this is so much of a help.. do u have to be up in the air jumpin on goombas to get the 1 ups or do u just have to stomp them?

I was aware of all of these except 4-1 but I usually only use the technique from 1-2.

I memorized the timing for star cards so well that none of the techniques for lives are really necessary for me anyways.

@YoshiTechnoManMaster Well, the method in 1-2 is the earliest in the game. The turtle shell probably happens a little faster than the stomping method and the coin collection. It's also the most leisurely once you get it set up.

how do you rebound so high in the sky after jumping on someone and come down so slow. even with the racoon tail i can't get that much hang time. is there something i am doing wrong with the controls. help anybody?

The only advice I can give is to hold down the A button to get Mario to bounce high after he stomps an enemy.

Yes, hammering on the A button can be a real pain, but some of the later techniques don't require such hard work.

No, I read them all in one source or another. I think my biggest source was the Nintendo Power strategy guide for SMB 3. Actually, the last one (with the P-switch and all the coins) I did find myself, but since it's mandatory to find if you didn't enter the stage able to fly, I'm sure I wasn't the only person ever to stumble onto it. :)

It is, but number 1 is the most convenient because it's in the first world so if you're warping to world 8, you can already have 99 lives.

I have yet to try it, but SMB3 probably was more difficult for the Japanese crowd - getting hit with a power-up meant small Mario time, like SMB1.

(From what I've read, anyway.)

I've also done it by pouncing turtles in 1-1 (with the three flying turtles and one walking turtle)

I just tried that one and I can see how you *would* do it, but I couldn't get all the turtles under control. I guess it just takes more practice. It's also more difficult since once you've got the turtles under control, you've got to keep them spaced out enough so that you don't kick a shell by mistake, since that'll ruin the whole setup. Still, nice tip.
