If it wasn't for the refs giving Wade every f'ing call imaginable in 2006, you'd be watching highlights of Dirk's first NBA title run. Dude is a stud, and should have 2 titles under his belt...absolutely unreal what the refs did to the Mavs in the 06 finals.
why is everyone hating on KG? damn they both two of the best PF's to play the game, both got different playstyles anyway. nobody can guard dirk, so sotp using that to shit on kg
If shaq didn't way 500 lbs he'd be on the bench . Dirk Drives better , quicker , better outside shot , much better free trow shooter , better jump shot , better passer and all Shaq can do his butt guys out of the way with his size .
@franz909 granted, Dirk is pretty amazing. But if I had a choice of picking either Dirk at his best (probably these past playoffs) and Shaq at his best (let's say 2000) I'd go with Shaq. Butting guys out of the way or not, he averaged over 36 points and 17 rebounds in the 2000 finals series. That's just astounding.
I may hate the mavericks being a rockets fan but Dirk Nowitzki is playing on another planet right now. The way he played against the thunder was unbelievable. 48 points on 15 shot attempts thats freaking crazy. the fact that he is a 7 footer and can shot an outside jumper makes him virtually unguardable. This reminds of the 3 year run that Shaq was on with the Lakers in the early 2000s and Hakeem Olajuwon performance against the Spurs in 1995.
I've seen a lot of legendary conference final performances before and I never saw someone score 48 points on 15 shots, not even Jordan. Not only was Dirk extraordinarily efficient, he was doing it while hitting an array of fade away jumpers over a good defender in Ibaka. Everyone else in the league would have needed 25-30 shots to get 48 points... not Dirk. Easily the MVP and best player of the playoffs... there's nothing anyone can do to stop him form scoring.
HOLY SHIT your are a psychic - where do you knew it from? I mean I'm a Dirk fan from Germany but I really doubted that they had a chance against the stacked Miami Heat. Your prediction is reDIRKulous!!!
okay, dirk is very guard-able. There's a reason why he and the Mavericks haven't won a championship and it's because he's not a "Tough" player. He doesn't like getting his hands dirty underneath the boards and when you put a great, tough defensive on him like a shaq, garnett, or even andrew bynum, he folds because he doesn't like the physical play. I'm not trying to trash him because he is an unbelievable outside shooter, but just not a championship calibur player.
@celtslammer911 No, the reason Shaq, Garnett, and Bynum have rings is because they have superstar teammates, something Dirk has not had since Nash.
And your "physical play" comment is a joke. Dirk has an easy time scoring against Garnett, and putting a center on him is moronic, which is why you never see teams try it.
Also, his points and rebounds go UP in the playoffs, not down. So you're showing ignorance from every angle possible.
@shadyparadox His shot is literally unblockable. You have a better chance of sniffing coke with a Mermaid than stopping it. He's too tall and his arms are too long. It doesn't help either that he is a marksman. Dirk has no ring because he is missing pieces. First it was the 5. Damp and Bradley were terrible. Now that Chandler is there, they might do it. They have another deep scoring option in Peja and a nice multi-tool in Marion. Barea has also been showing up lately. I think they can do it.
@dawnoflife3 And what would you know about that word? You can't even spell it right.
Not that I should really pay attention to stupid arguments, but the Mavs have never suffered due to Dirk's defense. This season, the Mavs have the strongest zone defense in the league, and it's largely due to what Dirk contributes. But you probably won't understand that; it involves advanced concepts like strategy, instead of cool sounding words like toughness.
@dawnoflife3 Well, it's actually spelled "defenSe". Oh, and I suggest you check the stats whenever Dirk and Garnett plays against each other. Dirk is Garnett's daddy!
@jan279 gotta agree with this one. I've been a Nash fan since 2001 and even I can attest to this statement of him being just an all star during his Mavs days. He truly came into his own and cemented his superstar status when he went to the Suns.
Dirk is NOT one dimensional.... he can shoot from anywhere, he can post-up, he can drive, he's among the best in getting to the FT line, he's been a top 15 scorer in the last 10 years (over 21,000 points and counting), he's among the best passing big-men in the last 10 years, he's been a top 10 in defensive rebounds in the last 10 years, he's made numerous clutch plays and game-winners, and plays good defense. He's done pretty much everything (except NBA title), to secure a place in the HOF.
Get the ball near the free-throw line, post up, crap dribble a little bit, fakes a turn, pull-up and shoot. Easy, that's all Dirk does. BUT WAIT... WHY CAN'T I EVER STOP HIM?!
i am a big phoenix suns´ fan from spain and i enjoyed so much that year, but at the end dallas was too much, we were short-handed against a very deep and powerful roster....the first two rounds it worked but nowitzki was superb in "swing game 5" and they get it done on the road.
This year we had another oportunity, i think the suns had a great season and post season....
and for the next season amare will leave the team, so a very difficult loss
never seen Dirk miss a free trow! lol This would have and should have been our year if it wasn't for D-whistle shooting 800 free throws a game and being called a superstar. Bitch please! Put Dirk at the line 800 times and he'll be 800-800 at the end of the game!
Winning MVP's is actually harder than winning Championships. It's an individual award, only reserved for the BEST. Dirk is one of the best ever. Very few play at his level, and fewer still display classy personality (humble, funny, and simple) like he does. No need to be in DA HOOD or something.
@Raford146 no, cause when lebron isn't a to good shooter and you can foul him hard a few times to stop him going to the hoop all the time, but you just can't do anything, if a 7 footer launches a over-the-head stepaway. To bad he has very few games where he is good enough to utlulise this fact.
I think the only man who can stop Nowitzki is Pau Gasol. Gasol's best skill on defense is how he can defend guards and centers being a Power forward. He can defend Ray Allen shooting threes or Dwight Howard in the paint. Nowitzki would have problems against this current Gasol, his lenght, long arms, and speed. Good match up thought.

@Kobe24Pauer yeah pau not that good hes good but i think ur over stating it dirk still dominates pau dirk said the hardest player shoot over is kg now he is a good defender
Dirk Nowitzki is closest thing to another Larry Bird! He's the best of the "next Birds", the best European player ever, the best White player of his generation, and one of the Greatest ever to play in the NBA!
dirk is a "once in a lifetime talent" he hasent had the luxary of having a big man "ever" us mavs fans have been spoiled these last 12 yrs listen to marv albert Nowitzki "yes" haha all day
In Tim Donaghy's book, he claims that referees make calls against teams with whom they carry a little grudge against. There are pages on the internet. They're long but ya'll should check it out. Mark Cuban has a history of criticizing the league and its officials. I'm not saying the series was fixed. Miami DESERVED to win the title. It's just that the allegations raise some questions.
Anybody who says Pau Gasol is better than Dirk Nowitzki is on crack. Pau Gasol never won a playoff game before he got traded to the Lakers. Dirk has more all-star appearances, better stats, an MVP award, and he led his team to the NBA Finals.
@NealDasgupta They both do certain things well.... Pau is nowhere near the shooter Dirk is from the outside. On the othere hand, I've never seen ANY big man move without the ball and pass as well as Pau. You can't really compare the two. But if was starting a team, I'd take Dirk.
Yeah, I was whistled for 3 fouls on Wade from my living room. Not to mention he was allowed to travel like a bastard. Thank God he'll get hurt again this year(that's his M.O.), and then some team will overpay for him.
It's too bad the Miami Bennett Salvatores got their marching orders from Team Stern to not let Cuban hoist the Larry OBrien Trophy. And @SpurEmpireStrikeBack: Give it a rest already. None of the calls in that Western Conference Semi-Finals were anywhere near as egregious as Dwyane "Apparently I Can Get Away With a Backcourt Violation" Wade. Oops, I think I just got whistled for a foul on Wade for that last comment. Dang.
Didn't the already plan out the parade route when they were up 2-0 and that just fueled Miami's fire...I want Dirk to someday get a ring, but i do think that the current team looks stronger than last years - so it will be interesting to see how it works out - I can see Jason Kidd being traded if it goes wrong.
ha i remember this game tim thomas hit JUST ONE three and started blowing kisses at dirk and then dirk dropped 50 on him! Dirk was sayin "yeah bitch kiss my ass!"
in the finals nowitzki was alone!!! miami had shaq and wade but dallas have many years only nowitzki!!!!!! the transfers very very terrible in dallas!!!!!
Regardless of what will be said of him, there is no doubt that Dirk has place among the NBA's All-Time Greats. His number 41 will be proudly retired, he will be proudly enshrined in the Hall of Fame, and his name alone will forever attain iconic status in the sport. Dirk Nowitzki is the name.
this is really very very painful to watch.. Im a big dallas fan ever since dirk came.. they lost to miami leading 2-0. miami wasnt that great, in fact phoenix was even better.. brought tears to my eyes.. what ever happened to this team? thay were the best.. now they are just hanging on the 8th seed..
maybe if they get a proper PG and a good center they will be able to go for 4th or 3rd seed, im not saying that jason is bad at PG, he is awesome, but well, he needs to be the heart of the maverick team, dampier is also too old to center for mavs these days
god its so painful to think all we had to do was close out that terrible miami team in game 3 and we have a title. ofcourse we would also probably have one if bennett salvador doesn't bail out wade on his out of control layup at the end of game 5.
Whattabout that 6 pioints against the Spurs..?

Dirk is great at dropping trou and scoring. That's how Jamal Nowitzki was born.

It's just that the allegations raise some questions.

phenomenal series

Anybody who says Pau Gasol is better than Dirk Nowitzki is on crack. Pau Gasol never won a playoff game before he got traded to the Lakers. Dirk has more all-star appearances, better stats, an MVP award, and he led his team to the NBA Finals.
NealDasgupta 2 years ago 11
@NealDasgupta They both do certain things well.... Pau is nowhere near the shooter Dirk is from the outside. On the othere hand, I've never seen ANY big man move without the ball and pass as well as Pau. You can't really compare the two. But if was starting a team, I'd take Dirk.

im still angry about all of those terrible foul calls for wade. the refs gave miami those last few games
r5fernandez 2 years ago 7
@r5fernandez ye the same thing in the playoffs dis year if dallas tried to block san antonios shots it was automatically a foul
danialves1312 1 year ago

Dang.
Timemage41 2 years ago 4
I miss this dallas 05/06 team....i loved it and i still get tears in my eyes when i imagin this 2-0 lead in the finals.
But than some people doesn t want that cuban gets the trophy from stern;)
nowitzki41fan 2 years ago
miami put a great run to beat dallas as the spurs got ripped off by these bitches when the refs help them idiot mark cuban a punk
SpurEmpireStrikeBack 2 years ago
Didn't the already plan out the parade route when they were up 2-0 and that just fueled Miami's fire...I want Dirk to someday get a ring, but i do think that the current team looks stronger than last years - so it will be interesting to see how it works out - I can see Jason Kidd being traded if it goes wrong.

Im a big dallas fan ever since dirk came.. they lost to miami leading 2-0. miami wasnt that great, in fact phoenix was even better.. brought tears to my eyes.. what ever happened to this team? thay were the best.. now they are just hanging on the 8th seed..
otakukim 2 years ago 2
maybe if they get a proper PG and a good center they will be able to go for 4th or 3rd seed, im not saying that jason is bad at PG, he is awesome, but well, he needs to be the heart of the maverick team, dampier is also too old to center for mavs these days
chriss790 2 years ago 2
bye dallas =/
JakeHenry41KC 2 years ago
8th seed FTW!!!
MCskittle23 2 years ago
god its so painful to think all we had to do was close out that terrible miami team in game 3 and we have a title. ofcourse we would also probably have one if bennett salvador doesn't bail out wade on his out of control layup at the end of game 5.
