if you look at the courtyard wall and actually throughout the building you'll see a thick line in the formwork which marks the level of the ground, a constant reminder of the the interruption of the earth. also on the walk in, there are exactly two leaves cast into the concrete wall, which represent the two trees that had to be removed to complete the project. these are the reasons tadao ando is among the architectural masters of our generation.
