  • This is the ONE thing I get scolded most for. In fact, I hit it fat or thin whenever I (unintentionally) turn my head before impact. I wanna know more!!!

  • Just three days ago I watched your video and I can't believe the results that

I have seen in my swing and a accuracy. If anyone out there has not tried this concept

yet you really need to give it a shot.

    Thanks Ron

  • del Barrio! Where are you brother... Its your mexican pal... who use to pick up your balls... that doesn't sound right! Anyway hope all is well and was thinking about you the other day!

    benbray10@mac.com

  • Hi Ron, I know you are right. The chin is the reflectionpoint of the hips. So without turning the chin a body can not release the hips in any way. Eather you walk or play sports. Its so wonderful to see your teaching. I share this to everybody. I play on the european senior tour and a lot of older guys play this way. Its very simple and easy. Thanks again Ron

    Cheers, Rob from Holland

  • Whatever one thinks of Ron's method, I've known Ron maybe 30 Years, he has one best swings ever that includes his old swing, go visit him at Studio City, Los Angeles, I had to chuckle at some of the comments, some teacher laughing at Ron:) he holds course records at some tough courses in LA!

  • there are actually a lot of sucessful pros that arnt looking at the ball when they hit it so i can see his point. and considering he is a pga tour coach and probably plays off scratch or at worse low single figures, he is going to know what he is talking about.

  • Well, if I turn my head prior to impact, I cold top it just about every time. Because just like he says, where the head goes, the body goes. So I turn my head early, the shoulders open too soon, and my swing center comes up. I'll stick with watching the impact, thank you.

  • @MrLuigiFercotti If you can't move your head prior to impact and still make solid contact don't do it. But, I still think you should try and move your head freely after striking it. You head only has to be still until impact to hit it solid. Like he said, you are losing potential distance if you watch the ground to long after impact.

  • Wow....

  • excuse me, I'm trying to find my ball, this is golf

  • No way. Sounds crazy....

  • good marketing

  • wow really now i waych this video

  • What do you shoot?

  • He didn't even prove that he could hit the ball like that...

  • @ryanakon Yea, watch his other videos

  • @ryanakon Check his website.... He does...

  • Nice to see someone besides me is teaching something like this. I show students who are obsessed with "keeping the head down and still" a video of David Duval from the front angle. He's looking at the ball at the top....but the target at impact!! Annika, same thing! I tell them their eyes have already signaled their brains, which have already told there muscles where the ball is when they set up to it and look down at it...after that, DON'T WORRY about watching the club hit it!

  • It sounds crazy but when I am chipping or pitching the ball 40-60 yards at the range, they go a little left or right and then I'll do one with the early head turn and it will be dead on line and with more spin. I'll hit the straightest most spot-on shots when I am not looking at the ball when I hit it. Ron rules!

  • thank you very much for this tip because before knowing this I was so crap I couldn't even hit a 6 iron 120 yards on a good shot, now every single shot with it is about 150-160 yards! thank you very much and it truly is the greatest golf tip ever!

  • I think this is a great way of teaching you to turn on the ball . On a cource your head will not come up that fast, but it wont just stay down.

  • Comment removed

  • I saw two big fat naked bikers off 17 having sex, how am i supposed to chip with that going on?

  • terrible tip!! Most of the golfers biggest problem is that they turn their head too early and miss the good hit. Its way better tip that you consentrate to good hit to the ball. Pretty often when you turn your head too early you dont hit clean. Thats fact.

  • This is a great technique for some styles but a killer for other styles.True swingers of the club can get away with this since the low point of the swing is controlled by tempo and timing.Hitters however need an "aiming point"(usually ahead of the ball but varies depending on club )to direct the thurst of the right arm toward. If a "hitter" rolled his head with the pivot and therby loses sight of the aiming point, he would be hitting fat, thin, topped etc shots.Duval and Sorenstam are swingers.

  • this is a good way to teach it because that sort of came natural for me but i try keeping my head down and it will be 10 times worse and to see someone actually catching onto something like that is just plain dedication to the game and concenration on the swing but remember lifting the head before your swing is just to get used to the swing

  • name one good player who does this and then upload the video...and how many events has Jesper won....worst tip ever

  • @CommackGolf9

David Duval and Annika Sonrenstam....both major winners.

  • @CommackGolf9 It is actully the secret to club head speed. Get it CLUB your Head = Speed. The key for me is to get my into my right thigh and that gives me the freedom to turn. The thing is also, like water you use it to drink. Well water has also been used as fuel to drive cars. With only 2 minutes, it is not possible to FULLY put it all together. Tghe point is to give you the awareness that it is possible and explore how it works for you. Well wishes.

  • IT IS A VERY REVOLUTIONARY CONCEPT FOR ME.

I will try in the field.

  • I think this is a great tip, especially for the older golfer. Go to the range, and you'll see them frozen through impact, and the ball goes no where. If they applied your tip, I'll bet you they'd have better contact, and the ball would go further.

  • This is fantasic advice Ron. I have been practicing chipping and pitching using a similar technqiue and noticed how much better I was timing and striking the ball. I have been hitting balls at the driving range with great effortless rhythm. This technique promotes lag, timing, rhythm, balance and great ball striking. I'm sure Ron exaggerates his head movement to make a point, but his underlying message is to allow your club do the work which follows head/body rotation. This is good advice.

  • when have you seen a player on tour do this. yes i belive you can move it side to side but not rotating it!

  • I experimented with this techinique for 3 months back in 1998 and had some success with it. Thanks for the upload!

  • Annika Sorenstan !

  • man i dont mean any disrespect to u or ur vids but ur teaching methods are plain and simple...bullshit! i'm trying to figure out why are you going against everything that golf is about, ur going against all the greats and legends of the game! if ur way is so right and these guys are doing it wrong, why are they winning so many tourny's? i mean tiger has won over 70 tourny's, why would he wanna start moving his head now??? lol i'm sorry but i just dont get it!

  • lmao...4 of us tried this at the range and you should have seen it. When we did actually hit it all we could do was top it. This is the worst advise I have ever seen in a golf video. Our club pro couldn't believe we actually watched this guy. It was good for a laugh I guess.

  • @NATOrules

My dad told me to keep the eye on the ball and only turn the head after make a contact.

This tip simply fails short because if i'm turn my head as whole body i miss the ball and lots of bad shots

    are coming.

    Hook,slice,topping,and more.

He's right about turn the head but i think you have to do that after you make a contact and slowly turning

    your head.

You not gonna see tiger turning his head that fast like this guy does.

  • holy cow...I've been playing every week for only 5 months and all the guys say 'Keep ya head down!'..apparently this is not the case! Fantastic tutorial and by viewing the video you can SEE the body's natural movement - no wonder my balls went askew - because my head wants to move with my body! Thanks!

  • Bad tip, watch Corey Pavin's swing.

  • I think the only time that you have to turn your head right after the impact.

Turn the head too early will cause you to lose the ball hit some slices, thin shots or

    even miss the ball.

So you're tip is right to turn the head but it has to done at the right time.

  • Great tips/help going to try it at next golf range visit; although I never knew boxers looked away from their opponent and threw punches at them over their own shoulders.

  • you definetly dont want to start moving your head before ball impact, your head should stay down and still at least until the club head hits the ball, moving your head would mess up your balance before impact(make you slice, top, and chunk the ball a lot)

  • @Cyrus919 no, thats exactly like saying that you have to look at the balls when you are juggling, which you do not, or like throwing a ball up, you do not need to look at the ball and you can still know where it is

  • I'll try it

  • NONSENSE! Head must be down when hit the ball.

  • look proffesionals ...all hold head down...

  • Why on earth would you want to try and swing like Duval?

  • @watcher1727 if you turned your head on the back swing and the front swing, you have a good 85% chance of not hitting the golf ball. that is according to tiger woods!

  • I used to use my head ala Annika Sorenstam and David Duval years ago, and stopped, I dont know why I stopped, but my swing has deteriorated, I searched high and low, one plane, two plane, the swing sarge, stack and tilt, but these tips I took from watching these videos last night at 10:30 PM were put into practice this morning at 8AM and I struck the ball as solid as I have in years, thanks, you are a God send for me....

  • As if there aren't enough golfers out there topping the ball, which is where this tip is going to leave 98% of them.

    Ugh!

  • @MrLuigiFercotti I totally agree. Every time I see someone miss hit the golf ball it is because they moved their head. I think once you have a good swing and you can turn your head without changing the plane you might be able to do this. In last month's Golf Digest there is a photo of Phil Michelson 3/4 of the way into his followthrough still looking at the ground.

  • @rossal10

There are only a small % of golfers who I would advise this to. Those that have a tendency to hit at the ball and not through. They need to learn to rotate through the shot, but for everyone else, I don't see it. It's just going to cause a ton of problems.

  • I bought a book on the golf sweek last month and i have improved ALOT. It's really easy to understand and will definetly improve your game. I was driving 150-200 now I easily exceed 300 yards. I strongly recommend buying it. Send me a message if you want the link.

  • my golf game is so hurt. my short game and putting are ok, but my irons and especially my driver are the major downfalls in my game.i have a real bad slice and even when i do hit it straight, it only goes about 175 yds. i love this game, but am so frustrated that im not sure i should play anymore. anyone got any good ideas?(and no micheal breed tips. the guys a douche)

  • I've recently started doing the drills suggested by David Lee (Oklahoma), and this particular move was made popular by Duvall and Annika. I tried it a few times and if you time it just right the ball flies off the face effortlessly. Lee's drills are designed to eliminate tension (a killer to the creation of speed) and I'm sure that includes tension in the neck and head, which makes this another good drill, if nothing else.

  • Great to see someone trying something different for a change. After decades of trying to swing like Vardon, Jones, Hogan , Snead, Palmer, Nicklaus, Daly, Woods etc. There're just as many hackers as ever. Definately deserves a try.

  • Ron, what a great concept this is. I live in Colorado and do not get to Cal. very often. I saw these videos late last night and hardly could sleep till I could practice this. Started out hitting great (really nice divots), then started slipping back into old habits. I then started doing a preshot routine of letting the club fall first and then hitting (with more of my weight on the left side). The ball was hissing!! Great job Ron, I will keep you posted on my progress. This is easier on my back

  • Thank you for all of your tips! I find them very usefull and I can't wait to hit the golf course again to try them...

  • This was suggested to me by youtube, and oddly enough this is something that i started to do recently without the knowledge of this video. My upper body used to hang back at the top of the backswing and stay stuck there all the way through meaning that i either didnt strike it well, or if i did hit it, it was a weak high shot which could go left or right. Doing this move has actually got me compressing the ball and starting to strike it a long way better!

  • This instuctor is only 50% correct, we need to turn the head on the backswing also. The biggest sin we hacker's commit is to "anchor our head/neck/eyes" on the take back.

  • arent you supposed to keep your head down

  • @53to3

CUNT ? now thats a bit harsh ...

If you ask me his swing is very smooth and looks great.. Im sure he hits the ball very well.

I think he is simply pointing out that keeping your head still isnt always the 1st and best tip .. and that allowing some movement in the head.. it unlocks the rest of the body ...

Anyhow .. allow me to direct this one at you .. ~~ Cunt !! ~~

  • Unbelievable. "What i want you to do is throw your head totally out of balance so you duff, shank, slice and hook the ball" How about you rotate your head while maintaing your neck tilt's? Check out Mac O'Grady if you want to see how to swing a golf club! This guy is an idiot. Btw one player doesn't make a great teacher. There are players out there my mum could have taught and they would still have been great!

  • 53to3 you need to watch videos of David Duval, Todd Hamliton, Henrik Stenson, Annika they all rotate there head towards the target at the start of the downswing. Don't rip this guy unless you know all the facts. This is a great tip to get your body to rotate in the downswing. It is good for older players who don't have flexibility; it helps them turn and create more speed.

  • Geez, so many golf pros here leaving crap comments. this guy has been working with Jesper Parnevik. I saw them working at the Bob Hope. This guy is miles ahead of most you hacks.

  • Howdy scratchgolfgirl.

Would have been nice to meet you at the Hope. I worked with Jesper through San Diego and 1 round at the Northern Trust as his back pain was too much. Come to find out his L4 was fractured. Says a lot as to his work ethics! At any rate, the video tips on the web site are only about 5% of the total information of each clip. I do get a lot of negitive comments but that's the beauty of golf. No right, no wrong just open to inturtpretation and it's free.

    Thx for the comment

  • @scratchgolfgirl do you like to keep that left arm stiff on 8 irons?

  • that is not good at all

  • loL @ this guy thinking he has a golf tip. I cant imagine how many slices hes created with this so called greatest tip.

  • there is a slight movement of the head-- but only a inch or two. this is to release the right side of your neck muscles which helps SLIGHTLY ... IF YOU DIDNT YOU WOULD END UP WITH A STIFF NERK FROM THE JERKING AT THE END. after the neck the left patella is the last muscle to work. get your swing wrong and these are the points of injury.

  • i know im a pro..

  • It is true...I just got a speed meter and turning the head registers a faster swing speed

  • Who gives a fudge what other golfers do?? If you're still watching what others are doing, you're still not doing it right based on YOUR game.

  • In principle this makes sense, even though many tour players have their heads still at impact, there is a big difference between having your head 'still' and keeping your head 'down'. If you look at Annika Sorenstams swing in slow motion you will notice that she has a a lot of head movement.

  • you must keep your eyes still on the ball , but after impact the head has to move up ,,, all this kind of instruuction will fuck up anyones game ,,, i shot a 70 a month ago now after searching for a better swing i cant break 78 , fuck golf its just too damn mental

  • I am a former U.S. MARINE and a scratch golfer. to fire a rifle at a target u must keep your head still. they invented shotguns for teachers like you. for people who can not aim and do not understand how the human body works. you should try pissing in the toilet with the lights off too.

  • @robsisco they invented shotguns to prevent free thinking, to control and enforce standards on people. Ron is a pioneer of the game, free-thinking is probably a concept that has been removed from your being since joining the marines, what did you do at lights out if you needed a piss ?

  • This is nonsense. Look at Tiger's swing in slow motion - he keeps his head down after impact!

  • tiger uses this swing now dude..it will feel effortless..try it and compare..the back aint gona last long if u always keep ur head down..his back is killing him dats y tiger changed his swing..he hits more than than a thousand balls a day so why do u tink he changed to dis..90 % tour players adopt tis..its just too fast of a swing dat u guys cant see it happening wit the pros..

  • oh my god. this would be one of those guys in a bar who would try to convince you earlier that day he was actually a suicide bomer. tosssssssss

  • bull shit

  • I'm sure your a good player but this just seems a strange way of hitting the ball.

  • if golf is a gentlemen's game ergo golfers are expected to be gentlemen, at least, toward their co-golfers

  • total crap sorry mate taking tough your butt again !

  • well different players have different swing styles. this doesn't work for me. if i do this it always creates an unwanted hook. i prefer the natural turning of the club head.

  • Howdy pajresources,

That's the great thing about golf, as it is in Vegas, there's a bunch of ways to roll a 6 in Vegas as there are a bunch of ways to strike a golf ball. None of which is right or wrong. What ever gets the ball in the hole with the least amount of strokes is all that matters. My method is just another actioin that may or may not work for the individual. Great opps on your behalf!

    Cheers,

    RdB

  • Haha, thats just stupid... Just look at Tiger's swing. What he should say is that your head should move just about when your right shoulder is about in line with the impact point. Then your chin will make contact with the shoulder and your head then automatically turns towards the ball.

  • this is the shitest advice ever

  • A buddy of mine (another old pro) has a system that guarantees you'll break 80 in a couple weeks. golferbreak80dotcom

  • this guy is okay for a beginner style

  • Yeah..funny i never see any of the pros doing this...

  • Anika Sorenstam plays this way.

  • David Duval is a good example of turning your head through impact.

  • hahah

  • it's shooter mcgavin

  • YOU'RE GONNA DIE BOB!

  • saca caddy q me atrasas la cancha pinguinos argentina

  • I think his point is people are hearing dont turn your head (especialy us beginers) and over emphasizing that. Hes also not saying to actualy do what he did in the video. He said he is going to overexagerate it to show you what he is talking about. From the sound of his description as you swing through he wants your head to move with your body so your carying your swing speed through the ball instead of stoping at impact. Just what I took out of this, could be wrong.

  • It seems like it would take and old-skool person who has been "heads down" a real hard time, but I'm going to try.

  • Not sure about this.

At impact your shoulders should be square to the ball so your head is not going to stop your rotation on the downswing, it should turn up naturally when your right shoulder (right handers) rotates into your follow through.

Still, each to their own I guess.

  • I don't agree with this completely. No one keeps their head on the ball all the way through the swing so that's correct. But to turn your head before contact is simply hitting the ball blindly and you will miss hit almost every shot. Watch any swing vision of any golfer the head stays still and locked on the ball through impact then rotates naturally on the up-swing. But like someone said below golf is a game of what works for the individual there's always tips but if it works don't change it.

  • A great example of this method is Annika Sorenstam. She totally pulls her head up through impact.

  • that's what the pro's do

  • OMG I do this, I have been practicing trying to keep my head still but it does not work for me... wow.

  • Swing is coming along. Not grooved yet but when I hit one sweetly I can see the superiority of your method. BTW: Did you say pop and stop...drop ?? Pls clarify

  • thanks a lot mister!!!!!! Seriously!!!!!!!! I always have to keep my head down to hit the ball, and wonder why it doesn't go as far as I would like it to. Thanks!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • no brain

  • david duval does this. he used to be good.

  • good tip

  • I personally think this would be more useful for an advanced player.

  • nice vid

  • I have always had this move. i have had several golf teachers tell me to let my hands pass (Kinda' Like The Move Cory Paven Makes) however; i find it to be a huge power loss. The old saying "keep your head down" is old school and should be ignored. another one I have been told to do is "keep your eye on the ball" 1. you will never see the club and ball meet. 2. I know were the ball is and i find no need to fixate on it.

    Nice Tip thx

  • if i dont keep an eye on the ball i usually miss hitting it, but what i do is to keep eye on ball, and when i hit it, i turn the head. it works for me.

  • cool the most important part of your statement is "it works for me" there are 1000s of ways to get the job done. Good Luck

  • Ok Ron,

Your story makes perfect sense but if my golf teacher hears about this he will force me to unsubscribe from your youtube channel. ;-)

But seriously I think this is a good tip for more experienced golfers.

  • Make sure you only turn the head, not move your head forward.

  • is this just for irons or for all the clubs?

  • I took from Ron...I do it on all clubs but not as exagerated as in these vids.

  • Ron, I've been struggling with lag since learning what it was a month ago. This was the key to getting it for me. It's so obvious now, how can a person possibly hope to get shoulders through the swing if your head is frozen pointing down all the way through to the finish. (slapping the forehead here). Thanks a bunch.

PS. I highly recommend Ron's web site and his simple approach to the swing.

  • Thanks so much for tis tip!!

I was told when I first started playing to keep my eye on the ball. But the movement you're showing is more natural.

  • Comment removed

  • This is like the greatest golf advice I've ever received. Thank you SO much!

lol, I can't even believe how awesome this advice is. I was shocked at the range today.

  • i wear glasses so tend to turn my head back during the backswing, I cannot keep my eyes on the ball at this stage. apart from anything else the shoulder rotation knocks my head right anyway which you can see on my video if you click on my name (I think). I also over swing which i already know about.

  • I'm working on these techniques & this one is particularly important to me since my ball speed is now so fast I l have a tendency to lose the ball. Unfortunately, when I try synchronizing my head into my swing I usually end up hitting the ground before hitting the ball or brushing the ball off the tee. I suppose I need more practice & having a good coach work with me in person. I can't believe how much faster my club is going with this style of swinging, it's amazing.

  • That's great wrappedhands! When it comes to allowing the head to be a part of the downswing, you want to make sure that it has freedom of motion without over doing it. If you watch the video I have posted regarding the head, I stress the importance to allow movement and unless you have a video camera to see it, you might be over rotating the head too soon but based on your comment, there's no question in my mind that you own the passivity part!

  • Great video. I sometimes pull when I do rotate my head. do I need to drop my arms and then rotate my head, or can i do the rotation all together. Thanks.
