Google tv is junk roku is the only device that comes close to apple tv as far as quality. I have an xbox 360 and wd hd live media player, xbox is terrible for streaming torrents. Wd hd is a must have!!

This device makes a lot of sense if your main computer is far and you want to watch or listen to stuff on bigger screen and better stereo. It lets you stream your stuff right from your iPhone iPad iPod touch without using the main computer too. Plus everything the guy mentioned - pretty sleek!

@REDONI7 It's meant to streamline the experience. If you have an XBOX or PS3, this would be pointless... but if you would like to have a dedicated product for streaming Netflix or renting media this would be perfect.

Example; in my living room there is no game system or PC near. It's cumbersome to have to go grab the laptop, the laptop charger, and HDMI cords just to stream Netflix.

For me it is.... it's nice just to plop down on the couch and have it ready to go whenever. No hassle. Simple.

u can jailbreak this ... install XBMC... install the icefilms plugin and bam u get free movies + tv shows .

I really wanted the 1st generation of Google TV to work out well, but all the tech sites I trust seem to think Google TV is half-assed and far from being worth the high cost.  Apple TV isn't perfect by a longshot, but its surely better than the Google TV devices. Maybe Google will see the major flaws in its design and get their act together in the 2nd generation. The Boxee Box is probably the second best streaming device out there.

I have a Mac Mini under my TV running PLEX (based on XBMC) and it's great and I would never replace it with a cheap set-top-box.

The problem is that having a complete PC under your TV isn't cheap. At least $300 for a home theatre PC compared to $99 for Apple TV.

I think Apple TV is far better for a casual user than a HTPC. The only bad thing is no 1080p support but the casual user won't even notice that.
