About how hard this piece is compared to other Prokofiev sonatas: I would say it's also greatly a matter of tempo and diction in the playing. Especially in the Scherzo and Tarantella.
Fantastic playing but sadly this isn't a very good competition piece (far from Prokofiev's usual showy stuff) for a competitor at this top level... Pieces more like the 7th and 3rd sonata are far more in order.
This is well performed. In addition, contrary to what chobeethaninov said, this is a fantastic competition piece. The 7th is played far too often (though it's great, as are the other "War Sonatas"). The 3rd can be played at this level (though it's rare--see Trifonov), but it is not quite as technically or musically demanding as the 2nd.

@GMElias2863 I would disagree. I play the 2nd sonata. It's easy. At this level you should be playing the 7th, 6th, 3rd, etc....
