  • CRYING EVERY TIME.

  • @ptolover7 I think the Albulm is coming out sometime this month. Not sure what countries and stuff though, but that's what I read. Either way I think the music is awesome!

  • SHERLOCK! •,__,•

  • Does anyone know what the name of this song is in the background? I'm trying to get my favorite bits of the Sherlock soundtrack but I don't know what this one's called.

  • He jumps and he lands. I re-watched the episode and realized that John's assassin has a clear view of where Sherlock lands. It might be a mistake in editing, but he does fall on the ground. I'm going with a theory that he's half cat, half Vulcan.

  • 0:08 - DOM DOM!!!!

  • Did anyone notice that this is the second time Sherlock tries to kill himself, and the second time John calls out his name from afar? Only this time, John can't do anything to save him. I know that Sherlock survives in the end, but this thought still makes me sad.

  • Even though I knew what was going to happen, I cried like a baby!!!

  • Could anyone tell me what's the song that starts when Sherlock aims to jump?

  • @Jemmhful It's called "prepared to do anything." It's on the Sherlock season two soundtrack that was released on the 27th of February. (Which is when I got it. And according to iTunes, I've already played that song 64 times in two days. The whole album is brilliant.)

  • @BananasAreEvil66 Thank you so much, I think I'll go and listen that album. (:

  • HOW? HOW DOES HE SURVIVE?!

  • The final episode airs here this Wednesday. Everybody in my class is raving about the series so far, and it's been unbearable to have to keep THIS from them!!

  • ... Ok, now back to cheerier clips so I won't have to cry myself to sleep tonight.

  • :'(

  • So sad when Watson yells "SHERLOCK" in vain :(

  • You can see Sherlock really doesn't want to leave John. It's so heartbreaking!

  • What happened:

    1. Sherlock organises Molly and Irene to drive the truck to the place where he jumps.

    2. M+I put out a crash mat behind truck so John and snipers cant see.

    3. Sherlock jumps into crashmat and puts a ball under his arm+fake blood

    4. Holmeless society member crashes into watson on bike and gives john baskerville drug

    5. Molly organises paramedics to come instantly and take Sherlock away so he can make it escape.

  • It was the best episode :D Now I waiting for new season :)

  • That has to be one of the most helpless feelings in the world, watching someone fall. D:

  • I AM SHERLOCKED FOREVER !!!!

  • I think I just died.

  • ... Now we have to wait until next year for the new season. I'm not surviving :'(

  • @AnnoyedGirlKami Summer of '13. Meanwhile Martin and Benny are off in Middle Earth together.

  • @AuditoryEden THE SUMMER!!!???? DEAR LORD! I DON'T KNOW IF I CAN MAKE IT!!!!!! DX DX I WANT THE NEW ONES NOOOOOOOOOOWWWWWWWWWWWW. DX I WANT TO SEE JOHN'S REACTION WHEN HE FINDS OUT THAT SHERLOCK ISN'T DEAD!!! DX Okay...sorry about the yelling. I knew it was coming out in 2013, but I thought it would be in January. *le creys*

  • SH: Goodbye, John.

    JW: Nope.jpg

  • I hope the make another season! Well if you want to call a 3 part series a season. And YES i know there was 3 part earlier then this as well.

  • The earpiece is probably something they just used on set to communicate as this scene was in such a big area...easier for the director etc..?

  • JOHN HAS AN EARPIECE?!?!?! 0:19

  • @BluePanda13971 WHAT DOES IT MEAN?!?!?!

  • The music is killing!

    And I love John's "Sherlock!" <3

  • I cannot get enough of this scene...I love how at 0:08, the epic suspenseful music comes on.

  • The earpiece is definively strange... He isn't wearing it at any other moments in the series. Is this the famous detail that Moffat was talking about?!

    :mind blown:

  • Didn't he have a hearing aid from his time in afghan? Or am I getting confused? :s

  • 0:20 WHY IS JOHN WEARING AN EARPIECE?

  • 0:20 WHY IS JOHN WEARING AN EARPIECE?

  • @pokemaniac321 Did you see the thing on tumblr too? I had to come here to check if the earpiece really was there or not. I hope it means something, but I have no idea what.

  • @SideshowMomo The world of Sherlock Tumblr has brought me here also...

  • Holy crap! did anyone else notice the earpiece in John's ear at 00:20!!! It falls out of his ear when he gets knocked over so i think it's part of the story and not just a mistake!!

  • @pokemaniac321 u seriously might have just found a missing piece of the puzzle that is sherlocks fake death.....or a gadget error.

  • 0:05: Sherlock's sad little nod. As if to say; "I'm ready now." Jesus. ;_;

  • i am crying now! (even when i know he's alive) And i am ELEVEN !

  • "In your last few seconds, what would you say?"

    "Goodbye, John."

    TT.TT

  • oh god, when john yells "sherlock" up at him. they are both so amazing in this scene, but martin really shows watson's desperation and terror. Brilliant.

  • @cerise the trucks below might have had something to do with it

  • @cerise333 hey that actually makes sense... Nice theory, i thought the

  • Remember David Burke yelling after Holmes, now this guy after Sherlock. Cruel.

  • Benedict's eyes are blue (google it), but they can vary in the color they appear to be from dark green to light grey. Either way I think we can all agree he has gorgeous eyes. Now excuse me while I crawl into a corner from this clip.

  • Winterwhisper- I believe his eyes are blue. I saw pictures of him on imdb, and his eyes were blue. (But then, they looked gray in "The Blind Banker.") So, I guess it depends on the light...

  • This episode is so angsty, I'm glad I got to see it. (And the soundtrack for season one is being released in the U.S. On March 27th. I have no idea at this time of the release date in the U.S. for the season two soundtrack).

  • teehee I just want to ruin your fun ....

    *SPOILER ALERT*

Sherlock had his friend Molly use the corpse Moriarty used to scare the children thrown out of a van that was passing by, he fell inside the van and his friend Molly pushed the corpse out of it to make it seem like he had died...

    *END OF SPOILER*

  • @cerise333 Actually to ruin YOUR fun, Steven Moffat said that people are off when they are talking about body-swapping, so Sherlock may actually have been injured, but not fatally enough so that he couldn't recover.

  • @MsDanioDanio Well then what is your theory ms Danio? Is he a clone???

  • I never thought that a telephone conversation could be so emotional... It's incredible!! Extraordinary actors!!

  • Jesus. That *crack* when he hits the pavement. 0_0

  • QUESTION: What colour are Benedict's eyes! Seriously! Gray? Blue? I swear I've even seen them when they were closer to green too!

  • @WinterWhisper They're probably gray, since gray eyes tend to look like they change color depending on the light.

  • Oh look!! A Phonebooth!!! OH Steven we love you!!

  • @spideyfanatic93 no, that cellphone thing isn't really suspicious. What would have been suspicious is if he had PLACED the phone down carefully, but he just tossed it.

  • "falling is just like flying, exept there's a more permanent destination."

although it's from moriarty, this line is kinda beautiful.

  • *sniff*

  • Okay. Here's my theory. In the episode, Moriarty uses a Sherlock mask in order to turn the kidnapped children against him. So I'm guessing that Sherlock found the mask, took a bag of blood that he got from Molly, taped it to the side of his head, then slipped the mask over it. Then, when he jumped he landed on something soft, and then proceeded to roll off of or out of hit, hitting the ground hard enough that the blood bag bursted. Then, the biker hit John to disorient him.

  • @spideyfanatic93 While John was disoriented, the people gathered around Sherlock to prevent him from getting too close to the body. Now, John does check his pulse and finds that he can't detect it, but this could be explained by several things. Firstly, I've heard theories that Sherlock used the ball he was playing with, tucking it under his arm to cut the circulation from the arm that John would check his pulse from. I'm not sure if that could actually work.

  • @spideyfanatic93 But it could've also been some sort of medication to slow his pulse that Molly could've had access to that was administered either before the fall, or whenever Sherlock landed on whatever he landed on before hitting the ground. Then, Sherlock was carted into the hospital and Molly declared him deceased. But later she helped smuggle him out of the hospital. That's my theory anyway. I'm probably way off, but that's the only way I can figure it out.

  • @spideyfanatic93 Another interesting thing that seems suspicious to me is when he throws his cell phone aside before jumping. I feel like that's definitely a giveaway that he was going to survive, because he obviously didn't want the cell phone breaking during the fall. I'm not sure how it connects to the rest of it though.

  • @spideyfanatic93 i think he left it there for john to find it. that there is some kind of explanation on the phone, maybe he recorded his dialogue with moriarty or typed a message or anything.

Or he wants to lead john to moriarty's body.

  • At 0:24, it seems that his body hits the ground different from the way he was falling from the roof. Also, the way his body seems to move at 0:24 makes it look like he rolled off of or out of something, and maybe the cracking sound was the sound of a blood bag being broken.

  • @spideyfanatic93 That's why he needed Molly's help, to get a bag of his own blood. And also to declare him dead even though he wasn't.

  • Until the next season, all we can do is rewatch this scene hundreds of times, analyze every second and theorize how Sherlock survived that jump.

  • @GamagothRULES my theory is, it has something to do with Molly or that screaming girl XD

  • this scene was made so much more amazing by john's line earlier in the show, correcting Sherlock by saying "friends protect people." this proved that Sherlock really does have people that he counts as friends, in his own bizarre way - and he jumped to protect them.

  • sherlock throwing away his mobile phone just before he jumps - the one gadget he´s never without - what a powerful, meaningful gesture. good-bye to life. (at least to the one he was leading up to this point.)

  • even though i know he lives, this whole scene is so heart wrenching! T_T

  • @bookmaniac2013 isn´t it? i nearly stopped breathing. i´m so, so, so sorry for both of them.

  • where can i find the music when he drops the phone?

  • @RukiaWrath13 The soundtrack for series 2 is suppose to come out on the 27th Feb I think :)

  • music?

  • do you remember there was a man hanging in john and sherlock's house, when john takes sherlock's phone and tells him moriarty's back? well i'm now wondering if it has anything to do with sherlock faking his death. because i cant help but still dont know what it was doing, hanging in their apartment, just like it was a decorative object!

  • @imcitizenginsburg It was explained in the dialogue - Sherlock took John's advice to solve "a little case", and was proving that someone from the 20th century never committed suicide by hanging.

The dummy could come back in the next episode, if they base it off "The Empty House"...

  • * then don't scroll down I mean

  • Below is my theory of how sherlock survived if you don't want to read it and want to wait and see then scroll down

I think Sherlock threw moriartys body off the building and somehow replaced him on the ground when people came over then he got Molly to help him leave the morgue and change the paperwork coz he said he "needed" Molly in this ep

    I love Sherlock !

  • "I want to wait a few years before going back to Sherlock..." - Steven Moffat.

For your sake, I hope you don't because the fans will murder you in your sleep... twice.

  • Comment removed

  • i know how he survives heheheheh

  • I used to be a consulting detective. Then I took a sidewalk to the face.

  • Can't believe Benedict actually did this fall himself and didn't have a stunt double do it. Such dedication. 3

  • Mark Gatiss and Steven Moffat, you better hurry (tf) up, or else----------

  • Last night I had a dream that Mark Gatiss and Steven Moffat told me the secret to how Sherlock survived - I don't remember much of it, but when I woke up this morning, I screamed, "HE HAD A HARPOON!!!!!!!" .......

    What??!

  • @daffodil977 thank u so much for posting that...

i am in the PUBLIC CROWDED LIBRARY watching this, nearly crying that sherlock did that, and u got me 2 laugh instead....

    THANK U SO MUCH!!!!!

  • @ichinezabushigo Aww you're welcome honey. I definitely needed a laugh after watching this episode too :'( oh sherlock why do you do this to us?

  • Oh, Jesus... this next year is going to be hard. I want answers so bad.

  • Imagine if the world did end in December 2012 like they predict & no one ever found out how this was done....Man would I be pissed, ok I'd be dead, but y'know...

  • @LetMeFlyFreeFromYou oh god i think i would come back from the dead and die again.

  • Does anyone know the name of the soundtrack playing in this scene?

  • When I first watched this scene, I felt the greatest feeling of dread well up inside of me. I starting crying cause I knew what was going to happen, but what really got me was when he started telling John he was a fake. I literally said, out loud, "Please no. Stop. Stop! Oh God please! Nooooooo!" and started sobbing. I HATE when, not only does a hero give up his life to save the people he cares about, but also destroys all the good memories of himself before he does it. WHY????

  • It was the music before this scene that made me cry. When he's lying to John and telling him he's a fake. Wept. Like. A. Baby.

  • That sickening crunch when he lands gets me every time

  • "Goodbye John." - Gets me every time! :'(

But has anyone noticed that when he's falling, you can see a white shirt from where his jacket opens from the wind, but he was wearing 'The Purple Shirt of Sex' before his fell/when he was on the floor?

  • WHY WOULD YOU POST SOMETHING LIKE THIS

  • "That's what people do, dont they?....Leave a note?" Thats the line that got me. It was so sad. I cried within the first minute of this episode. It was horrid, but the best Sherlock episodes out of the 6. Hounds of Baskerville was REALLY good too. <3 #IBelieveInSherlock #MoriartyWasReal

  • For once Sherlock didn't text.

  • @ultamatefrogmaster .....or DID he but we didnt see that yet? possibly to his ground crew below to catch him: NOW! drops phone jumps to truck of bags..molly throws random corpse outta her morge into the street with a sherlock plaster face on it & random bloody areas so when john looks for a pulse it s dead. meanwhile the flat truck iwth garbage bags rolls away with sherlock alive & well lying in it to hide.

  • @ultamatefrogmaster I seriously think hat this is important. I thought they would transmit that letter that Holmes left Watson in the original to a text message, but they didn't. What do you think it means?

  • @MyLillteFallenAngel Well, a theory that my friends have come up with is that John has actually been exposed to the gas that he was exposed to in Hounds of the Baskerville. So because John expected Sherlock to jump off, he actually saw him jump off. Sherlock probably phoned him instead of texted because he wanted to create a scenario so visual that John would actually think he's dead.

Also, earlier in the episode he asks Molly to help him out but we never find out what with.

  • @ultamatefrogmaster exactly the kind of OOC thing that shows it was fake.

  • Why is Sherlock's face sort of flat before he jumps? Maybe it's not even Sherlock jumping and he's just wearing a mask!

  • @ActionEditor3 Ive been thinking the exact same thing, his face looks weird there doesnt it.

  • Hmm, am i the only one who thinks he is higher off the gound in the shot before he lands than he should be? Let me know what you think.

  • The papers have actually had Detectives, Scientists & Doctors trying to work this out. They've even measured the building, worked out the speed he would fall etc. They've all established no one would survived that fall. So to those saying he survived using drugs etc i think its safe to say experts have said he wouldnt and im sure the writers can come up with something better than him simply suriving the fall...

  • I'm sorry but when I saw him fall, I thought of the Leap of Faith. .-.

  • lol

  • This is the best wire rig in the history of film and television. It's better and more realistic than the ones in Mission Impossible! (and the ones in M:I are very good!)

  • Oh God, this part makes me so sad :( there are so many versions of this scene, but this one makes me cry the most

  • If you read the next story it tells you what happens to sherlock and how he faked his death.

    THE STORY IS...THE EMPTY HOUSE

  • God. I hate John's face when Sherlock is falling. Its like No. Its not possible. Sherlock cannot be falling. No.

  • @ScienceOfDeduction1 It is very much a kind of "No, this isn't happening, I don't wanna see what happens next" look...

  • Jesus,I had no idea it was going to be so...graphic. Oh....the crunch when he hit the pavement.

  • I can't stop thinking that the words IOU got some meaning that all of us keep missing...

  • @zlatickoxt

    Exactly what I was thinking!

But maybe as an abbreviation, like H.O.U.N.D.?

  • @zlatickoxt

An IOU (abbreviated from the phrase "I owe you") is usually an informal document acknowledging debt, And a debt is something you have to pay (for)

Therefore i assume Moriarty uses this as a threat against Sherlock, because he has beaten him a few times, now M wants to beat him.

  • the only explanation i can think of is the fact that he mentioned that rhododendron leaf earlier in the episode (which makes ur heart rate go down) AND the little girl screamed when she saw him, but he didn't commit the crime. so a combo of those 2. in the mean time....HOW THE HELL?

  • People can try and figure out how he lived and such but I know one thing for sure (I stopped trying only because it was driving me up the wall),

The first episode in Series 3 is going to be such a mindf***k!!

  • @HiShampoo

My thought is that he calculated the risk of jumping there, and what it would do to him.

and since he was in front of a hospital.. he could go to IC right away.

  • Whats the music at 0:10?

  • what the soundtrack??

  • can i just take a moment to say that the music gets unbelievably epic when Sherlock puts down the phone?

  • @HBearAA I think the drum beats are representing his heartbeat. I agree it's AWESOME! XD

  • @HBearAA yep got the heart going big time

  • @HBearAA Does anyone have an mp3 for it? I would love you forever!

  • How he survived: lets see if u clever clogs can understand this for i will give you two clues...

Muscle relaxants and sherlock was the one to choose the roof for the showdown...

  • @horesybabe12 I think it was ok the roof with moriarty he acted dumb

  • @thecrazyevilleaf Ah, quite possibly!

  • Every time I watch this; my eyes widen and my hands go to my mouth and I kind of whimper XD Better than the first time I saw it. I seem to recall literally screaming at the telly "YOU CAN'T DO THIS TO ME!" like a deranged ol' spinster :')

  • Is playing with a ball unusual for Sherlock? Because in one scene, just before he went to the roof, he was bouncing a ball, while thinking...It seemed unusual, though easy to look over...

  • @MrNonsensicle

lol, makes me think of G. House. xD He sometimes plays with things while thinking. (completely unrelated, sorry~ xD)

  • Comment removed

  • @MrNonsensicle Doesn't a ball in armpit make it seem like your pulse had stopped? When Watson checks Sherlock's pulse, he could have had the ball in his armpit....

  • See, I read an interview with Steven Moffat and he said he's read the theories flying around and said that we're missing something. Something that Sherlock does that is completely out of character. Any ideas?

  • @HorseyBabe12 him crying maybe?

  • @evilbonni That's what I thought. But I don't know how it would affect things..

  • @HorseyBabe12 yes that's the problem! MOFFAT! *shakes fist*

  • @evilbonni don't think that's it. He doesn't like the way John reacts to what he said. ("Nobody could be that clever"-"You could.") John trusts him so much and he knows he's going to betray him.

  • here's a clue, methinks.

at 0:19, 0:21 and 0:23 of this clip, you can see that the person falling is wearing a light-coloured shirt.

in that scene at bart's lab where john calls him a machine and where jim texts him to say that he's there, sherlock was wearing his purple shirt.

if you go to the "god, no" vid by MsSherLocked, you'll see that the body that gets flipped over on the ground is also dressed in a purple shirt.

  • The noise of bones cracking... eek!

  • @amirizar2012 I don't recall any cracking skulls in Empty Child.

    You know what that means?

IT MEANS I HAVE THE PERFECT EXCUSE TO WATCH IT AGAIN. And then watch reichenban too, for science!

  • what's the soundtrack?

  • Comment removed

  • @amirizar2012

(psst, you shouldn't tell people that you know what a cracking skull sounds like. It might lead them to the right conclusions....)

  • He jumped in a right angle to the building ( facing forward ) but he landed parallel to the building. Why?

  • @YerFaceMateZz EXACTLY.

  • @YerFaceMateZz You are assuming the Sherlock we see falling and the Sherlock we see on the ground are the same.

Hint: we never see him land. (We see him fall, and we see him bouncing on the ground, but not all in one take.)

Make what you will from it.

  • @aureusyarara

True, but where could he have gone O.o? If he was to jump into the truck he would have leapt a considerable distance away from the building! Where else could he go though?

  • @YerFaceMateZz

I take it you've never watched Death Note, have you?

(Not that I'm saying he could have used the same trick, because he coudn't, he was falling to far to be caugh on a mattress and snuck inside through the window of the first floor.)

The truck could have been on the sidewalk. (Doubtful)

There also could have been an inflatable mattress that was quickly deflated and put IN the truck to be taken away, possibly with Sherlock also. (Hmmmm.)

    Any ideas?

  • @aureusyarara

Yeah maybe. But I feel we are both wrong. It would be something very simple I think.

  • This is so heartbreaking...(( But I can't really understand why there is a shadow of Sherlock in the window on 0:22 if he falls above that window... How is this possible? (Anyone as paranoic as me??)

  • Look, it's Bilbo Baggins!!

  • I've watched this so many times and when the body hits the ground it sounds to me like when you break or squeeze a plastic bottle...he lands on something....?

  • There is simple and elegant answer how did he survived. But we don't see it and we look like idiots. I love Show for this.

  • HOW CAN HE POSSIABLY SURVIVED! Ok now that thats out the way obviously glad he did but I never really noticed the angles it was shot from first time round and they made it pretty clear he fell and there was no where to make a quick escape. Now I shall just be driven mad with curiously all year thank christ I'm not a cat

  • Comment removed

  • then maybe I have not watched the whole episode

the last scene I saw him falling and remaining lands :)

  • @RenamonIntergirl87

"The Final Problem" was a very straightforward entry in the original Holmes canon. it was basically just a chase scene, short, sweet, and to the point. It gives much room for interpretation and the makers of this show did a fantastic job in capturing the intensity of the feud, the intelligence of Moriarty, the craftiness of Sherlock, and the relationship between the two. If you haven't seen this full episode then gtfo with ignorant comments kthxbye

  • never committed suicide and never Moriarty was shot in the head

  • @RenamonIntergirl87 In the original story Moriarty died and Sherlock faked his own death by falling.

In the show Moriarty died and Sherlock faked his own death by falling.

I don't see how they ruined it :P

  • @JamieHowitt Actually, in the books Sherlock never fell - that's just what Watson thought happened. In The Empty House, Holmes reveals only Moriarty ever fell into the Reichenbach Falls, while he managed to escape.

Not that I'm saying they ruined it - they didn't! I loved this episode/ending! :)
