I am from England. Soccer was the sport I was always interested in until I saw Jonah Lomu make the English team look like boys. Now I live in NZ I watch rugby all the time.
Bottom line for all that must compare rugby to football. Lomu is 6'5" and was lightning fast. He would have been a huge pile mover in American football. Take into account people actually block other players in American football. I can only imagine how that big mans stiff arm would eat up corners and mid size linebackers. Lastly, they are different sports one not being better than the other. For me I enjoy both games for what they are. Its like Christmas 2x a year. Jonah was the real deal.
03:04 to 03.12 he gets the ball and he knows that he has 6 MEN that he can no out ran in front of him, does he gives the ball to the full back on his left to make it his problem???? NO, HE CHARGES AGAINST THEM. one of a kind....
@diddyme2011 and I'm one of them ;) I am and was not very interested in Rugby (maybe because there was no TV in Germany where I could watch rugby). One year (dont know which) the World Championships were broadcasted and I cant remember any other rugby player but this impressive, unstoppable Maori-Rugby-Warrior (now I know that he's not Maori ;) ) So whenever I hear about rugby I'll always remember Jonah Lomu and so for me Rugby = Jonah Lomu ;)
lomu est tres fore mais que phisiquement tactiquement il y a meilleur il va toujours au contatc mais sa restera tj l'un des meilleure joueurs au monde
Each now and then some brat from the US braggs on internet that he knows the NFL player who would've snapped Jonah Lomu between his fingers, and names some 1m91, 115kg guy!!....Sigh...Will they ever understand?
@ericmarseille2 U kiddin? The NFL has tons of guys that size. Jonah is good for sure but it's not that impressive when you see him truck'in guys half his size that are white. Be real. Most NFL linebackers are his size and carry his stats or better for speed. Demarcus Ware, Ray Lewis, Mike Singletary, Lawrence Taylor, Derrick Thomas all had/have that size and speed. The list is a mile long. Jonah stands out more because Rugby just doesn't have as deep a talent draw as the NFL.
@cjstorm16 I got your comment about how "you don't give a shit"... "it's a completely different sport" and . Why comment to me if you don't care? I didn't bring up the NFL; mareseille2 did. And the sports are not that diffferent and the fact that u play anything is irrelevant. And given your logic let me assure you no one gives a shit what you think.
@quadbravo I said I follow the NFL, so that one wouldn't think I was bias to rugby. They are COMPLETELY different sports! Your a flippin idiot for even thinking they aren't that different! I was directing the 'we don't give a shit' comment toward you naming off a bunch of big NFL players. Its irrelevant, as they are DIFFERENT sports! You should have somebody read back to you what you type, in an attempt to knock some sense into you...
@cjstorm16 I never suggested you're biased to anything. Heck, you don't even a have a fully formed view. Under your imbecilic definitions “NO sports” are similar; let alone football and ruby where guys run with a ball, get tackled on a field and make cross a goal. In fact, the word similar doesn't even exist under the auspices of sports in your demented mind. Compared to A. Peterson, Johan is an NFL level player. Find a friend; it's not me.
@quadbravo I don't have a fully formed view? Do you actually need me to explain how rugby and football are different? Your blowing this out of proportion. I was only trying to make a point that you can't compare NFL players and rugby players in who is better. It's kinda like when people try and decide who is the greatest one player of all time in a sport. Thats impossible! To try and place a rank on Payton Manning and Lawrence Taylor is just stupid. They are completely different positions.
@quadbravo We give a shit? dude... its a completely different sport. Unless they trade places for a day, we'll never know. Lomu is possibly the best rugby player to play the game. Shut your mouth and leave it at that. (Would like to note that I follow the NFL like the back of my hand)
Im sure you guys are gonna flame on me for this but, these guys are so beasty and could easily play in American Football leagues and get so much more bank. If thats what there after, but if they truly love the game i guess the best thing to do is to stay..
@kiwihammo : I remember watching the game in live ( as a french supporter) and thinking: is it a game between kids and adults. Lol . I like Chabal, I really do, but he's just a good boy compared to Lomu!
ahh i remember, hes gona be playing for Marseille Vitrolles this year. fair play to him. He does it because he loves it cos im sure he dont need the cash. ;-)
the trys vs france at the end...makes u think jonah was the best player on the field...he was PATHETIC that day...i actually put the NZ loss to france that day on Jonahs shoulders...he let 3-4 tries through him...he was SO LAZY and SLOW on defense...he was on his downward slide by 99...
jake...stfu..he didnt run 10flat....otherwise he woulda got 100times the $ being a professional sprinter...DUMBASS...and lucozade..yet he was i another league between the yrs of 95-97...only player who even came close (in patches of their careers) was christian cullen and rupeni caucau...but jonah would kill them off too
actualy professional sprinters get fuck all money, believe it or not, but they do get a lot of stuff payed for by their sponsors. But yeah, theres no way anyone in rugby can run 10 flat, i think theres a couple of players that have run 10.2, like habana and chavanga
there has been a few big fast men but jonah's balance while running and his explosiveness into contact just puts him another league above any other player ever. a serious monster
he's better then caucau......... lomu played with life threatening ailment and still smashed people. He had to play at less then his best because he was practically dying Caucau can't say the same.... Lomu was the greatest
couldn't agree more. Lomu was far better the rupeni, and as for rurepi, he is a disgrace to rugby and himself. and a complete waste of raw talent. Lomu was all about the game, the team, the never give up attitude, He was a role model and a great guy.
Hey maybe he will make some sort of comeback this year in france, cant remeber the club he is going to but would love to see him just once more show a little of the vintage stuff. would be great.
