most tonsillectomies don't use "wire loops" (tonsil snares) anymore, unless the doc's old school. electrocautery (ESU) is the way to go--minimal bleeding, no suturing required, and fast.

also, most excised tonsils don't get to go home with the patient--they go to the lab. :)

@NotpoC i hurt from the moment i woke up and then for the next month! i was only 4 or 5 at the time, it was the worst pain i ever in my life experienced. not only did my throat hurt, but my ears did to.

@NotpoC No ice cream, just sherbert and Popsicles. Ice cream produces phlegm and, when you get your tonsils out, you don't want to be coughing up anything.

I swear I just saw a video where a child no older than 7, had his tonsils removed while awake with no anesthetic. They tied him to a chair covered his eyes and removed the tonsils. It looked incredibly painful and I felt sorry for the kid.

i think you have tonsils for a reason if they are inflamed they are working hard at their job.

I went in to get my tonsils out on Monday of last week, I was fine the pain was mild and by Saturday I was fine moving around and not a care in the world late saturday afternoon I feel blood in my mouth I was getting worried as it had been bleeding for 2 full minutes I rushed to the hospital and was continuously throwing up blood, They rushed me into emergency surgery and I lost 2.3 litres of blood and I cant stand properly without wobbling I am really sick and recovering.

ull be ok just you will throw up alot and you will be in pain you will be fine take the pain meds they give you try to drink some instant breakfast for your meals with jello and stuff like that youll be eating regular stuff in less than a week and if your lucky you get to keep the diseased bastards in a jar like i got too
