It's just a morbid joke by Hilleman; he delivers a very dry joke that the AIDS virus, which is thought to have come into the US by way of Africa, and to have originated in monkeys or chimps or something, came into the US specifically via monkeys he used for testing. That is all, unfortunately.

So, when the others in the room break out in cackling laughter, it is because he just made a "very dirty joke," so to speak. Make sense?

when i was a kid we got about 14 vaccines, with boosters. Now kids get 53 or more if you count Gardesil. And Autism these days is one in 97, if you are using the higher no. Some one in47 kids have it, boys get it more often. In 1990, it was one in 5,000.
