I don't remember this opening video, and I watched Family Ties my whole childhood; but I was four when the show started so I wasn't exactly aware at that time. Then they never used this opening in reruns, so this is something to see.

I wonder what their specific reason was for moving away from this opening. I guess it had a lot to do with the Alex character taking over the show, and probably the whole hippie theme didnt play so well in the "Me" 80s. Didn't fit in with the members only jackets

I watched all theses shows growing up, then the reruns after school, so between the Cosby show, Family Ties, Full House, Fresh Prince, Growing Pains, I have seen all of the way too many times. While I am nostolgic for the times and the great theme songs, the show kind of bore me. Now the Golden Girls or Roseanne season 1-5 I can watch anytime and never gets old..

What I never got from this show was that Michael J Fox was only around 12 years younger than his folks. The same happened in Neighbours, Paul Robinson looked near his dad Jim's age, in reality they were 8 years apart.

Dennis Tufano, singing here, was actually the original singer for The Buckinghams, whose hits included "Kind of A Drag", "Don't You Care", "Hey Baby", etc.. I don't believe he was ever with the Fortunes.
