  • very nice playing ...I love

  • I love all your covers! Could you ever do Duran Duran's Reflex?

  • Nicely played! Love the Decade too.

  • I just recommended this bassline to you and I see you recorded it a couple of years ago. Great minds think alike.

Best bassline in pop music, ever. Nice job!

  • u are very beautiful!!

  • Song from your childhood? This tune is from my childhood too, and I have to say that you look a good bit younger than I do. Ah well, that is of no consequence. I enjoy your play, well done!

  • Great job.I learned it from that same article. It's time I uploaded something new.

  • your house is beautiful!

  • u are gooood!! im learning how to play the bass line for that song too......it looks very complicated

  • your fingers a pefect and nice and long to play bass great job!!!!!

  • lady you're awesome!

  • Yo, awesome groove. . .!

  • Ahh, a girl playing bass and fingerstyle at that! I'd be in love if she didn't have a ring on her finger, haha!

  • is that debra from everybody loves raymond could play bass.

  • WOW great stuff, i have been playing for a few months and sometimes i wanna give up, but when i see this it makes me want to practice even more....EXCELLENT work, are you on TALKBASS? you are a really good player.....thanks for sharing, and i am glad that there are some self taught players out there that can really play, again thanks for some great playing.

  • @MARKLINMAN1 Thanks for the compliments.

Yes I am on TalkBass. It's a great site. I learn a lot from members there.

  • Very Good!! :)

  • sweet , Prince loves a lakland playing hottie so look out !!

  • What type of amp and strings do you use? I am on the verge of getting a Decade myself & really like the sound you are getting!

  • @ladyamythyst69, I'm using whatever strings came on the bass. I never change strings unless one breaks, then I change the set. I really don't care what strings I use. That's just me.

I'm using a Fender 400 pro amp with two 10s and a horn. I really like my amp.

Good luck on your new Decade. It's a very unique bass, great sound.

  • Very nice job! Awesome bass too.

  • Your playing is beautiful! So precise. I like that Lakland Decade, too! :-)

I've always loved that bassline.........nice, nice job!

  • I love your feel on the chorus- it's east to rush through those octaves and turn it into a faux disco bass line.

  • Nice cover, and I wanted to ask, how do you like your Lakland in comparison to your MM and P bass? Youtube videos aren't the best for comparing sound, and no shops around me carry the Decade or any other Laklands.

  • Your A MONSTER!!! SOOO good lol, how do you have a new bass like every video?? keep on keepin' on ~ Jon

  • This is a great cover! I am in the market for a bass, the decade is #1 on my list. What do you think of the bass?

  • definitely in my top 5 pop songs of all time ... just a genius song ...who wrote it , those guys from Mowtown ?

  • Wow, you're walking and playing is so good! I'm a self taught bass player, and i cant walk to save my life. Any suggestions?

  • @LilGuhAirEe Thanks for the kind compliment.

    I'm self taught too.

The best advice anyone ever gave me was to use my pinky until it felt as strong as my other fingers.

I know at first it's difficult because it feels weak, but stick with it.

That has really helped me to move around the fretboard with confidence.

  • One of the greatest basslines in any song imo. After months of playing the bass i still cant touch this one, well that goes for most of the Jackson 5 songs.

  • You're hot! We need more ladies playing bass like this!

  • what kind of bass is it? :)

  • @Razze5 It's a Lakland Decade USA (passive)

  • @Honda599Girl cool :) I have a Ibanez K5 :P good played btw :) I lerned the song from your video to an consert we had :)

  • @Razze5 I'm honored that you used my video to learn the line.

I learn a lot of lines by watching others on YouTube too. It makes me happy if I can share what I have learned.

    Thanks for letting me know.

  • @Honda599Girl what do you know, maby some day you will use my video for a song you want to lern :P. Sure I will share. You welcome

  • @Honda599Girl You are awesome...I too learn a lot from YouTube.

  • damn good!

Your a hell of a good bass player, girl;)

  • LOVE IT! =] =]

  • Good job. I was just wondering how you like the Lakland Decade Bass? I am thinking about buying one but I can't seem to find any sound samples being played pick style.

  • Damn Good, woman! God Bless.

  • At 0:25 you're getting funky! And I like it!!!!:D.

  • Great tone and feel.

  • PLEASE MAKE ANOTHER VIDEO

  • can i have the love you save tabs

  • You know, I've been trying to learn this song with limited success for years. I never made any real progress until I found your video. Thanks so much, I think I've got it!

  • Thanks for sharing that with me kamapuaa666.

I'm glad my video was helpful to you.

It took me a long time to be able to play this song all the way through. It,s physically pretty challenging.

  • I love how relxed your style is.. nice stuff.. especially on the left hand !

  • Rockin out sista! Keep it up.

  • Holy shit a WOMEN!

  • I've listened to quite a few people 'having a go' at covering bass lines on youtube and I think you play so much clearer than any of the others....wonderful!

  • you are a superb player! great job!

  • Wilton Felder in a pony tail! Go girl. Keep 'em comin. PLEASE.

  • Play that bassline......THAT IS SWEET! Ive been wantin to learn bass. I already am a drummer and did play cello...but quit. And I can do a little bit on piano...at least to know the notes go from A to G and start at A again etc....But this is sweet!

  • good work! i just covered this one myself too! you sound terrific.

  • as always awesome sound!

  • u r a great player . you rock!

  • she rocks the beat

  • awesome! i have that issue of bass player lol. My fav MJ tune.

  • way to go!!!

  • WOW!!!!!!!!! loved every second of it.

  • youre too good... i loved every second of this

  • Hey there, you're a great bass player and I'm trying to learn this song by watching you (rewind/replay) it. Is your guitar tuned down a half step? Although the first note you play is a G# ( heavy E, 4th fret), it sounds like a G...

  • Hi bfgt423,

Thank you for your kind words.

You're right that the first note is A flat.

I'm playing in standard tuning, not sure why it sounds a half step down to you.

  • u make the bass sound so good

  • one can hear you practiced a lot

    keep it up.

  • This is an USA version of the Lakland Decade right?

    Nice playing!

  • Yes, it's a Decade USA. Thanks :)

  • haha i love how u can play this like perfect haha my small hands wont reach that far that fast haha

  • is that a lakland decade? :O :)

  • Yes it is.

  • smooth playing! what kind of bass is that?

  • Nice bass! How much did you pay for it?

    thxs

  • I love this!

  • Niiice! One of my all time favorite bass lines. And one of the more involved lines to come out of Motown. Wilton hooked this one up! This song is the first song the Jacksons recorded West Coast. Joe Sample (a fellow Crusader member) played keys on this too.

BTW...I have a thing for Women bass players...LOL

  • good but u need to turn the gain down a bit

  • its not gain i dont think, its just the way the camera picked up the sound

  • You're right Tim,

The distortion is probably caused by the camera's mic.

I'm just using an old Sony DCR-TRV340 to pick up the sound.

I think it did a pretty good job considering how much low end it had to handle.

  • 1:38 - 1:47 that was awesome. u were really gettin it lol

  • Thanks SuperWiirules,

i was feeling rather ambitious at that point.

Feeling all overconfident with myself, I stumble and get behind on the front portion of the bridge......but I catch up and keep going.

    Never stop no matter what.

  • aight you got skillz some for learnin the song but i know that i couldnt learn this song on my four string i had to learn this on my five string

  • you are so good...it almost makes me wanna play bass but im a trumpet type of girl...im 13

  • great playing but I always heard the second note of the intro as b natural (minor third over the major chord) not a b flat?

  • feverhut,

    You're right !!!

I listened to again more closely and it is a B natural. (blush)

    Great catch. Thanks.

  • damn this is tight

  • I love this and you other post on " stop the love you save". I play keyboard and came across your video while trying to figure out the bass line. I hear it so clear. You are a beast girl! Keep it up!!

  • yay! girls can play bass! (although your hands are much bigger than mine, sadly...that's my biggest problem)

  • there are smaller scale basses!

  • and you don't have to stretch your left hand to place one-finger-per-fret! (guitar fingering) upright bassists use a comfortable fingering method. also playing open strings (open position) will make you regret that you never started sooner! and if you have the cash, find a teacher just for position lessons.

Tarnation! why wait for spring? do it...

  • Hi CJL, with respect I think the one finger per fret style is in fact best for electric bass & most pro players adopt this style (lots of examples here on YouTube), the "three finger" method you mention is used by upright players largely because the force needed to fret the notes requires the third finger to press down on top of the pinkie for extra support, this is not required with electric bass.

Also, open strings are great but in certain keys not an option, as in this example which is in Ab

  • i tried to let KatBeee know that there are alternatives available to her. if i had small hands in comparison to a regular scale electric bass, i would certainly purchase a small scale bass such as a Mustang and enjoy it. (actually i would save up and have one custom made for my hands, but i'm foolish on this).

  • because the third and fourth fingers share a tendon, overstretching can develop into serious inflammatory issues or severe tendonitis as time goes on requiring medication or surgery. one way is to position the thumb with respect to the centerline and pivot the hand to cover four frets. like Wes M. using his thumb vs plectrum or Chet A. wrapping his thumb over the fretboard there's many ways to skin a cat.

  • and a small hand could "mine" the open string position which works great for most keys, using different fingerings. in fact there's a lot of music in the "money section" (first 5 frets)! i'm not on a mission, but i hope is that those with smaller hands "size" their instrument, use a comfortable fingering, avoid RSI, and get started!

  • thanx for the jam...trying to learn this one and your vid is the easiest to follow with my eyes..sounds sweet m8..

  • Jermaine ain't got nothin' on you...except the 'fro.

  • anyone ever tell you that you resemble Jennifer Aniston

  • dang! honda girl you rock

  • your amazing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! wow

  • I don't know if some of the notes are right in the intro...

  • Beautiful honey i saved you--maybe i can learn the song. I've been struggling with this one.

  • can i have the tabs for this.... very good playing.........

  • You are playing the hell out of that I wish I could play an instrument.

  • Sweet Decade! What settings are you useing on the bass? Is it active?

    Thanks!

  • Thanks goomagoo, I like my bridge pickup turned up full and the neck PU about half way. The bass is passive but delivers a very dynamic tone.

  • awesome

  • かっちょいいぜ

  • Dengggg

You made the part 2:09 seem effortless

Wish I could play it that way x]

  • Great job! I envy your long fingers. I've always (well 38 years anyway) had trouble playing the top string the way you do. I make out o.k.

  • Just inspired me to learn how to play this one. 5 stars :)

  • OMG! U Are Tooo REAL!! Im an up and coming bass player.... i wanna just like u when i grow up. (im already 17) Lol... Ur Better Than My "Teacher" Lol... Whats ur name?

    Nancy

  • lol wow? you have a 17yr old? i thought you were about 17, lol you look really young

  • I just listened to all your videos. Enjoyed everyone, nice selection! I think your playing really stands out because of the feel you put into it. You can't teach that, just have to have it.

  • Thanks for your kind words Stinger.

  • can i touch you? please?

  • Nice!!!

i`d love hear the sound of the Decade without any playback, both pickups, just bridge, just neck pickup, playing with a pick...

do you have the pacience to do that???

i`m almost buying one of that..

    cheers from brazil!!!!

  • thanks for the groove missy!
