  • Point it at the moon!

  • now how we break it down into a hand gun...?

  • Hey, where is that, Lawrence Livermore Radiation Lab?

I saw one their night lasers, it was green and powerful.

  • huh

  • huh?

  • 25 people asked santa for that for Christmas and guess what happened......

  • I mean, Particle beam, not accelarator.

  • Nikola tesla invneted this and it's callled the particle accelerator,

Radiatiant energy was his recipe, and it's what lasers depend on.

  • @BeamSurfer Without Einsteins equations and theory's about light and radiation lasers would of never existed!

  • huh?

  • huh?

  • huh ?

  • huh?

  • huh?

  • Welcome, my son...

  • where have you been? Its alright we know where youve been.

  • from pink floyd?

  • Hmm...People planning to create the Deathstar?

  • @IIDenkanII deathstar slim lol

  • Can someone tell me the titles of some documentaries in which is spoken about lasers ? Or at least one. I need some video material for a project and I can't find anything . I searched google, ask etc. but I couldnt find what I need...

  • Can't find anything? Ah, you may find many thing. Just google 'Sam laser FAQ'. Be warned, you may get headache when see how _huge_ this site is.

  • Lol, thank you, and you were right about the headache...biiiig site, but usefull too :D

  • Cool! If fusion fails, at least such 192 beams can destroy many attacker's airplanes at the same time. Just need to be reconfigured/re-arranged output mirrors.

  • LOLOL

  • hey, i thought of this before, i saw anyhting like this, i thought if lke a laser reflected like a lot of times or something and got more energy than it would be a huge death machinge laser of doom.

    :D

    LOL

    ROFL COPTER CHPPA

    LOL

  • good

  • This is more about fusion than a laser.

  • Absolutely nothing to do with fusion...

  • The lasers is even tho significant to the project is not the most exciting thing about this. The laser controlled fusion reactor is a step toward table top reactors lol a small step..a fusion reaction has never been started by a laser!!

  • yer i get it!!!!!! ....... :S

  • very informing...

  • Wow, I NEED one of those.

  • Was the audio Welcome to the Machine by Pink Floyd? lol

  • Do u use the arrows or W

ASD and space? to controle the game:P?

looks like packman or something haha

  • When I saw the thing blow up, it reminded me of the Death Star lol

  • ah dude, this thing would put a hole though 1" steel in a few secs, probly less

  • They cant even fire it that often ;-)

It has to recharge I guess. We got a earlier older version in Germany!

  • i'd like to see what the target looks like after a blast from this thing! lol

  • Target What target? It was here a minute ago where did it go?

    --hydro15

  • yea true battleaxe they even slowed light to the speed of a push bike with verry cold, cold

  • it is true .... i think

  • Researchers at the Rowland Institute for Science slowed light to 38 miles per hour in 1999

  • Maybe 38 miles per hour in relation to us, but still the speed of light in relation to something.

  • LOL! :D

  • DUDE, rip a hole in time with that thing!

  • gotta have no mass to be able to travel any where near light speed buttttt apparently black holes pull light towards them with their gravity

and light has no mass so how does gravity work on it i think people make stuff up as they go along ahaha

  • Scientist have figured out that light is not only a wave, but also is made up of light particles (photons) that gravity seems to have and affect on

  • Gravity has no effect to light but gravity bends the space around and the light follows the space.

  • yes photons have to little a mass to be affected by gravity however the "brother" of a photon (the neutrino) is affected by gravity and since ALL photons follow the path of the neutrino before it...

  • Wrong this is the most powerful (600mw vs 30gw)

  • lol not even light can travel faster than light

  • different wavelengths of light travel at different speeds.

  • yes but "superluminal" speeds are impossible, you get a "luminal boom"(the light version of a sonic boom) that can OBLITTERATE space-time ITSELF

  • where did you hear that?, you seem to know a lot about light, judging from your comments, are you a scientist, or just like to read about stuff?

  • i read most science magazines

  • Oh, I read discover since my dad won't renew my wired subscription, now that I have some money I could renew it, but I need a new slingshot band :(

  • Pardon my ignorance but, how does anyone know it can do that? We know nuclear bombs have terrifying effects 'cause we've tested them. But an explosion of photons (or whatever) that can destroy the universe? Whut?!

  • Dammit. That was supposed to be a reply to Dragonrider202's comment... -_-'

  • How's it possible space-time continuum would be obliterated? Will it not also obliterate matter (including dark matter) and energy and destroying the "Law of conservation of matter/energy"? Does it really obliterates space-time or it "warps / distorts it" ?

Are these Lasers as powerful as the ones used in nuclear fusion research (such as the American "Photothermonuclear fusion")?

I thought space-time-matter-energy are intricate parts of each other with probable symmetry.

  • lol

  • where can u actually see the laser and how much damage it can do

  • :D yeh i want a light sabre too XD

i wannt like stab walls and stuff... and bounce lasers

and cut people in half... :D

  • Yeah that would be awesome! :D

  • Thats hardcore that they actually have an accelerator setup that is fine tuned and all to amplify light.

  • okay so we get laser guns in a couple years after the japanese get a hold of this technology. when we gonna get lightsabres? i been waiting since 1976!!

  • "We had a guy from the NIF laboratory (the one shown from above in the video) come in and give a seminar."

Worlds strongest laser is located in Germany... PHELIX @ GSI with ~1 PW

  • if that laser hit summin with 1 PW OMFG! that would be the end of that!

  • i really wish i could understand this alittle more!

  • what if you point the laser at yourself?

  • you get a little red dot on you the size of a circle

  • i think you would explode

  • nice illustration and text, perhaps some more information about the function of each part would be nice

  • Was that "Nova" or "Shiva" at Lawrence Livermoor? I was on a tour of LLL and actually got to see "Shiva" and the first set of photomultipliers back in 1977. *Very* cool

  • i want laser technology like in resident evil where they cut the special force team into mini eatable burgers, for my security. that is an awesome security system and i know they have such laser weapon/radio frequency weapon

  • I fell asleep .......

  • boring

  • I could do with one of those in my kitchen

  • That in the background...I recognize it as a the song "Welcome to the machine" by Pink Floyd, no?

  • it needs to be smaller and faster in order to make a laser gun.......

  • so wait the entire building was a lazer lol

  • lol

  • man all o that in a matter of a second wow

  • try about 1/ten-millionth of a second

  • wouldnt it be 3/ten- millionths of a second...?

  • Cause that thing is about as big as a building. Wait 20 years, till the japanese get a hold of that technology, and we might see a laser gun.

  • ohh boy what a glorius day im sure that will cure world hunger and save lives lol....

  • Actually, it's the igniter an experimental nuclear fusion power plant. The amount of inexpensive power you could get from a controlled fusion burn could easily free up enough resources to save lives and solve world hunger.

  • Corporate greed will not allow that to happen.

  • word.

  • but if we have lasers who says we can't just take them out?

  • Whaty- what- huh?

  • fake

  • i liked the pink floyd though

  • i like the last part where the thing exploded n.n GO BOOM!!

  • hahaha kaboom

  • Very cool. We had a guy from the NIF laboratory (the one shown from above in the video) come in and give a seminar. It was interesting, the inside of the half-sphere looking thing looked like a prop from X-men 2. lol.

  • nice but i couldn't see the beggining well
