  • Look at all of em smokin'. Its wonderful isn't it.

  • Back in the days when stars had class and cars had fins.

  • Letterman, Leno, Kimmel, Ferguson et al keep on truckin; cuz, there aint nothing like the real thing!

  • That was such a wonderful "blast from the past". Now that is comedy!!What a great bunch, and how sad that so many of them are gone. Truly, an era gone by.

  • this is a roast everyone is drunk smoking cigarettes and having a good ol' time

  • lol this is good so much better than today

  • We have no real "characters" anymore.

Everyone is from the same cookie-cutter, so it seems. Dull and predictable.

  • the good old days...AND celebrities. gone down hill since then. WOW

  • Is that an old Mac sound at 0:31?

  • Love the shows of the 50's, & 60's

  • @maureenmo1 well at least there's YouTube, maureenmo1. I'm 24 and I'm a NOSTALGIC person, I like old music, old shows and old movies. And I agree REALITY TV is crap. REPLY BACK, maureenmo1.

  • @generalbullmoose well times have changed, generalbullmoose. THEY JUST USE EXPLICIT WORDS NOW to MAKE PEOPLE LAUGH. Get over it, dude. REPLY BACK.

  • @onebaud don't say bring them back becuz they are dead. BUT THEY LIVE IN OUR HEARTS, onebaud. REPLY BACK.

  • I honestly loved these guy;s.Times were so good back then.

  • now thats entertainment...

  • Dean's intro's were Gold. What a Pro! and friggin hysterical!

  • that 39 people I dont understand what there are doing here?

  • 10:12 was that serious? Because racism was still quite large then...

  • they could smoke anywhere in those days

  • Punk'd with style and grace...yeahh....i'm a cusser but I recognized ingenuity and wit when i see them.

  • great stuff thanks for the upload

  • I think what loyalgers meant (above) was: "these men knew how to deliver comedy without appearing crude and vulgar."

People talk more crudely because life is less crude. This is basic human-nature stuff, folks. Sorry to bust your "golden age" bologna bubble. Things have seldom been better... only flawed memory makes it appear otherwise.

And yes... those were talented people.

  • I miss all these people so much. I want them back!

  • @onebaud THEY ARE ALERADY DEAD, YOU IDIOT. They are deceased, onebaud. REPLY BACK.

  • Times have changed people, get over it already.

  • oh dean...how we miss you...one of the best entertainers to ever grace the stage or screen. rip mr. martin.

  • This was the golden age of smoking on tv. People used to have a good time until the threat of cancer caused everyone to quit smoking. Stupid dumb people chose to stop smoking instead of curing cancer. Bad mistake!

  • This was great stuff. Now they can't hardly do stuff without genitalia & bodily function jokes any more. Wish we could bring these days back.

  • There are no roasts like this anymore. These men knew how to deliver comedy without being crude and vulgar.

  • @loyalgers1965 These were cleaned up for TV, the true friars roasts back then would make a sailor blush.

  • @SonoVox100 well there are comedy roasts out there, SonoVox100, but TIMES HAVE CHANGED, dude. they use vulgar and profanity to change with the times. REPLY BACK.

  • @kimv020887 not sure what you're reacting to? I was replying to the poster that said they knew how to deliver comedy without being crude. What i was saying is they were just as crude back then too. Personally, I have no problem with the vulgarity.

  • @SonoVox100 TIMES HAD CHANGED, dude.

  • Nice to see Martin Milner in there

  • what a classic comedy clip. i love it.

  • Well here's my two cents about us kids that feel as if we're born in the wrong era. We USED to be alive back then but we were reincarnated, rotated back to the world, and put in these times. I would go back if I could because the world now is bland, but we cant go back. We can change what's in front of us though. If you want something done, go do it don't wait, cause by the time you look up, its already too late.

  • Good job, mate, thanks for sharing.

  • I agree! I don't understand with all the talent in this country that we can not find good comedy like Dean Martin and Johnny Carson. There is a big void in late night entertainment now. I think Robin Williams should be the Tonight Show host..he is sincerely funny and quick on his feet.

  • everyones smoking. soo cool!

i swear i would go back to my old habit if i was in the company of those fine gentlemen

  • whats sad is that most of these guys are dead now! minus Winters and Newhart! i used to love to watch Johnny Carson show when i was a kid! good times!

  • Dean Martin Roasts were the quinessential of comedy and laughter. Nothing comes close to these great comedians of the past.

  • The new raosts on comedy central are nowhere near as good as these ones

  • @mercuryrulz I disagree with you, dude.

  • @kimv020887 Since geraldo died I dont think they will be as funny.....he like made those roasts

  • @mercuryrulz well times HAVE changed.

  • way to go george

  • guys, type gift into adress bar before youtube

  • wow, these jokes are soo much cleaner, listen turn on a comedy central roast see how dirty it is

  • 39 of these people were laughing so hard they hit the dislike button

  • Comedians making comedians laugh, and letting us be apart of it!

  • what's with the random AOL sounds and stuff?

  • Was a teenager when these were going on- - Nothing has come close since

  • @CoopTheTruth Are you talking about Don Rickles? He's stiil here.

  • "The fact that you've been able to make two wives disappear..." :D

  • CARSON WAS SO COOL.......but every generation always attacks its youth for its ways......

There are some talented comedians out there today.....

Let's not be too hasty in attacking the youth culture......Remember how your parents attacked and criticized your trends and fads....

  • CARSON WAS SO COOL....

  • these are the real gentleman...just pioneers and hilarious! so sick of you guys comparing comedians and shit...look.. news flash people...TIMES HAVE CHANGED IS A EVOLUTION DEAL WITH IT...

  • true story!

  • they were real comedians not like now that they just attack and laugh at u not with u ....like dean and the rat pack

  • Never thought they would stop people from smoking like they have but boy does it look strange to see all them lighting up!!! I remember when you could light a cigarette in a hospital and stamp the butt out in the floor!!! How times have changed!!!!!!

  • so many great stars, today we have garbage.

  • my father has very similer humour to these guys..so ive been brought up with this around me all my life....and when i go out and behave in the way these guys do people think im weird...im also sick of comics these days ...but also people in general ,its just not like the old days

  • ippster1 and TenderTrap86 are perfect examples of how every generation will trash later generations and glorify their own. But that also means that generations before them thrashed the generation(s) the two of them belong to. They also had the likes of Lenny Bruce, Don Rickles, Buddy Hackett and others who were considered "obnoxious" and "disgusting" by many small-minded, uptight a-holes. So many comedians from the 50's-70's, even the 80's, were so whitebread, corny & afraid to be topical.

  • I remember watching these. These were wonderful and extremely funny. Get a kick, now, of seeing them smoking on the dais!!!! Don't know if I even missed one. Foster Brooks just killed me!! LOL I would love to buy the DVD set of all the roasts (51, last one in 1984 for Michael Landon); and I just may order them very soon!!

  • I would have to agree, the comedians way back then, show just how much class they have to the comedians of today.

  • Thanks Johnny

  • The good old days.

  • its amazing how hysterical these guys were without having to resort to using any foul language! --Todays comedieans every other word outta their mouth is F*CK!

  • i wish to hell i'd have lived in this era. this is pure comedy.

  • OH MY GOD dean martin iz my new inspiration i wanna cry just known i wuznt raised at dis time todayz comedy aint even comedy i kall it more like teenage lives that nobody gives a shit bout but wow i really wish i wuz born at this time with dean martin and them oh my god ='(

  • the funny thing is all these ppl bitching about todays comedians, congrats you became your grandparents

  • @PsychicStoner So true.

  • @PsychicStoner Well put Psychic. People complain too much. Each generation has great musicans and comedians, and each generation has garbage as well. But always harping about the "Good ol' days, and that EVERYTHING today sucks, well, you're just a tired old crank. Wake up. And I'm no spring chicken. I'll be 43 soon.

  • Anyone else wish we could go back to the 60's and 70's and stay?

  • @40Rtruss Everyday,,,,,,,,,,everyday. Those were truly the most innocent and best of times....

  • @40Rtruss YES i am 13 and i believe i was born in the wrong time i wish i could have been there to see them live

  • @TheDeanmartinfan1 Same, and I'm 15.

  • @40Rtruss You better believe it !!

  • @40Rtruss yeah

  • @40Rtruss no

  • @40Rtruss I do.

  • @40Rtruss I also wish.

  • @40Rtruss Great times in America, if you were White....

  • @40Rtruss Personally, I would like to spend my entire life in the years from about 1953 to 1966...Great Years

when the wages -vs- cost of living were strong, the country was strong,...we didn't have the moral degredation

and the reprobates in gov't (at all levels, now)....at least not to the extent as today.....Actually, I think I'd rather go

back to the 30's...when they built Real cars with character, and Steam was still king of the rails...and people had jobs...with No Computers.

  • How I wish for the yesterdays.

  • @starr522 Me too. They were certainly the good old days of entertainment.

  • lol

  • Dynamite! Todays culture is in for a RUDE awakening when 40 years from NOW...NO one will remember it!

  • the roasts here are better than the shit u see on comedy centrall.

  • I agree 100%

  • carson was painfully shy .

so self conscience that he avoided people.

really he had no friends or social life.

but he was a bit of an intellectual and loved having capote and gore vidal , 2 great writers and true brilliant men,on his show and would go out to dinner with both.

his last wife was trumans best friend late in his life.

  • "originated the idea of roasting people" wow sickkkkkkk ...

  • how do i download these dean martin clips.

  • @shark2006pool go to savevid.com its easy

  • make two wives dissapear hahahahahahaha

  • Now that is entertainment

  • Jonathan Winters-the first Larry the Cable guy. Nothing is really new....

  • Wow that's when people could smoke and smoke and smoke in T.V.

  • Comedy at its finest. Unfortunately, there will never be anything like it again

  • Would a comic get away with a gag like 'roasting people' these days? I wonder.

  • go to heaven go directly to heaven

do not pass go just go to heaven what a blast thanks!

  • i rofld at jonathan winters one and when the good senator came and said guest hosting his tv show is an honor which comes to every american sometime. its like jury duty. rofl madddddd

  • Good comedy!! Funny !!

    Today's 'comedians' are just crude.

  • the 70s look so amazing dean redd foxx michael jackson frank sinatra sammy davis richard pryor and more :D

  • He`s dead

  • thanks

  • Carson is just a memory now !

  • @alwaysyiurweigh

I know exactly what you mean. My family did too just like yours. We all watch Carson together. Then one day everything chanced without him. People got used to being pit to sleep by Carson.

  • Why are they bringing leno back, he failed with me. Geez Conan numbers must have been really bad to become so desperate as to have to bring back the loud, not mild manner, lacks sophistcation and education Jay Leno, the Italian meatball with no taste in his own mouth.

  • They just not found the right replacement for Carson. Leno is too not funny and not educated well enough, and lacks a sophisticated character that Carson had, leno is just too loud and not at all mild manner, letterman is just a waste of time, he just wants to be politically positioned and smash the political party that isn't his, lettermann is just not humorous, he makes his political views known more than he has funny material.

  • ehh letterman is funny and carson liked him.

  • Thanks for this post,is treasure,I laugh my ass off ,just amazing!

  • That's Doc Sevrenson? He looks like Sonny Bono!

  • Comment removed

  • I still miss Johnny on the tonight show, it hasn't been the same since he left.

Many happy memories watching that show with my Mom and Dad and little brothers for so many years. It always makes me smile thinking of him and those times.

  • wow whoever made this, sure kept getting on AOL and leaving. "Welcome" .. "Goodbye" xD

  • NO AUDIO

  • its mono

  • Oh wow! this takes us a long way back! Really, those were the days!

Well done and thanks for the memories

  • Dionne Warwick's expression @10:16 is priceless

  • Woah! Truman Capote!!

  • waaayyyy corny, but well worth the watch for all the celebs. thx so much for posting! :-)

  • not corny; just good fun with wit and humor, from true stars who know their crafts.

  • Awe Red Foxx The True Original King oF Comedy!

  • whoever posted this... THANK YOU!

  • dean is so funny

  • There is sadly nothing like this anymore. This was real comedy.

  • @michaelteter ain't that a kick in the head?

  • i'll remember this evening...for as long as it takes for me to get to my car

  • Hysterical! You have to be over 50 to know who most of these people. What a classic piece of history. So many of my favorite comedians.

  • lycolovelies: No you don't have to be over 50 to know who these people are, you just need a close family unit of parents & grandparents who would have found it important enough to have shared this great entertainment with each successive generation:)

  • @ mycreature: amen!

  • @lycolovelies Huh? I know every single person up there and I'm only 38. I grew up watching these people. I also know the generation of celebrities preceding this one like Bogart, Jean Harlow, Errol Flynn, etc. Most had died years before I was born. I guess it comes down to personal interests/tastes. I know a few shallow people who don't even know much about their own generation. They're aware of only the most popular and ubiquitous celebrities, films and music.

  • i didnt mind the editing or sound effects...

  • I love Doc's roast, he's hilarious in his own right.

  • HORRHENDOUS editing!

  • Ditto. There were so many funny people there and George most likely edited out the best of the funny stuff.

  • I hear ya, DIKELSEY, but what I was really referring to was his editing technique (actually, lack thereof)... just chop chop chop!

  • One word - Fantastic!

  • i love dean martin roast they are so funny. don rickles is always at the roast.

  • 10:08

    OMG!

  • dean is so funny

  • this is by far one of the best singers from the old days i love. i'm 37 and have almost all of his music. i think is best movie role was rio bravo. there's a great scene were dean and ricky nelson sing togather in the movie that stands the test of time. what a great voice he had

  • This is classic.

    Those stars were real entertainers.

Legends who get better with time who will be just as loved by the generations of people yet to come.

Johnny, Dean and the others will always be true Hollywood.

Thank you for sharing this with us.

    George Vreeland Hill

  • his ancestors originated the idea of roasting people.....LMAO

  • Classic stuff...but the funniest one to me was Johnny himself. I know he probably had writers write his jokes, but they were the funniest ones to me. Loved all the guests though. Thanks for sharing !!!

  • he's so tanked, haha

  • Priceless, just priceless!!

  • Check out what he says at the end of his speech....about roasting a dude. Classic, but, if anyone told that joke now, there would be rioting in the streets.

  • True. The Dean Martin roasts were "public", and were aired on television. The Friar's Club roasts, on the other hand, were "private", and contained vulgarity and profanity.

But still, I am inclined to think that even the Friar's Club roasts were funnier than any of the crap that comes out of Comedy Central. Comedy today as a genre is in a different league than what is was in the 1970s. I would like to see a group of people today try to "top" these guys. Which chances are, won't happen.

  • These roasts were just as vulgar as the roasts today. They had the "public" roast, and the "private" roast...the private roasts were off the chain, they used EVERY cuss word in the book.

Nowadays it's just right up front.

And the OLD WOMEN who are complaining here, if they don't like vulgar comedy...?...should go watch "Touched By An Angel" and shut the hell up.

  • are the private roasts posted on youtube?

  • Why is Barry Goldwater in all these roasts?

  • I just turned 24....and even I know that THIS is what comedy is!

  • I have to agree with you Ippster. It seems that today's comedians don't have the wit or intelligence to keep audiences laughing at their seats. They have no distinct ability or unique trait, they just follow like sheep and hope to get better deals when they see them. Most comedians these days are the same, they don't really have anything new to offer. In general, they don't have a clue.

The Dean Martin Roasts, on the other hand, had real actors. They knew what they were doing, and it shows.

  • today's comedians are not really funny, they are more obnoxious than anything else. I wish they really would watch some of these clips and learn something from them. These are funny, I don't waste my time watching the roast on Comedy Central, they are just awful, no humor, nothing funny at all, they are not comedians as much as foul mouthed wannabes.

  • @ippster1 i must agree with you, most comady now is just bashing on something that someone did, of corse i was never in the era, sense i was too young, i miss monty python type humer, the nonsense but at the same time we can relect, now ive only looked up this stuff becues i saw it on tv XD but i know it will be good becues it has the greatest comady minds of the decaid

  • @ippster1 You took the words right ou of my mouth. It's more exhibition than entertainment these days.

  • @ippster1 - Amen.

  • @ippster1 sooo true man i really cant find any comedians nowadays that have any talent. my gfs whole family is into dane cook. ive never heard a more obnoxious comedian in my life. all he does is scream and im suppose to think this is funny. the only one i can find who is still good is ron white. o well always have the classics :)

  • Has anyone ever noticed how charming any of these old school comedians are when they are just talking off the cuff, whether it's here or a talk show? Most of today's comics are totally disgusting and are usually not that funny when they are just talking freely.

  • TRUMAN CAPOTE!

  • " I will remember this evening probably as long as it takes me to get to my car!"

What a great closing line! Carson was simply the best!

  • I think the comedy central roasts are absolutely hysterical...

  • The comedy central roasts are low grade trash. Filth and not even funny.

  • Wow, George Burns...AWESOME! I bet 99.99% of all kids today, sadly, couldn't even tell you that he was a comedian, because they simply don't care for actual GOOD humor like in all the roasts that Martin did. Take today's roasts on Comedy Central these days...all of them, AWFUL!

  • I would like to say that I am Seventeen years old and I know who George and Gracie are and I totally agree that the 'humor' of today is TOTAL CRAP!

  • @msu2k9 No, 98% of them won't even understand what the comedians are saying.

  • classic!!!!!!
