  • great video.

  • Wow, his last words, about not wanting to be included even if humans worked it out, are extreamely interesting to hear. Can some of you give me some suggestions on why he still wants nothing to do with man even if they succeed?

  • @finalfantasy8911 I'm speculating here, but I think it was because that, eventually, things would just break down again. Humans lack the ability to lead one another forever as history shows us with nations like Rome, France, Japan, China, and many others. Even if humans were to seemingly work out their differences and live in peace, what guarantee is there that it would last forever?

The human condition is a fickle thing that is unpredictable.

  • @MrEniena

Thats a good suggestion; and the suggestion itself is true. Humans are always a disappointment.

  • Comment removed

  • @MrEniena

Why did you remove your comment?

  • @finalfantasy8911 I wanted to do some rewriting on it so I removed it, but got distracted and forgot about it. I actually just remembered about it thanks to your reply so here it is.

I wouldn't say all humans are disappointment. There are still some good eggs amongst the bad. I mean the fact intelligent people still exist and continue to contribute to the world is incredible.

But it's a shame the bad eggs are going to cause a huge mess that is going to affect those good eggs.

  • jup i agree your all pretty fucked

  • but is there hope in your after life carlin? or are they savages aswell,....on a ride.

  • Simply Amazing.

  • For those who don't believe me just think of all the abortions in dumpsters, needles in junkies arms, school dropouts, criminals running free, children burning to death from napalm in wars, rapists getting it on this very second, and all the AIDs patients who will die because they got their disease from some sick African fucking monkeys. There is no hope, there never was, we are just too biased to believe it.

  • @rustyschackleford100

Good, no GREAT riddance to humanity, then.

  • Fuck hope- at first this upset me, but now I thrive on it when people agree with this idea because it's the truth. We are just another failed species in the limitless universe with infinite other planets and alien species. 99% of all species here on Earth that have ever existed are gone, and death is imminent, so why continue to fight this uphill battle that we can never win? We should give up now and enjoy what little time we have left instead of crusading for some impossible goal.

  • Motherfucker read my mind

  • what an insightful man.

  • I'd like to play this for all the idiots who went crazy for Obama's "hope" nonsense in 2008. (Before you try to flame me - Republicans suck, too.)

  • Carlin did something very valuable here; he pointed out that problems exist. I disagree with him; humans just need a good asskicking to get back into line.

  • @LichQueenKathie "Back into line"? When have we ever been in line? Has humanity done amazing things? Sure, but it's done far more horrible things. Remember, as beautiful as the pyramids are, they were built from slave labor. As beautiful as the Roman colosseum is, it was built for humans to watch other humans get slaughtered and maimed.

  • @NihilistSlacker I never said they were in line. But before you go on a big tiraid about how the world is fucked and everyone is evil, just remember professionals like me. I've devoted every day of my life since the age of 16 (when I decided I wanted to be a psychologist) to helping others. Hardly the actions of an evil person. And hey, there are better people than me! Don't sell humanity down the river too quickly love.

  • @LichQueenKathie The 'back' part of "back into line" infers that you believe humanity was once in line (ethically speaking). Never happened. I've never said 'everyone is evil'. I don't believe in evil. I use words like 'horrible' to get across ideas that are hard to articulate but I don't see any objective 'good' or 'evil' in the works of the human race.

That said, your studies are mostly selfish in nature, you must admit. Psychologists roll them nickles. There's nothing wrong with that.

  • @NihilistSlacker I work for the NHS, I don't roll in any kinda nickles :p

Besides, my girlfriend has rich parents and she has a REALLY nice job...ergo, I could sit at home doing bugger all if I wanted ._. But I don't like sitting at home doing bugger all, I'm not that kinda girl xD

  • Knew there was a reason I loved this guy.

  • Amazing stuff.

  • where is this from please helpp me

  • I just had a discussion with a friend about hope and hopelessness and we had this and I said "fuck hope"this towards the end of the discussion. I felt like that philosophy had to have been used prior so I googled it. And here I am... I fucking love Carlin.

  • Carlin's voice is my favorite. I could listen to him for hours.

  • I will marry everyone who thinks like this. I don't care if you are male or female. And this means a lot because I'm not gay

  • @IanCaufield I think like this :-) but I also dont believe in marriage...

  • @Cryptiabydagmar Will you civil-union me?

  • @IanCaufield Hahaha, yeah!

  • Carlin is my hero, the world got just a tad more fucked when he died.

  • He's insane if he thinks his point of view isn't cynicism, it undeniably is.

The worst cynics are the ones who don't care if the world sorts itself out.

  • @DrunkNinja19 No, the worst cynics are the ones who say everything's gonna be okay.

  • @DrunkNinja19 Believe what you will but I'd rather be around a bunch of apathetic cynics than a rabid, ideology feuled goosestepper, whether he/she be on the socialist left or the corporatist right of the American spectrum of politics.

  • @NihilistSlacker Fair enough mate, each to their own. Although cynics aren't exactly my kind of people, I can understand such a view. Plus, I do concede that the more extreme individuals on either end of the political spectrum can be utterly moronic.

    Have a good day.

  • lucky he was happy

  • @Morgethein he wasn't saying he didn't know how to fix large issues though he said he doesn't have any interest in doing so at all

  • ..provocation can be a good way to lead people to self-awareness... 'I still don't wish to be included' - bit late you were your whole life.

  • that one last statement, just cant agree with. I think that's what he intended too :p

  • most religious values can explained like that and many comedians and atheists do it just surprises me that carlin had (or claimed he had) absolutely no interest or personal desire in affecting the world postively, i just think it's odd to be atheist and not a humanist, if you aren't a humanist, why would you care if there was a god or not? carlin makes himself out to be the caricature that religious people often paint of atheists; totally denying morality

  • in one stand up about pro-lifers he did say something along the lines of "life is a continuous thing, rolling along" and that it was irrational and impractical to place value on one life or have any notion of the sanctity of life because at one point it didn't exist, and it shan't exist when it dies, and the reason people believed in the santity of life in the first place is because they're scared their mortality made them insignificant

  • It's called the American Dream, 'cause you have to be asleep to believe it."

  • Or maybe he didn't hate the human race... Actually, I'm pretty sure he didn't because he did say in another discussion that he was connected to everything. That everything is just one "spirit." And it doesn't seem like he hated himself.

And if that's true, maybe where he's coming from with this is that the universe (so we) is so vast that whatever we do isn't going to make much of a difference. Our self-importance makes us believe it, though, and we create hope and so more pain.

    I dunno xD

  • He definitely gives an interesting opinion.

Unfortunately, whether Carlin identified with something or not, he was part of whatever he claimed to reject by simply existing. You can't simply take yourself out of the picture unless you're dead. He maybe did mentally, but physically he was a contributing member of the race he hated.

That being said, "if you think there's a solution, you're part of the problem" is something I've never heard. I've always wanted to help. Maybe that's what's wrong.

  • whilst i love george carlin and his works, this excerpt made me think he was a larthargic cynic, especially as he's clearly intelligent and accutely aware of the world he lived in, the unwillingless and lack of desire to do anything other than entertain people with his insight kinda make me dislike him as a person

  • now thats a genius. Its seriously equated as music to my ears.

  • Yes, fuck hope. Because hope fucked us back.

  • @cheeriosinabowl you took the words right out of my mouth brother.

  • Comment removed

  • Solutions have only ever served to create more problems haven't they?

  • george carlin was NOT an atheist....hes actualy said this and its because he refuses to associate with any social or cultural group. I would say he was a freethinker.

  • @BGo93 yeah man. Fuck the power. Smoke weed every day. Bathing is for wimps. Grow out your hair. I LOVE COMMUNISM

  • smh felt like i had to hear this after listening to Rebbecca black .

  • @missaquaboogie Humans can be ugly as a collective, but they can also be fantastic as a collective. We just tends to focus and remember the horrors and devastation because those are the aspects which are problematic and need fixing. The only issue is how? Carlin may not buy into a 'solution' and our 'retribution' lies in or 'destruction' but his view is bleak, boring even, it's giving up, leaving humanity in utter camatose. At least with hope we're moving, we're striving, for better or worse.

  • As much as I disagreed with a lot of Carlin's views, I respected this man so much for his brutal honesty, devotion to his own philosophy and how unapologetic he was. He never had another agenda. He never seeked to change things and he never acted otherwise. An intelligent, strong and steadfast man, may he rest in peace.

  • @mongolenpup I'm not saying there is nothing wrong with this species, in fact we may be the most messed up species. And while u have some merit to ur stance on ppl herding in groups to fight other groups to solve problems, I am not among those ppl who do that. All I'm saying is that even if there is no hope, talking about there not being hope does not really help

  • @17GreenLantern well it does help...cause it is better to face reality. I mean 63% of humans live within 100 miles of the ocean...lol 3 million alone in Pompeii live next to a volcano that is overdue to erupt. Even if people fixed it...unfortunately we have built entire cities close to earthquake, tsunami, hurricaine prone eras...so either way we are fucked. Not to mention people destroy things by petty infighting...gender, race/ethnicity, sexual orienation, class, religion etc

  • @17GreenLantern the solution is NO solution...abolish everything...change self not to discriminate on petty things and learn to love one another...that can never happen as long as religion and commerce. The only way things can change if about 99% of humans die---and the way the people who run things think...there is a good chance that may happen. People are So beautiful individually...but collectively the human species is UGLY as HELL lol How can this be?

  • @missaquaboogie this can be because ppl feel the need to put on a front when they go out in the world, which is ironic because if people were as beautiful as u say they are (which is up for debate) the world may be a better place. Ghandi once said be the change u wish to see in the world, and I go by that hoping that my mannerisms have a positive effect on others, and if not I do not worry about it. That's why i say expressing there is no hope does not help

  • @17GreenLantern people are beautiful individually...as in their are aspects of their personalities that only unique to them...that make them interesting...y'all are missing the point...in order to solve a problem you have to face it...what Carlin is saying is just that and because that may never happen I don't see a reason to believe otherwise considering the evidence at hand.

  • @missaquaboogie do u support communism, socialism, or atheism by any chance?

  • @17GreenLantern I don't support any "isms"...they propose simplistic understanding of a complex structural problem

  • With exception to the last 45 seconds or so, that was arguably the most pessimistic, borderline depressing thing I ever heard in my life, and definitely most pessimistic, borderline depressing thing I ever heard from a comedian

  • @17GreenLantern And most realistic.

  • Fuck Hope. I love you, Carlin. Fucking brilliant man.

  • I have news for you: I just realised that I have no time for a trolling supercilious know-it-all who tries to bullshit a connection between physics and the "rehashed Christian eschatology" that, apparently, is Marxism.

  • @jhyfyuk

I have news for you. You aren't paying attention to who I was responding to. They are two separate comments. But Marxism is still bullshit.

  • S = k log w

    watch?v=RFUpdgsZVps

"We're all fucked. It helps to remember that." ~George Carlin

Help each other and live life to the fullest while it lasts. It's just a ride folks.

  • He's almost waving a flag for a Christian concept here; that being that the world isn't meant to get better, it's meant to act solely as a mechanism of conflict to evolve humanity. Pretty flawed concept.

It's also easy for him to have this view coming from a rich and pain free time and place in human history. If he'd experienced the joys of the inquisition, slavery or medieval England he might be better equipped to draw a distinction between "worse" and "better".

    Gotta love the guy though.

  • @sillychad18 Religion = slavery. Better die young and sick rather than old and healthy but still a slave of something that only fries your brain and perpetuates domination of humans, disguised as something "GOOD" and meaningful. Religion is for the weak of mind, heart and soul, people who need to believe in something to give some meaning to their sad and pathetic lives. Tell that to the young people who died in all religious attacks or those who suffer by the hands of pedophile priests.

  • @mauriliobragafc indeed, as Karl Marx said "Religion is the heart of a heartless world, the soul of soulless conditions, it is the opium of the people"

  • @neodarlek my dad taught me that quote :) it's true... so very true

  • @neodarlek

Too bad Marxism was rehashed Christian eschatology. Who needs a secondhand theology? The socialist millennium won't arrive either.

  • @mateo3470 That doesn't make an ounce of sense.

  • @jhyfyuk

I have bad news for you. Both individually and collectively, it's all going to end some day. I was implying cosmic entropy with the equation Boltzmann had on his gravestone. Look up heat death. The idea of heat death stems from the second law of thermodynamics. Maybe the big crunch will occur. Either way, we're fucked.

  • let me ask u ppl this could the world be fixed !?!??!

  • @FunnyStuff1234123 Hell no.

  • "Idealism is thoroughly tainted with the mindboggling arrogance religion has instilled in this species"

    agreed

but it always takes an idealist to move the world forward even if the masses always do crush them in the end

  • I agree 99% with him, all the way up to the last part. I may decide to be included should the world happen to resolve its' crisis of greedy stupidity. Otherwise, Fuck It.

  • without the idealists we would still live in mud huts killing each other for scraps of food

no......actually the "human game" would have ended long ago

  • i came, i saw, i believed.

I learned, came back and saw the disease

    Carlin wasnt perfect you know

in many cases he was as wrong about humanity as pat robertson was when he was making doomsday predictions

i irritates me to no end when people comment on words of people like carlin and hicks and just repeat them on and on like a broken record without any soul of their own

and this guy is the only man i ever respected mind you

  • Can't get ENOUGH of this man... Never ceases to bring a smile to my face.

  • I agree with everything Carlin said, except I root for my own destruction as well.

  • sounds like jack nicklson to me!

  • this is from the book brain droppings (good book by the way)

  • Great!

  • Ahead of his time, in so many ways. RIP George. I will miss you.

  • Wow I just got a sudden rush to commit suicide

  • @ZakBrownrigg123 Did the suicide attempt work out? :D

  • @h3lldw3ll3r no it didn't work out for him, he shot himself in the head and lived, now he has a big fucking hole in his head and has to wear some kind of a dumbass hat :)

  • @ZakBrownrigg123 lmfao

  • too smart, too funny, too soon

  • George Carlin is the most sincere and honest White person that I have ever come across. He proves to me that it is possible for some Whites to empathize with others. He had a soul, something many people seem to be disconnected from. His view of the world and mankind is accurate. Sadly the deceptions, lies and parasitic nature of the elites made him ready to leave this planet that they have fucked up for many centuries under their pretense of victim hood when they are being called out.

  • @mikuruasahinarunrun Oh please! How come some dumbfucks still think of everything in terms of race. Racists they are called. We are all individuals, and there are good, honest individuals in any race and nasty, criminal fucks in any race as well. I still don't know which one you are, you might just be ignorant. If you knew Carlin he ALWAYS talked about how he likes individuals but hates groups. You do EXACTLY the opposite.

  • Comment removed

  • Took the words right out of my mouth... amazing.

  • @cheeseit126 he didnt...he took the words right out of ur mind.

  • Carlin sounds like a modern Oscar Wilde. "The real cynics are those who tell you everything is going to be alright" could easily have come out of his pen.

  • Carlin was a true visionary. My issue with his idea, at the end of the clip, is that I believe in those people. It might be foolish and naive to think that. But look at Gandhi, MLK and many more. I don't believe, or accept to believe, there are no more Gandhi's out there in the world. They might not get the attention that a cat riding a skateboard might get in the news media but they still do. Carlin was from an era that experienced the defeat to capitalism, i.e corporations.

  • I have finally accepted their is no hope for the human species. Fuck Hope! and good luck to this pathetic human race...go ahead with your greed. "I don't give a fuck how it all turns out" TRUE THAT.

  • He's my new hero!

  • I found no shortage of wonder at the amount of charisma that man could speak with.

  • Finally !!!!!!!! Someone who gets it- except unlike Carlin , I don't have even "personal hopes". These dumb shits actually believe that they're important enough to always have the need of other peoples attention is quite amusing. ( I'm talking about people who own cell phones- have a myspace page etc ) Let's wise up !!!!! We don't any intrinsic value. Wait , why am I even bothering with writing this - I'M OUT.

  • When I first heard this, I felt like I was hearing myself talk. I feel like at different points in my life, I've said everything George says in this video.

  • AMEN TO GEORGE

  • Elgray16 and holm81, checked those guys out. Thanks for that.

  • George!

  • He'll be missed. Carlin, Hicks and Bruce no one close to these guys. Anyone close to their type of "humour" these days?

  • @moonunit007 I wouldn't put him "up there" with those three yet but Lewis Black is pretty good. And pretty angry.

  • @moonunit007

    Doug Stanhope

  • You should check out Doug Stanhope.

  • @moonunit007 Check out Marc Maron. He's amazing

  • If a politician ever ran on a "Public Sucks, Fuck Hope" campaign, I would come out of voter retirement and vote for them.

  • Hope is a commodity for the poor masses especially in the new age.

  • Guess he wouldn't like Obama

  • I believe he thought he was a decent guy, but given the bailouts of the fianacial sector, his opinion of him would have changed quite quickly.

  • he is the ONE.

  • @yviva it's called being a comedien ,and in no way is a sociopath. it that you procived what he was saying the wrong way. if you are calling him a sociopath well then you are a nmpho-manic pervert because you masterbated to your mom's victoria secert catolog when you where 14 years old. LMAO

  • wow, that's a bizarre thing for you to say...

  • Thank you sir. You were one enlightened man. May the big electron take care of you

  • @ryahul true carlin fans are laughing their asses off my friend

  • Carlin WAS god.

  • @SleepyDario

He still is, and he always will be.

  • What is this from? One of his books?

  • This is from Brain droppings I think

  • I'd say Carlin was God, but Carlin existed.

  • Well fucking said.

    My hat's off to you.

  • @satanaonline- Whether God exists or not, really, He has nothing on Carlin; he mops the floor with God, if you wish to say that God exists, that is.

  • greatest men everrrrrr. so wise

  • This man changed my outlook on this fucked up rock we inhabit.

  • @UncleErnie71

    george would say

the rock you're talking about is not fucked up, the people are :)

  • @UncleErnie71 As George used to say "The planet is fine, the people are fucked!"

  • @UncleErnie71 i know! hes changed my life forever

  • You were able to post a sarcastic youtube comment? I'm surprised you were able to think of one, I didn't know you had a brain.

  • I was just wondering that (what he said after P.S)

  • We're all fucked. It helps to remember that. ~~ RIP Carlin

  • First thought that came into my mind: Sounds like sometthing God would say (I mean, being HOPELESSLY DISAPPOINTED in what he thought was going to be his greatest creation...man). As for George Carlin, I think he's ALMOST always correct in everything he says, & was one of the BRAVEST guys around!!!

  • It's like hearing myself think!

  • I still think this man spoke more truth than EVERYONE.

  • George Carlin wants us to question everything, including him and his statements too. I think that not everyone can and should feel as he does all the time or even at all for we are all different in some ways and if we do try to accept everything he says, it is the same sh*t he does not want us to do.

so the message here is in general means.

  • i would argue against that statement but i just dont give a fuck. lol.

  • hahaha

  • he probably doesn't care if anyone thinks hes weak

  • but he surely outsize your fucking brain

  • Comment removed

  • You can't be an optimist with out lying to yourself.

  • No everything gets done

  • Knowing whats really going on and not being in denial...." thinking "

  • its too fucked up now to care about.

  • Nothing gets done. Period.

  • Comment removed

  • All I see are huge bullshit paragraghs about bullshit on this goddamn video. GEORGE CARLIN WOULDNT WANT THIS. If any of you are actually George Carlin fans you wouldnt be debating anything. George himself even says in this video how he hates that. Just chill and relax, and listen to what this great man hasto say.

  • I disagree

  • Amen, brother.
