  • It actually reaches 162 MPH because of the speed limiter for top speed but with the speed limiter removed it could reach close to 190 MPH

  • if this was british built car it would be much better, better interior (american cars are dull), more power (they say 500hp but only has 460hp), better build quality, lighter, better chassis, and independent suspension. Like we have a car called the MG ZT and thats powered by a mustang engine on a FWD chassis but the car is RWD and our FWD chassis is better being a RWD then americas RWD. And before i forget, it would have much better handling if it was british.

  • Top speed 155 mph? Fuck i've gone that fast in my 02 Z28. Which i'm selling for 5 grand. So why the hell would I spend 50,000+ on it.

  • It's a proven fact an automatic shifting car is faster than a manual clutch car. I was racing this car off a toll booth on the NJ Parkway. When I was at high rpm he was at high rpm. We both floored it at exactly the same time on 1st gear. I could hear his tires chirp after every shift, but I was still ahead. At around 75-80 he started to pull on me. That's after he went through 3 gears. His shift delays added up but his HP and Torque took over at high gear. I was in a 350hp BMW 545i.

  • This car is a manual and when it debuted in 2006 they said at the auto show only 6speed trannys were to be installed. Of course five years down the road they may have decided to stick autos in them but I didn't think so. This one in the video is a Manual the shifter knob tells you this.

  • I love how the 03-04 Cobra's are still so good that they beat this to 60 by .1 and also hold a better skidpad of .90g. Those cars are the best. But this car is awesome, and the 2011 is just nasty!

  • @FutureMarine246 Well there is diffren ways of doing it, theres the rollying road type dyno, and a type which bolts right onto the hub with the wheels off. Both of those you can use to calculate wheel and crank engine power. Then there is just testing the engine. There is a problem, peritculay with the 07 shelby, when supercharged cars are on the dyno, they can get too hot and after a couple of runs they show a false output which would read low.

  • Its electronically limited to 155. Car and Driver admits to having conservative numbers because they want to simulate the capabilities of most buyers rather than professional drivers.

    In my opinion, they need to test the full capabilities of the car itself because they have no way of knowing who can and can't achieve those numbers.

  • lots of conusmer cars that aren't performance are closer to 110. even cop cars (crown vics) built after 2005 are limited to 120 with the 3.55 axle, and those with the 3.27 are limited to 135

  • its limited to 155 for many reasons. to go faster, it would need better brakes, better tires, better aerodynamics and better suspension. doing all that would make the car very expensive, much more than 50k. and thats not what its about. its bargain performance, not top speed-buy a motorcycle

  • @roO7412 I was wondering the same exact thing. A BMW M5 is heavier with less power to the ground, yet it is just as quick, if not quicker than the GT500.

  • talking about the M5... perhaps just a matter of traction control and some issues related to gearbox and differential... still annoys me and brings absolutely down this GT500 image...

    And talking about the terminator... i didn't know they were lighter than this 2010 shelby... but sounds pretty accurate actually... :)

  • IT only does 155. my 98 gt does well over 160  i'd rather just buy 2 or 3 of them then spend 50,000 dollars on 155 mph

  • of course it can go higher, just think the saleen is limited at 200mph and has a 5.0 with around 500hp and a supercharger the gt500 is limited to 160 with 540hp a 5.4! and a supercharger why couldnt it go 200mph just like the saleen if its got a bigger engine and more 40 extra hp? the gt500 is governer limited to 155 but you can hit more

  • because the saleen is aerodynamically more efficient. the saleen slices it's way thru the air while the GT500 clubs and bashes. no doubt the GT500 could do more than 155 but i dont think it'd do much over 180 if that.

  • @abelardo753159 what saleen is limited to 200mph? the only saleen to hit that is the s7 which not a mustang. the aero drag on the mustang need a hell of alot more than 500 flywheel hp!

  • That' because of the governor they put on the engine (electronic limiter). Top speed for the car has been said to be around 180.

  • This is not a 4.6L GT dude. It's a DOHC 5.4L that runs over 400BHP on its own without a supercharger.

  • the car is governed to only do 155 top speed the kr was doing 202mph without speed limiter so this car can easily do that and its faster than a kr because its lighter

  • ok fastest time recorded to date with this 2010 cobra is 11.7 at 117mph muscle mustangs and fast fords had no problem reaching this did it on first run

  • Shelby may be a "TUNER COMPANY" but that baby is all FORD. Remember, the GT500 is a model offered by FORD. It is designed and built by ford through SVT, not shelby...consider shelby as a sort of honarary consultant to FORD so they can put his name on the car.

  • I hate it when they ride the brake during a burn out. In the GT500 you dont need to do this because there is enough torque. I know because I have one.

  • so its okay to compare the 426 hp camaro ss to a 315 HP mustang GT 111 HP difference so why not the GT500 to the ss camaro 114 HP difference or is it just because ur a GM fan and you have to make it to where its on your side but concidering the GT didnt lose by much it doesnt really matter and henessey camaro has to be purchaced by hennessey in houston not by dealars shelbys are bought thru dealers the GT500 is made in flat rock unless you want a GT500 super snake you get it from las vegas

  • henessey camaro still could not top the snake it got rapped the cobra out handled the car. the slomaro was completely built springs, sc, bigger tires and the car was no better than it was stock

  • sorry to disappoint you but you are comparing a new car to a used one. RS4 was more than 65k when new and it gets 21 MPG highway. This GT500 is faster than an audi R8 in a straight line. 12.7 vs 12.3 for the GT500. you better get your facts straight.

  • Sorry to disappoint but I own an "used" audi RS4, get 28MPG on 97octane. Also to get a Gt500 or any front engine RWD car to hook up and do a perfect run is extremely hard, a disadvantage it has to a R8 or any other AWD sports car. at a recent event near my home town i watched a friends 05 Subaru Impreza WRX STI (stock with factory tires) smoke a 06 GT500 for the simple reason it could not hook up on the factory tires.

  • well you say you get 28 MPG on 97 octane, so you always use race gas or why is the octane so high when is normally 91 at the pump?

    You also base a race between an sti stock vs a gt500 and think that just because the GT500 lost, it means its slower. and and you compare a new gt500 at 45k when the rs4 was 70k when New. you also say rs4 get 28 mpg when magazines have 13 city 20 highway!

    my car says 26 highway and I really dont expect to get 10 more than advertise which is 36 like your audi does

  • allow me to explain myself, 1) I hav yet to insult your intelegence, 2)in reference to the octane, here in NC 93 is offered at the pump its is very hard to find 91 in small towns, i buy 97 for my RS4 at a local drag strip and VIR when i go. I run 93 in my GLI daily driver. 3) in reference to the STi i believe you will find that i did not call the GT500 slower but rather pointing out a traction issue it has VS. a AWD. if the GT500 had decent traction it would have given the STi a fight .

  • 4) 28MPG in a RS4 is very reasonable, if you baby the car, drive the car properly for effeciency, have the car properly tuned and constantly pampered, you will see results.( i was an audi mechanic and know how to manipulate the 4.2L very well.) i will note the only mod i have done to my RS4 is a milltek cat-back exhaust to give the NASCAR roar alittle help. 5) i drove the last series GT500 and loved the accelration hated the handling and traction issues.

  • continuoing with my last comment. I love my car looks, engine sounds, performance, prize and that its a mustang. I dont have to lie by saying that its still faster than the new camaro SS, or that it gets 30 MPG, or that it has a great interior, or any other thing. I might either like it or dis like it but I wont make stuff up.

  • with all the experience you have driving I still dont understang why you prefer a 4wd over a 2wd. most professional drivers I know hate 4wd unless its rally cars or off road. other than that everyone seems to like 2wd and this is why formula 1, nascar, any other mayor sport only has rwd cars. in real racings the advantages of a 4wd cars is minimal since 4wd adds weight and yeah its good in the street for crappy drivers that can't properly launch a 2wd car.

  • ok, heres how it works: i drive a AWD car for the safety of my growing family when we go to church and events on the weekends, this helps my wife who has no exsperience what so ever in high performace cars, be more comfortable in the drivers seat when she needs the car (which is rarely, and she usually has my 2 kids with her. the car is a pampered family hauler/weekend play toy. the perfect sport sedan: safe, family friendly, loads of power, great handling (wet, snowy or dry).

  • Yes my preference at a track event would be a RWD car like a M3, by no means a mustang. but again preferences vary from people to people and my opinion is my opinion, I hav no regretts buying My RS4, i believe in years to come it will become a collectors piece. A vette gets 26MPG in a pushrod V8, a more effecient DOHC V8 getting 28 is completely possible. this complete argument has become old very quick. in order to end this Im goin to call it a truce and move on,both our points made. happy 4th

  • I have an 04 mustang GT and if I wanted to baby the car I would rather buy a Prius. So if you say your car gets 28 mpg which I still dont believe then I assume that a car with similar MPG ratings like the gt500 will easily achieve the same result if its driven by you. I just hate when people want to see theirs cars as better to justify their purchase. I know my car and I know it has a weak 260 hp engine, terrible on gas, noise interior, and cheap and I am still kool with that.

  • I never insulted you, I just told you to get your facts straight. I still dont understand why you base a 97 octane gas to daily driving using 91. I dont know how a higher octane works, perhaps it needs less gas to perform the same job and that is why you might be getting better mileage. Still race gas is very expensive and I see no advantage of driving it on the streets other than having a faster RS4.

  • It is hard to get a decent launch in a Mustang....narrow tires, TQ monsters - add gears and it gets worse. But, I'd still take a 2010 GT500 over a used RS4 fo sho.

  • an audi rs4 is so boring to drive. Yeah they are quick but it offers absolutely no fun factors. And if you want to compare, $50000 will buy you a cadillac cts-v and that will run rings around an rs4, m5, s6, e63 etc etc etc... The rs4 is nice but its deffinately not the best.
