Well actually if you check the power level of Vergil in DMC3 you would see he would never be able to do what dante ust did. By DMC4, Dante is just so much more powerfull than Vergil, it´s not even funny, heck he wasn´t even serious in any of his fights, he´s just a beast. In DMC3, neither Dante nor Vergil had the power to slice through that humongous Gate.

Those three orbs that Vergil encounters is an avatar of the ruler of the demon world called Mundus whom Sparda fought against. Vergil did not "die" when he charged at him. When Mundus defeated him, he brainwashed him and transformed him into his elite soldier, a dark knight called Nelo Angelo.

Vergil did die when he charged at Mundus. The DMC4 history section refers to Nelo Angelo as a demon that contains the soul of Dante's departed brother. Departed=dead. Departed is also the word it uses to describe Eva.

My conclusion is that Vergil helped nero because nero wanted to protect Kyrie just like Vergil wanted to protect his mother. He went corrupt and embraced his demon side, when Dante embraced his human side. Dante came out more powerful in the end.

Vergil can control Yamato. Its raw power, it helped seal the gate between human and demon realm. Vergil's cut attacks are more controlled. When Dante uses the slash move and everything gets cut infront of him. well he can only do that. Vergil can concentrate it into a single area.

The novelization of DMC 4 throws quite a lot of hints at Nero beng Vergil's son, so technically it belongs to Nero since it was his father's sword but I know where you're coming from though

This would mean that at some point in his life something happened which turned his arm into a devil arm. The best guess at the moment is that somehow Virgil's essence was imbued into his arm, which is why the arm commands Yamato so well.
