My 22 year old brother Jeff Charlton Died in this tragic accident....family went through hell, only son in the family and was the light of my life......one of the last to be pulled out...what ended to be a tragic 52 hours!!..Life has never been the same! R.I.P.
My 2 sisters....both aged in their early 20's on January 18th,1977 had just driven off the bold street bridge and were just turning onto Parramatta road on their way to open up our little T/away in North Parramatta when all of a sudden they heard a huge BANG!!!
I too rember this tragic disaster and those who perished. It saddens me to think that we can only learn how to "better" things thru the loss of life...very sad indeed!
Rip to the 83 and blessings to all whos lives were change on that fatal day.
I know a train driver who was a driver in the Blue Mountains at the time and was going passenger on this train to Sydney Terminal where he was going to take a train to Lithgow but luckily he was in one of the rear carriges which were not hit. He doesn't talk about it much, i had to find out about him being on that train of a co-worker of his.
I remember being a young kid and watching the rescue efforts all night - its something that sticks with you forever. May all that lost their lives rest in peace
I lived in Blacktown on the fatal line and our neighbour used to catch that same train every weekday (fast train from the blue mountains), however he had a leg injury and was running late and just missed that train, would have been sitting in the fatal carriages. Unbelieveable. True Story.
When dad got home he never discussed his job but he walked to the bedroom, mum went in & shut the door.We listened out in the hall as dad told mum of a man with the bridge on him,dad was talking to him and they all knew he was going to die once the bridge lifted.Dad sobbed as he told mum & we all looked at eachother as we'de never heard him cry before.None of us listened any more, none of us said a thing.Dad was 47 then, the same as me now,I thought dad was old then. I often think of that day.CONT
I was born in 1975 in Penrith. My dad used to commute to the city every morning from Penrith station.
He'd get the bus to Penrith station every morning. For some odd reason he was running late this particular morning and he almost missed his normal train, but just caught it in time!
My mum was worried sick once she heard the news, only to discover he'd caught the very train before the fatal train.
I'm now 34 years old with two healthy parents and many memories to share, how grateful I am.
I'm born in 1982, lived in Adelaide all my life. Never really heard of this disaster. But as a father and family man I feel for anyone involved. It sucks that this type of stuff has to happen for us to be better educated and improve our ways of safety etc.
Well Done to the people who created this and to those who lost loved ones my sincerest condolences and I hope when you meet them in heaven it will be rewarding for all.
And a job well done to all people who were there and cared for the people.
my dad was in class at Granville Boys School down the road from this bridge and they actually didn't know what had happened till after school.
The reason it happened was the bad design of how close the train was to the stilt of the bridge. so when the train derailed about 10 cm into the air and nicked it it simply collapsed
My father was in the Granville Crash, and lucky enough to be a survivor. I still recall the day it happened, and the horrific stories and sights that dad relayed to us. My dad now is a father of 6, and grandfather to 21 and great grandfather to 2 kids. If he hadn't have survived Granville, he would have never seen his family grow to the size it has.
True All the Hero' s Of Granville Should Never Be FOrgoten, Evan at the age of 21 I have a huge amount Of Respect for the People who risked there own lives to save the Lives of the people On the Train, today as I look at the City rail timetable there is now no 6.09am from Mt Victoria as a Blue Mountains Guy Born and Raised in the Mountains in blaxland the closest Train crash I've been to is the Glenbrook one in 1999 (which I was On)
on that day there were many heroes ,people like the police, fire brigade, ambos and many ordinery people who blended as one to help the injured and the dieing. GOD BLESS YOU ALL
ON THIS THE 31ST ANNIVERSARY OF THE GRANVILLE TRAIN DESASTER
