I am sick of people saying that Pete needs to be with Chicago.. It is sad that the "group" forced him out.. To the band members that do not like the fans... Screw them.. The Fans buy the records and go to the shows.. Isn't that enough... If you do not like the fans then it is time get off the road.. I too and glad Peter left....
There will always be different opinions about Peter's decision to leave Chicago. Count me among those who are glad he did. I think he would have appreciated more attention being paid to his rock songs like Big Mistake (what a hot video) but his ballads received lots more air time and attention. I love this guy. His voice carries me away every time I listen to him sing.
And his comment at 1:09-1.14 "We were very successful, then we went downhill, and I kind of brought us back up again...". Please Pete! We all know how great and talented you are, but it was not you alone who made Chicago happen!
Given his hits - cowrote and / or sung - on 16 and 17 he has some justification for his remarks. They'd have been better off trying to keep him. Just my 2 cents.
I've read intvws where it was said that the other guys actually encouraged him to do solo stuff outside Chicago, jst like what Lamm did, since he had materials which weren't always Chicago style. But Pete always thought he wasn't that ready yet. So it's hard to believe what he said here!
Well Peter had said he never really liked the horns and the music, I think he finally realised that. So, HE wanted out, and not the other members forcing him to. And his remarks abt the group not destined to remain together? Wow, need I say more? I'm glad too HE left Chicago. With that much ego and artistic differences anyway, HE was indeed not destined to remain together with them....
Just one fan's opinion.....at the time he left, Peter Cetera brought more to the group than the other members combined. They have basically been a museum band since he left. As to whether he had an unjustified ego, well, we weren't there. he certainly seems closer to his fans than many of the other members. Pankow and Lamm, for instance, have all but said they don't like fans.

I agree with jimkingwood. I always thought Pankow had the big ego. It seemed inevitable someone was going to leave.

Hard to believe what PETER said? Given what I have read of Lamm's / Pankow's remarks in the past I'll give Peter a close listen.
I'm glad he left Chicago.
