  • true in the states gypsy has become a generic term and these people aren't necessarily racist, but it doesn't change the fact that it's a racist slur. when i meet people and tell them im roma, i need to clarify that i'm gypsy because they have no idea that we are actually a NATION and not wacky tacky scalliwags who play violin and steal shit, moving around randomly. There are over 1mil. Roma in the US so im sure you must have met em' at some point but thought they're mexican, or indian, whatever

  • ok so basically you don't have a drop of roma blood in you and your wife has only a hint of roma heritage, no disrespect, but it's fucked up for us everywhere and this kind of shit just gives the wrong impression. i dont get offended by the word gypsy to be honest but man, roma are the most dispised ethnic group in the world, and quite openly as well. I'm not attacking your opinion, it's just that like blacks we need to get derogatory terms out of public circulation. u know what i mean?

  • The girls look great!

  • They're not gypsy thought...

  • This is cool, better than cookie-cutter boring styles.

  • The Roma people originated from Punjab India buddy. Books are good to read if you want to learn stuff.

  • Roma?what Roma people?Gypsies not Roma.

  • they don't look gypsy to me

  • Im a real gypsy . and i know they aint gypsy. you wanna see real gypsys go to my name and look at my friends list

  • Question:

Is there a RACIAL difference between Gypsies and(for example) regular white people.

I see none. I just see a cultural difference.

  • There's a racial and cultural difference.

I believe the term "Gypsie" is derived form the word "Egyption."

So Gypsie=Egyption. Somewhere along the line. xD

  • You're right about the word "Gypsy", but they're actually from India originally. And they are genetically differetn from Europeans.

  • Thanks for clearing that up. I keep hearing so many differnet things about where they originally came from. :)

  • No problem :) And you can definitely trust what I wrote, since I'm writing a whole essay on them right now, so I've read a bunch of books about them, their origins, way of life, etc. etc.

  • Not by much though. Indians and Europeans are quite closely connected genetically. Not to mention mixed marriages between Roma and non Roma, which are not as stigmatised as they once were.

  • Oh, all people are quite closely connected genetically. A friend of mine said that any 2 randomly chosen white and black people will be as genetically similar as 2 white or 2 black people. Genetic differences are skin deep.

As to the stigma - I thought it was still pretty strong on the whole, but it probably differs individually.

  • It differs from country to country in Europe, and by the fact that there are numerous non Roma with Roma ancestry I'd say that bit by bit the stigma is going away in parts of Europe.

  • if you want to see real gypsy go see gypsy weddings thier far from junk so all the junk people can kiss their ass
