  • The clip from 1.18 is the best, where is the rest of it?

  • The original version of this song was one of the first songs ever recorded in the ska style. It was recorded in 1956 by 14 year old Brooklyn girl named Barbie Gaye. The cover sounds a lot like the original down to the way certain words were pronounced. One major difference was the original used a saxophone (legendary Al Sears) and the cover used a harmonica (not legendary Rod Stewart) listen to the Barbie Gaye version. Then try to find a song recorded before 1956 that sounded so "ska."

  • love this¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡

  • Millie, you are the Queen of reggae!

  • @blkwada This isn't reggae, this is ska.

  • i can stand this song .... but ........... her voice is very irritating ...... worse than chalk ran over a chalkboard!

  • She is so cute! Her smile and her way of dancing. Really a fun song.

  • She was great and hot. Better than Diana Ross.. Nice.. Cute as a bug. Sweet.

  • SKA at it's best. Great song by a beautiful artist.

  • The way she moves is so cute.

The clip with public she sings live isn't it?

  • Rod Stewart Playing harminica on this

  • @homemoviescolorado

Actually it wasn't Rod Stewart, it was Pete Hogman, who was part of the lineup on harmonica with Jimmy Powell and the Five Dimensions and is still going strong with his own band 'Hoggie and the Sharpetones'

  • the high pitch on songs does me heading

  • jaja en lo que se fijais... si no es una raja, es de la camiseta, que mal pensados xD

  • She's cute... wonder if she knows what she is singing about... my boy('s) lollipop goes giddy-up...

  • lol..yes, probably!

  • More crap. She says, "you make my heart go giddy-up"....not that his lollipop goes giddy-up. There are so many bores around these days who like to see something risque in nearly everything.

  • Every time I hear Millie sing this I know there is hope for the world.Thank's for my Millie Small fix.#1 on the bubble gum hit parade. If you see her tell her to call me.

  • amo esta rola la amo

  • its music familiar to sugar, sugar (the archies)

  • My girl Milliepop. I think I'm in love.

  • Oh this is fine! Millie Small is too cool for school. Beautiful, and what moves! Love it. Thank you for posting!

  • She sure was a cutie back in the day.

  • how can a woman of dat age sing like a 2 year old ??? :O she sings it very good tho

  • she was only 16. dont let the black and white vid fool you.

  • Contrary to legend, the harmonica player was not Rod Stewart but Pete Hogman of The Pete Hogman Blues Band and Hoggie & The Sharpetones. Hogman told us: "The backing for 'My Boy Lollypop' was recorded live in the studio. I played harmonica and Ernest Ranglin played a black Gibson. Several people have claimed to have played the harmonica break .... By the way, Rod Stewart has never claimed to have played that solo, in fact he has said it was me in the Bob Marley life story Catch A Fire."

  • Read recently how naughty these lyrics were ... so 5* 'cos she got away with it lol

  • Ska Ska good music :D

  • I think she croaked at an early age, too bad.

  • Millie Small is still alive, you may be confusing her with Little Eva who died at 59 in 2003.

  • she is still alive she is 61

  • this is tina turner man...

  • The video was hot but i think she should have danced alittle more n the video

    Lima Peru.

  • very good hook to this tune!

  • Rod Stewart had absolutely nothing to do with the recording or the singing of this hit, so stop it!!! Hit it (little) Millie!!

  • Yes! True Jamaican-girl-child of the 60's! Happy, joyfully cute!! Millie Small, only 12years of age!! Is she singing in Jamaican (patios)... No!!!

  • que buen tema es este

    que interesante video

  • lol 2:06 to 2:15 lol shes a funny girl

  • this song was one of my mom's favorites. my mom died two years ago and this song reminds me so much of her. thank you for posting it.

  • afraid its a pop myth about rod. he wasnt on it

  • Thank Mr Rod Stewart for the great harmonica

    playing heard in the recording..

  • The song was originally written and recorded in the early 1950s, I believe. Millie, bless her heart and soul, is covering the tune.

  • My late partner told me that he recorded this song/record with Millie in his own recording studio in the UK in the 60s. I am afraid I don't know the history of it any further than that though.

  • Ortley beach 1964

  • If that picture is real, Millie ain't Small ...

  • If you look up her name on Yahoo or Google...You'll find a nude picture of Millie Small.

    Great Song btw.

  • She has family on reading comments so mind what you say about her.

  • I dont care, It's not like she didn't take the picture on purpose. It's what she did, its on the net. Im just saying.

  • I saw that album cover. How Old was she? She looks young.

  • I remember when this came out it was soooo different to everything else

  • I love this song! Have it as my ringing tone and dude? I sing it like everywhere too! Lol. Too bad I have an alto voice, lol. :D

  • honestly i didnt expect her to sing this song

  • Still one of the greatest all time classics! I wish I met her back then when she was doing the interview

  • she is sooo cute and i love this song. ^^;

  • Really interesting to see the difference between Millie in the crowd and on her own. So much more confident and happy with people!

  • No doubt Rod introduced himself to the young Millie then! I have seen the entire ''scaffolding'' version on a video, very good indeed.

  • shes a freak really

  • I swear this chick looks kind of out of it on 2:46 my god lmao

  • It was the ganga, mon!

  • LMAO haha nice patwa(jamaican language) ppl will luv u there im jamaican SHE ROXXXXXXXXX

  • "patwa" is a dialect. English is the Jamaican language!!!

  • it's actually spelled "patois" just in case you didn't already know.

  • how r u gonna tell me?! im jamaican they speak patwa aka messed up english

  • yeah lmfaoo..she looks like she got tired of singing the same song over and over

  • Very nice. I especially like the bit of film from about 1:14 to 1:45 -- seems to be a live performance, at a somewhat faster tempo, with Millie dancing around. The other footage is more restrained, and she's lip sinking to the recording. I'd like to see the full footage of that one!

  • That might be from the British series "Ready Steady Go." Often, the performer would sing amongst or near the kids in the audience. Millie was cute as a button, especially in the short interview she did for the Dutch or Finnish show that's here at Youtube.

  • Probably the first ska song any of us ever heard, back in the day.

  • scorchio!

  • Yep. I also looked it up in Wikipedia under Millie Small. Not to mention, I read it in an earlier version of The Rolling Stone Encyclopedia of Rock and Roll.

  • I also heard that Rod's old band Jimmy Powell and the Five Dimensions has done seesion work with Millie Small. Some sources claimed that Rod played harmonica, while other sources claimed that Jimmy played on the session. But what I heard decades ago that it was indeed Rod on the harmonica when he did some session work right after his stint with his professional soccer career.

  • There was a rumour circulating that Rod Stewart played harmonica on this track. Is this true?

  • It's true! Rod Stewart did play harmonica on this track.

  • Really? I've heard it's an urban legend. Are you sure?

  • Yes he's the harmonika man in this song.

  • cool

  • ska ska ska ska!!
