@someoddballfreak you might wanna check out the off grid movement here in the uk before falsely labeling it right wing libertarian as most dick heads here would label it left wing airy fairy liberal wishy wash xx
@gorillafilmmakernow Oh, ok. It's just that Charlie Veitch seems to be spending a lot of time with people you work with so I kinda thought you shared his recently accquired, extreme, Ayn Rand kill the poor, viewpoints. You know the old saying, people are judged by the company they keep etc
TVNZ did a Brilliant series on this called 'Off the Radar' with a presenter called Te Radar (yes thats his real name) might be persuaded to share a copy...
Living with the earth is a beautiful concept. And should always be the ultimate goal. But to try and convince revolutionaries try to save the world to take off into the woods, is horrible. Because this machine will eventually show its face once again no matter how off the grid you are. Our main priority should be to stop this machine from consuming the living world. Then after that, join the earth once again. Most other options are based on false hope.
Can't fucking believe I missed this , I am trying to set up my own Eco village and have seen all Nick's stuff, I was actually at finsbury when this was going on, DOH ! I hope charlie or someone filmed the whole talk!
@DCHTID247 may I ask where you might be setting up your village? I'm looking for people with whom to buy some land in the UK and start growing our own food. Maybe we can share some info, peace x
@smurfieboo - Well I was in talks with people in Wales about purchasing land, but I understand there is quite a few eco villages outside of wales as well , so im now looking into land nearer to home, I live in hertfordshire, I am starting a file of people who also up for splitting the cost, i have so far got a lot of people that are prepared to do it, but none with any money, I have some money? are you on facebook?
@smurfieboo - I was in talks with a guy in wales who was selling 3 acres of land for £12,000 , my target to go of grid is November 10th 2012, If I have not got it finalised by then I am gonna join another villiage in herefordshire until I find my own ? I would like to save money for, a round house, kinetic energy and solar panels ?
We can all point out failings but can we highlight successes. No one can be completely off grid unless your an untouched amazonian tribe the reaches of the system will always be there. So rather than dwell on what there not doing why not help out with what they can do.
The occupy movement is not off grid because it is funded by donations from people who live on the grid! The occupy movement is far from self sufficient as it is dependant on the system, i.e. all the food used there is donated by people who live within the system.
If everyone gave up their TV I am sure sooner or later there would be many people making new friends and creating their own entertainment too.. with lots of people interacting with each other I guess that too would be a "creative" moment where new ideas and solutions’ would be born.
@DumpYourTelevision many things we use to bring about the change will be useless once the shift has happened, i plan on making furniture what floats your boat outside of tv and youtube
Thats great, I have been yapping to a few strangers in the real world, and they say that they no longer use TV.
I can bake bread, with cultivating my own yeast so I can make sourdough bread, and I can now also brew my own beer and wine. I hope sometime to try growing some wheat and grinding it myself to see if I can do it that way, I will also be trying an earth oven to bake the stuff.. not sure when that will happen, but I am gathering info along my way :o)
@gorillafilmmakernow so very true! I think the main reason that prevents people from making a change is they don't know how they would contribute to a post-shift world, given we have given away our needs to supermarkets, companies, etc when what we need to do is take back our needs. So few of us grew up in an environment in which we learnt how to be self sufficient so we find the idea of relying on ourselves and more importantly, each other, as very daunting.
