  • Some of Julia Ward Howe's lyrics are very awkward to sing. Most performers avoid the difficult stanzas, so it's rare to hear the entire song. No problem for Odetta. A consequential American life. RIP.

  • Best version ever

  • She was born to sing this beautiful hymm. What a powerful voice so rich with emotion. The best version I have ever heard.

  • One person has no soul.

  • I love the deep spirituality of this song. So much meaning in every line of lyrics. No body is better than Odetta for this song either. You can't tell me that her voice is not god given. Most modern pop singers could practice for 2000 years and not get close to the quality of voice she has.

  • I was looking up the lyrics to "All The Pretty Little Horses" and found my way here. WHOA!! I had never heard of Odetta before. You can bet that after listening to her, I will be seeking out more of her works. What a gift she was given in her voice!! I'm in awe.

  • @jellywillreturn

    Mission Accomplished?

  • I never knew what a beautiful song this was until now...

    Many thanks, diana

  • Beautiful! Thank you!

  • I got here from ponies.

  • @jellywillreturn Same here brony.

  • wow

  • Praise Jah (Jehovah) is Hallelujah in English. Praise Jah, Jesus did , by the way his name means Jehovah's salvation in Hebrew. The new Liveing Bible translation took Jehovah's name out. I dont think there Dad would have liked that but you know what they say money talks Jehovah has to walk. Just dont forget, our father who art in heaven hallowed be thy name. I wont tell you what hallowed means you'll have to look it up, remember Jesus said quote, when I return I wont be such a nice guy. LOL JAH!

  • @777tommycrown your nuts! but go for it buddy! hey ras!

  • the best version

  • If Americans ever take a stand and take down these evil New World Order people ruining the world, I hope this will be our battle song.

  • @heartfire451 There are no NWO people. All of this Masons, Knights of Columbus, etc. is all bullshit.

  • @Miroshinen Well said. Concise and straight to the point. No doubt many will now think you are sat in the Pentagon writing these remarks under the watchful eye of Chief Mason George Bush.

  • @abaddon7878925 Most likely, though in reality, I listen to this song to relax, and seeing people talking about about a bunch of conspiracy bullshit pisses me off. And the only organization I belong to is a volunteer fire department.

  • It is great to hear this version, which is a five verse version. I believe the original version has one more verse. " Let the hero born of woman crush the serpent with his heel" verse is often left out and yet it is so powerfull and reminds us we are always in a battle against evil while in this world. Good people must don their battle armor every day here and do so while keeping their hearts and minds open.

  • such power n that voice..man she was one of a kind.

  • I am scared.... I feel like God is coming to get us. thanks to her voice...*shivers*

  • Her voice scares me to death - it's so deep, so rich, so everything. Unbelievably moving.

  • She sings this very close to the 1862 version. Beautiful, each word crisp and audible.

  • This is the definitive version of the song...

  • she knows the words are great and lets you understand every one. one of a kind, Odetta. R.I.P.

  • great song.
