United Airlines B777 200 Landing at Kona Airport and Parking at Gate

I just flew Flight 3 from ORD to OGG (Maui) and then it went onto Kona, some people stayed on the plane but not many! Wonder why the do this?

@dwags59 The Flight to KOA is a fuel stop more so than to carry passengers between OGG and KOA. The runway at OGG is too short (just under 7000 feet) to get a fully loaded 777 off the ground with the fuel it needs to get back to ORD, where as KOA has an 11,000 runway. So the 777 heads over to KOA with a light fuel load and gets refueled there to head back to ORD.

@dwags59 Basically Kahului Airport's runway is too small for a fully loaded Boeing 777-200 plane.

They're not - there are no GE engines in the anywhere in the United fleet. All United 777s are PW4000-powered.
