  • nice trumpet solo, too.

  • Might I ask what the story is with your private publicity stills. Are you a relative or a fan or what? Is there an interesting story you might share?

  • I sure like the hairstyles and clothing women whore back in the 1940s! Its some of my favorite things about that decade!

  • @IDiggSocialMedia a little too stiff aren't they though ?

  • @Bluzme It's still better than most of the stuff today!

  • @IDiggSocialMedia you can still dress in a similar fashion today, if you can find yourself a good open minded tailor - to help you look great

  • What song is this?

and i've not even killed one hooker this week, Daily Mail readers!

  • Fallout 3 led me here

  • @unibrothers11 How did it lead you here ? this song wasn't in the game

  • Thumbs up if you're here because your parents' or grandparents' generation (who fought a real war) had great music--and NOT because you heard this while playing video games of killing people for fun.

  • @nauort23 I go for games and you should agree that Fallout 3 and new Vegas are a great way to educate the younger generation, at least when it comes to music.

  • Bioshock led me here

  • The song sounds much better here than the other versions.

  • What is the name of the song? Tell me please, thanx!

  • @yaymmie The name of this song is Bei Mir Bist Du Schon by the wonderful Andrew Sisters

  • @ebar3552 Thanx a lot!!! :D

  • @yaymmie Bei Mir Bist Du Shein

  • удивительный

  • I'm loving this. Thanks so very, very much for uploading it.

  • прекрасные голоса!

  • When I was a kid (I'm 55 now), I always thought that they were singing, "A Beer Mister Shane". lol.

  • @Bradat26 LOL XD

  • @Bradat26 Like you most people thought this song was about a man named Shane. And that impression was furthered by the fact that the sisters were accompanied by Vic Schoen and his orchestra on this, which hit number one. The song is an old Yiddish tune that was given English lyrics, but the title was retained. It translates into the phrase By Me You Are Beautiful. The Andrews later recorded another old Yiddish song translated into English originally called Yussel, Yussel (Joseph, Joseph).

  • @CarlDuke Thank you for the background information!!

  • @Bradat26 I thought they were saying "My dear mister shane"

  • I love these girls....!!!!!!

  • How could anyone NOT love them?

  • If I hear this song It takes me to rapture, to quiet rooms filled with a watery blue light, while the seaweeds quietly wave in the ocean outside. beyond that, huge underwater skyscrapers.

  • I like-like-like-like! Ohh so much like I wanna jump an' hug the whole world!

  • wow! the VOICES!! perfectly placed, almost like opera singers.

  • HI, really liked this version and I'm certainly guessing here, that this is an earlier version of their song, also on YT, which has more of a brassy tone. Anyway, thanks for posting. It's a catchy song.

  • I love this song, Also alot of you guys found it from bioshock I found it on Stereomood under the swing section, You guys should check it out they have all sorts of swing music, Like Princess crocodile and Born in 1931, I'm not tryin to spam, I'm tryin to Spread the word

  • @Nightmare1324

lol dude, that sites so lowkey, dont go spreadin that shit ;)

  • Bei mir bist du schön, please let me explain Bei mir bist du schön means you're grand Bei mir bist du schön, again I'll explain It means you're the fairest in the land I could say "Bella, bella", even say "Wunderbar" Each language only helps me tell you how grand you are I've tried to explain, bei mir bist du schön So kiss me and say you understand I could say "Bella, bella", even say "Wunderbar" Each language only helps me tell you how grand you are
  • Love the song.

  • wunderschoen!!!

love this music ... wanna dance now >>>

  • wunderschoen!!!

  • the best music bioshock has brought to me....

  • Listen to the lyrics in this song, "Of all the boys I've known and I've known some..." That's like saying, "I've had a lot of sexual partners." This song was recorded in 1937. So all the religious people who yammer about "modern devil music turning girls into sluts" are wrong. Even songs that are over 70 years old still had sexual themes in them. Our music has always had sexual themes in it. Why? Because it's an artist's passion that inspires them to create art and sex is origin of passion.

  • @AtheistOnTheEdge The diffrence is though, today we are more apt to come out and SAY IT. You know instead of "Making whoopee" we say, "Wanna fuck?"

  • Comment removed

  • @AtheistOnTheEdge - Respectfully, No, that's "not" the same as saying "i've had a lot of sexual partners". It seems you would like it to be, but it isn't. That being said - i still agree with you about religious people being wrong, LoL!

  • Seems only like a short time ago I was listening to The Andrews Sister's on a big Motorola console radio when I was a little kid. There's a whole lot of memories from that time. Makes me a bit misty when I listen to them. The world was so different back then, and the sad thing is I'll never be able to get back to that world. I'm greatful for the modern tech that still in a way keeps an open window for me to see back into that time.

  • kocham tamte czasy :)

  • ah bioshock and fall out 3 good times :)

  • I love how Bioshock has introduced so many people :)

It's great that classic music is still being heard

  • these heafas can sing their asses off!!!!

  • The next Fallout should have this song. Thumbs up if you agree.

  • @hotdogman67 Definitely! Although I played Bioshock, I don't recall hearing this song. I do remember hearing it in Fallout 3 via the GNR mod called "More of the Same", available from Fallout 3 Nexus. It adds up to 100 additional songs to the GNR playlist in the style and time period of the original playlist.

  • @helbent4

Yea, if there's one problem I have with my Xbox, it's that I can't add awesome mods like that.

  • @hotdogman67 Oh right, sorry! Still, since my computer went south I've not been able to play F3 so I guess it evens out, if I had an XBox I could get another for a lot less than a new computer.

  • Comment removed

  • @hotdogman67 Bioshock beat them to the punch.

  • @railbaron1

I know. Bethesda makes the best games ever.

  • @hotdogman67 :l

  • Lovely cornet solo by Bobby Hackett ---relaxed and nice phrasing. Thanks for the post.

  • Nice cornet solo by Bobby Hackett...relaxed and nice phrasing. Thanks

  • I undergo sound-induced euphoric hypnosis with this era's music. Benny Goodman, The Andrews Sister. Peggy Lee, all good to me baby!

  • I've never played Bioshock. But I'm glad it has introduced some people to otherwise obscure, awesome music.

  • The abu ghraib photo at the end is a nice touch.

  • muy buenooo este sonidoo y esas voceees !!

  • I love their music when I was 5 my mom bought an army uniform just like theirs with the tie and everything and I would dance to their music. Thanks for the Memories :)

  • loved the bedroom scene in eve's garden in bioshock with this tune

  • Andrew Ryan on bass at 2:18. And why not.

  • I love love love Andrews Sisters and I'm 35. :) Yep even the younger generations are still playing their music!

  • This is real music.

The Andrew Sisters had hits, fans, fame and were IT in there day.

Just about every person had at least one of their records back then.

    They are still popular today.

    Thank you for posting this.

    George Vreeland Hill

  • The Fallout 3 GNR extended mod FTW!

What would Fallout 3 be without that trusty ol' radio? <3

  • @SW3HUMM3R

    Fallout, Bioshock... :'( best games!

  • Thank you for uploading.

This was the first swing song I ever heard. Ever since then, I've been addicted to both swing music and the 1940s.

Check out the hairstyles! The longer ones, in particular, look elaborate.

  • thanks to Bioshock and the Fallout video games songs such as this one are being discovered and enjoyed again! Love it!

  • Is a man not entitled to the sweat of his own brow? No says the man in washington it belongs to the poor! No says the man in the Vatican it belongs to God! No says the man in Moscow it belongs to everyone! I rejected those answers, instead I chose something different, I chose the impossible, I chose Rapture!

  • Thumbs up if Keri Hilson sent you here :)

  • Wow they were beautiful.

  • Would you kindly? Powerful phrase... Familiar phrase..?

  • me encanta

    viva las hermanas andrew

  • maravilloso

  • Oh yeah, may Granny used to shake her booties to this music. Booyah!

  • im still fairly young and like this music. it has an upbeat feel to it. ( btw bioshock didnt get me into this i just like it)

  • Bei mir bist du schoen means ..

For Me You are Beautiful : )

  • @LeonShineTV schoen is dutch for shoe. They actually should say schön. but that does not rhyme with the rest of the lyrics. :)

  • Comment removed

  • @JahiriAtto Actually the title is not German but Yiddisch, that is the reason they pronounce it as 'schein', meaning 'I like you' However the German writing the 'ö' can also be spelled 'oe' as here in Schoen.

  • What software did you use to make this? I'm operating on a Windows 7 O.S. I love this video. Great stuff!

  • @jtack19791 es provable k usara window movie maker search google

  • esta version ha sido la que mejor se escucha de esta cancion

  • 20 parasites disliked this song

  • VINTAGE MUSIC AT ITS BEST. ^^b

  • This is more like it. The real hit version of the song that put them on the map.

  • I love Bioshock and I love this song!!!

  • The girl groups of the 1930's & 1940's , such as The Boswell Sisters, The Bennett Sisters, The Norton Sisters, The Murphy Sisters, The King Sisters, The Dinning Sisters, The Clark Sisters, & The Andrews Sisters helped make the music of that time period so damn good. When I think of the music of the 1940's , I first think of Glenn Miller & then, The Andrews Sisters.

  • "of all the boys I've known, and I've known some" uh, what?

  • Andrews Sisters showing them how it's done ! This is my kinda tune, yowsah !

  • @whenjazzwasking

    Yowsah indeed!!

  • timeless!!!

  • AHH MY FAV SONG IN BIOSHOCK

  • bioshock :D

  • @deloreandmc88 haha!

  • I love this song...and last heard it on Bioshock.

    This song is awesome. :)

  • Running around through Hephaestus with a tommy gun lighting up splicers while this song plays is always gonna be a memory of mine. I wish I was born around these times...

  • @neutralcartman2 Can you translate that for us?

  • @nauort23 Oh, it's a video game and this song plays as background music sometimes, it's soothing, now I am checking out other work by them. The game is Bioshock. Look up Hephaestus Bioshock gameplay and you just might hear this song :)

  • @neutralcartman2 It's funny you say that because I think there's another video game that plays The Ink Spots.

  • @neutralcartman2 Hephaestus is not a place, it's a person.

  • @Jughead2950 I know that, Hephaestus was a LOCATION in the game I am mentioning. Actually Hephaestus was a Greek god (thank you Honors World History).

  • @neutralcartman2 Yeah, I know. Isn't that what I said? Whatever...

  • The best performance and version of this song. wunderbar!

  • I'm singing this in Choir lol. Its a cool song. I like the Bella bella part the best(:

  • is this song jewish?

  • @XgooniesneversaydieX its originally a Yiddish song i believe. so yes.

  • Awesome the memories of those days. TY.

  • @kopek94 That something special is called "singing talent". The Andrews Sisters were impressive even at the time.

The idea was for them to sound like a brass trio so they could stand out from the big-band backing music rather than being forced to take a back-seat to the band like most female singers.

To achieve this, they sung at the top of their lungs in perfect harmony and with perfect elocution. One book I read said it was "yell singing" they were doing it so loudly during the choruses.

  • Потрясающе!!!!!!!

  • che tempi

  • Perfect harmonization!!

  • Would you kindly?

  • I love this song!!!

  • i like it!

  • I love this song i wish more people listened to this music.

  • hearing this it makes me want to kill splicers!!!

  • Fine Song, it was a gig Hit for Zarah Leander in Sweden!

    Thanks for posting!

    Aloha from Hawaii!

  • Patty Marie Andrew is one of my heros

  • bei mir = by me. Komm du bei mir= come by me. But in this song title it is used in the sense of "in my opinion". Example: "Everyone thinks that guy is so great, but by me he is a louse." So "In my opinion, you are beautiful."

  • German: bei mir bist du schön

    English: with me you're beautiful

  • @mybuttlookslikeurfac

It's actually Yiddish and it translates as: To me you are beautiful.

    Not a big difference, though.

  • Occurs the song in the first or second part of Bioshock? Google for Cannapower. There you can Download the Soundtrack of Part 1 for free and without registration !!

  • Bioshock introduced me to this genre and grateful they did. I just can't stop listening to this music.

  • Bioshock also introduced me to this type of music, which of I can't get off enough now...

  • @3lp3rsona "...can't get off enough...."

lol, I mean, they were beautiful, talented and had great voices, but man...

  • @irishluv730 lol. not a good time to mix your words up.

  • This is one of my favorite song of all time. This song is recorded in November 24, 1937 and Bei Mir Bist Du Schon is on side B and Side A is the song called "Nice Work If You Can Get It" on 10" inch 78 rpm.

  • Bioshock introduced me to a whole new world of music ay.

  • @Ilovepieandchips yup Fallout 3 did the same with me too....

  • @Ilovepieandchips

  • Thanks for putting this on youtube.

  • Love these girls. Love, Love, LOVE 'em. Thanks for posting.

  • why hasn't anyone done a biogrphy and movie of the sisters lives???

  • Heh, I've got a 78 rpm record of this song...found it amongst my grandparents' stuff after they died. Even though it's a 72 year old record, it sounds almost as good as the audio in this vid...creepy.

  • Thank YOU Bioshock and Fallout for helpin me discover such great music!

  • J' aime trop cette chanson c'est magnifique leurs voix la basse la mélodie les cuivres tout est parfait....mon coeur de mettaleuse est conquis !!!

    Long life good music

  • @kmill33260 oui! qui n'aime pas Andrew Souers?

  • Oh god, this song sounds so perfect. Beautiful.

  • What does it mean "bei mir bist du schoen"?

  • It is Yiddish and it means roughly "To me, you are beautiful"

  • @JenniferWold

It is German, but the translation is ok.

  • @yetiO7 As most people know the title it is in quasi-German but it is from a Yiddish play that was performed in 1932 under the title Bei Mir Bistu Shein. Yiddish doesn't translate into English characters very easy. It was translated from Yiddish to English and covered by the Andrews Sisters in 1937 after it was re-written to fit into a more swing standard. I promise it is Yiddish. We spoke Yiddish in my home growing up. :)

  • @JenniferWold According to Google Translate, it means Bei We Are Family Shown.

  • @MadsNoble - it definitely means "To me you are beautiful". Online translators don't take into account pragmatics or context, or even linguistic features, so the translations are often peculiar to say the least.

  • it means: you will be ok with me

  • I hate to say it but yeah, bioshock made me LOVE this song <3

  • Same here :P
