I think about it: How many people knew there was a secret ending *without* finding it online?

Either way, my original comment still stands. :P

  • @MysterySC09

No, I guess you misunderstood what I said. What I said is that people were not looking for the secret ending, did not know it existed, and played the whole game not knowing it had a secret ending at all. One day, Cracked published an article about secret game endings, they read it, knew from it that braid had one of those, and followed the link. There is nothing weird about it, don't know why it's bothering you so much =P

  • @HLFredusko Actually, I think this is bothering you and you're projecting that on to me. You responded to a joking post I made with an obvious response. A lot of people who read Cracked found out about a game they hadn't played, then looked at this video to see if it's worth it.

  • @HLFredusko The problem with your argument is that you can find this out from a simple Google search if you've played the game by looking up the constellation (or really, anything), which these people didn't do because they didn't think of it (making my idea that most of them haven't played the game more likely). My joke was that there are an alarming amount of people who don't look things up without being linked by a funny article, which is what I was commenting on in my joke. Make sense?

  • the flames are actually the showckwave of the nuclear blast, leaving a destroyed level.

  • Thank you game. I don't even play you and I will forever have nightmares.

  • was brought here by cracked

  • o_______o

  • awesome

  • that's mama luigi to you, mario!

  • now that's disturbing D:

  • *NUCLEAR EXPLOSION*

    Tim: ...I'm good.

  • That's seriously screwed up...

  • Now we're all sons of bitches.

  • @GenoAwesome How come you know my mom?

  • I had always heard people say Braid was a bit pretentious, but just viewing this has made me more of a douchebag

  • creepy...

  • Braid is about regret, and moving on from regret. Sometimes we do things we really wish we didn't. Maybe its a relationship. Maybe its a project we're so engrossed in we forget about the social ramifications. In Braid the creation of the atomic bomb is compared to that of a failed relationship. Tim tries to grab on to what he can't have-be it love or knowledge-and ends up losing something dear to him as a result. And in post modern style, the game is about him ruminating through the pieces.

  • @Judex777

    Also: obsession.

  • Cracked.com brought you here. I know this because I'm psychic.

  • @Sianmav yup

  • @Sianmav Wrong

  • this game is wierd

  • So it IS about the nuke... Blow, you freaking lied to us!

  • The fuck, cracked has furiously mind raped me D:

  • Excuse me while I pick up the scattered, bloody pieces of my brain that have just exploded across the room after realising this secret.

  • cracked is awesome

  • scary as hell...

  • cracked!

  • Thankyou Cracked :)

  • @buggyiscool its an website that has interesting articles. and your video is happened to be in a link they gave. and people who said "cracked" meant that it was Cracked.com that led them here.

  • @buggyiscool cracked.com a site with interesting articles to read :) at least for me.. check it out..

  • @buggyiscool Cracked.com is a humor website. There's an article about the scariest Easter Eggs hidden in video games with a link to this video. That's why you are getting a lot of views right now. ww.cracked.com/article_19172_8-creepy-video-game-urban-legends-that-happen-to-be-true_p2.html?utm_source=facebook&utm_medium=fanpage&utm_campaign=new+article&wa_ibsrc=fanpage

  • lol cracked

  • @buggyiscool cracked.com, fool

  • makes sense then that the city is on fire in the main menu.

  • @buggyiscool

Cracked is a comedy website. Your video was featured there as part of an article discussing the urban legends surrounding videogames.

  • The guy at Cracked sent me.

  • linked from cracked! Nobody cares that you don't care!

  • I'm gald I read that craked article.

  • First of all: Nobody cares that you got linked here from Cracked.

Second of all: This is amazing. I'd actually come to the atom-bomb conclusion due to the normal ending and the quote. I didn't know this easter egg existed. It's almost like they said "Hey, think our point was too subtle? Maybe we can make it glaringly obvious in an alternate ending :P"

  • Hm...That Constellation is Andromeda...how does this have to do with the bombs?

  • @aeronfox now try to turn back time at the credits screen ;)

  • I was brought here by Cracked lol

  • @ArmyOfOne313 lol. so was i!

  • No, *I* was brought here by Cracked... lol.

  • what shape is the constellation in, at the end??

  • @SahjanS That's the constellation Andromeda, named after a princess from Greek mythology who was chained to a rock to be sacrificed to a monster, as punishment for her mother's sins. She was saved from death by Perseus, a hero and founder of the Mycenaean civilization.

  • So damn creepy

  • I heard this was one of the theories but I never believed it until now. Thanks to cracked I've been set straight

  • be-be-beep .....WHAT THE FU-- BOOOOM!!!!

  • If you look up to the constellation the stars disappear

  • the main character is the bad guy

  • My brain exploded by this game. I was proud to complete it, but this was one of the weirdest experiences ever...

  • when you come there for a second time, when rewinding back with normal ending, mona lisa having a beard and moustache (if you look closer) and last 2 levers having stairs. (3:13) i dont know if we have something to do with them.

  • What a mindfuck.

  • how come my levers are not time resistant?

  • @thelastclone You need to collect all the stars first.

  • this game blew my fucking mind in the same way that the movie memento did. there need to be more games with excellent, ambiguous plots like this, instead of dumb plots that piece everything together for you.

  • This game is fucking confusing... but it makes you think and gives a beautiful, slightly depressing atmosphere.. you should try the game Aether on newgrounds it gives me kindof the same feel :P

  • It's not about atomic bomb

  • You know, the vanilla version of last level was actually clever

Then they had to ruin it with the most retarded and overused metaphor in any form of storytelling.

  • Is there a way to view the alternate ending again after collecting all 8 stars? Besides starting over that is.

  • She exploded because Tim destroyed her. She was running away from Tim and when he caught up with her, that, in turn, destroyed her.

  • thanks for the vid, but the I thought the alt end was kinda dumb.

  • thanks for 20,000 views and awesome comments and opinions :)

  • My description of this ending: And them some of the switches become timeproof. So you can get to the chandelier sooner, and actually rescue the princess.

    And that's when she explodes.

  • oh

    I don't understand,What happened with a princess???

    and WTF occurred explosion?

  • one of the most sadistically cruel twists in any game every. Fucking amazing.

  • There isn't only a Manhattan project quote, there are lines about ethics, animal research and chocolate. The game seems more about humanity's furious but shortsighted drive for progress in general than only about the atom bomb. I saw Tim as humanity and the Princess as mother Earth--hence the lines about Tim's mother holding him back from all of the things that he wants to understand and have (in the candy store's window), of which the atom bomb was the worst, but not the only.

  • the princes has an extreme seizure before she explodes

  • yo dude. is that ending for real?

  • i love that everyone's really talkative about this game, its great...but holy shit! its not the bible people haha shes a bomb, she goes boom, end of story

  • @buggyiscool That's only the space-time continuum kerploding. At least if she WERE a bomb, ONLY TIM is killed (and, maybe, a small chunk of London depending on the yield of the Princess). Now, because he didn't stick to the script the Fates gave him, everything in the universe is dead.

Good video, by the way. I only came here because I accidentally pulled a green lever again before f***ing Time over. I couldn't go to where the Knight was. I wanted to see if there was anything.

    Thanks. Liked.

  • @buggyiscool LOOL. that's incredibly creepy, though.

  • The reason why touching the princess makes an explosion? THAT'S YOU MESSING UP THE FABRIC OF TIME. If you notice, it turns out everything is going backwards, and if you rewind, you'll release that the princess was actually running from you, and she was actually turning on the traps in real time. By capturing her though, you end up causing a paradox.

  • @TheKirbyLord

mmm...i think the Atomic bomb theory makes more sense, especially after reading the quote made by Kenneth Bainbridge (He was the director of the Trinity test of the manhattan project..remember that manhattan is mentioned in the game) after the detonation of the first atomic bomb "Now we are all sons of bitches"

thats why she explodes, cuz she is the atomic bomb and tim is a scientist

  • @sascachuhuan Except that the guy who created the entire game syas it's NOT about the atomic bomb and he flat-out scoffs at that interpretation simply saying that people who believe it "Missed clues, and didn't get it."

  • @17thknight dont take this offensively but every review and breakdown of this game says the princess is tim's work toward the atom bomb (it has quotes about the manhattan project) and if its not about a nuke..then why does she explode?

  • @buggyiscool A lot of people say that, but just because of a single quote in the game "We're all bastards now". The simple explanation for why she explodes is that he destroyed the "time-space" continuum by touching her when that's not what actually happened.

Keep in mind, during the part where you CAN touch her, everything is going in reverse. So you're essentially reliving previous events. It's impossible for him to "change" what happened, and in doing so, she explodes.

  • @17thknight

    do take this offensively.

The guy who created the game doesn't scoff at any interpretation, nor has he ever confirmed or denied any possible interpretations. What he actually says (and this is a quote) is that he left the game "very open to interpretation". If he purposely left it open to people's interpretations then why would he "flat-out scoff" at anyone's take on it?

Please don't pretend to know something you really know nothing about.

  • Just to save anyone else the trouble, you can't jump on the chandelier unless you have the stars on the go. The second claw-plant keeps you back and you don't have time to get over to the chandelier.

  • Man, this game... it's THE BOMB! Hahaha.

  • But there simply HAS to be something more to that constellation, something intrumental perhaps, something left to discover, something SOMETHING that could undo yourmisfortunes with the princess and deliver her back into your arms once more! I mean damn it this is supposed to end wéll or not at all is it? The love history I mean. So what is it!!!?

  • Do want to know what the ending of Braid really means? Nothing just the developer thinking it would be funny to screw with everyone's head.

  • The constellation at the end is Andromeda, the Chained Woman. She was chained to a rock as an offering to the Leviathan, to appease Poseidon, and was rescued by Perseus.

  • what i didn't get was the fire when the guy stomped on the ground, was that like, the fabric of space exploding from too much time traveling?

  • @Emeexuqu i see that as a bit of a rationalization on tim's part to justify the forward going for the princess, because normally when you rewind it to see the truth the fire isnt there

  • great vid! great quality too, unlike most braid vids out there ^_^

  • i like the effect around the princess right before she explodes...i wonder what it means

  • All that effort collecting stars and they might at least have given us a sex scene. >:-I

  • the story behind this game freaked me up forever O_O

  • when you run back the last level after completing it the normal way there's a ladder going up that wan't there before attached to the platform before the long staircase. Does anyone know if this can be use at all?

  • Can anyone explain why the Princess jitters around the screen and makes a night-vision goggle sound effect before exploding?

  • ending is the weirdest ending iv ever seen

  • the reason why she exploded was:

if he had jumped down the chandelier, he would have come from her bedroom, possibly meaning that they had been together

if he stands on the cliff peeping in through her window, he is a psyco living in a dream world

which one is the true ending?

  • I guess the Japs caught her too eh?

  • i wanna blow up a princess now :D

  • You don't actually need to rewind from the end near the last two plants. I read just enough of a star-walkthrough to find out where to find them but not how to (OMG some of those stars...) and I didn't rewind in the last area except during the first switch so I could rewind and "skip" going up the ladder. Otherwise they say it's an alternate ending...didn't see much "alteration" and more removal...would have almost preferred it if the normal ending was the secret one...

  • Nice one dude just completed it myself (without the stars) and i thought it may have something to do about the A-bomb cos of manhattan on fire and the WW2 poster in one of the jigsaws, and ofc the numerous quotes from people who helped make the A-bomb, im glad to think i ent the only one

  • Dude...ive watched this entire playthrough all day, watched this, and read the meaning, and my fucking brain hurts....seriously.

  • @seraphdenex

    get a life and go out side and get sum sun {FATTY}

  • @cownija Well, when something is as mentally stimulating as this, makes you think as much as this game does, its hard to stop watching until the very end.

  • @seraphdenex mee 2

  • sooooooo... do the stars open up some sorta secret door or sumpthin??

  • question? I beat the game, and wanted to go back and redo the last stage, but the green levers are gone, does that mean I have to restart the game?

  • you need the rest of the stars to get the green levers

  • Sorry, but why the hell I hadn't have this GREEN levers but have a usual ones, so I just can't got alternate ending? PLS HELP!!!

  • you need to get all 8 hidden stars

  • Actually, you need to get 7 stars. After you get the 8th, you won't have the green levers anymore.

  • not 8, just 7

the last one is not necessary

  • @buggyiscool Wrong, you need the 7 hidden stars besides the one in World 1.

  • Actually, I just did this, and that's not exactly true. Getting eight stars is the same as having NO stars in regards to the time-proof (green) levers. The game checks if you have SEVEN stars. (Having all of them prior to being here); if you do, the levers are green. Else, they're normal. This also means that the moment you get the star in the Princess' room, you can never do this again, unless you erase your save file.

Although, that reply is 10 months old, so I'm probably on the late train.

  • So... she had c4 on her... Devious bitch

  • so he came home angry, smashed the ground and the chandellier fell on his wife and killed her? :(

  • its about a the atom bomb actually

  • @mackdallas No, if you pay very close attention, you'll notice that the levels are REVERSED. And at the end (more appropriately the beginning), you go into Rewind and it shows the whole story where Tim is chasing after the princess and she's trying to get away by dropping chandeliers on him, trying to catch him in traps, until the brave knight comes and rescues her from that sick sadistic man (He was ripping rat brains to shreds and depriving monkeys of water to find her).

  • and in the eyes of the jackal

    ...

    She went KAAAAAAAAAA-BOOOOOOOOOOM!

  • super

  • ...she blows up!!!

  • WTF

  • I never would have beat this game w/o youtube.

  • Thanks A Lot!

  • Wow. That story is much deeper then I could've possibly imagined

  • I love this game's storyline. It definitely wins best storyline of the year 2009 (for me that is) surprisingly right before new years :)

  • Dude, do you realize what your obsession on finding all 8 stars and reaching the princess made you do?? you just destroyed the whole humankind... are you happy now? ; )

  • it was worth the hours i spent trying to get them lol

  • @buggyiscool what about you and star in world 1, did you do your mistake of life and solved the puzzle or you saw it directly? :P

  • @StreeeCZ um not sure what youre asking but i think i solved it first then restarted after i saw a video on it

  • @buggyiscool But don't you see? In your hours long quest for all the stars you mirrored Tim's obsession for the princess. You've done a terrible thing.
