people calm down Gold/Ethan didn't defeat Red. What happens is that when Gold/Ethan got to the top of Mt. silver and saw Red standing there he entered in a state of coma for staring at him the whole battle with him was a product of his mind while on coma.
I've read a lot of comments about this Gold beating Red and whatever, so I'll join in. First off, Red only did all the ledgendary stuff he did because YOU were controlling him. Then, when you let him go his own way, he went to the mountain and became 'a badass who didn't have to eat or heal for three years', yes, then he was defeated by Gold, who YOU'D been controlling throughout the whole game to make his Pokemon stronger than Red's and beat him.

@Posby95 Yeah, but neither was I arguing with you. About the games, yeah, Gold in the games is well, the guy with most achivements. But I was just pointing out that this obsession about Red began in the manga, so while the character based on manga Gold may seem better than Red, it's only for gameplay reasons. I mean, would you like if the game just sent an invencible boss, and by invencible I mean really invencible, right at the very end to be "consistent with the manga"? I think not.

@Gogito4 Gold is comedic excellence in the manga >.< Although i think Ruby could be considered one of the toughest Dex Holders, since he has that Battling skill in his blood. Red is my second fave charac from the PokeSpe Cast, second to Ruby XD

I mean, Red didn't loose ONCE in a fair fight, the one time he lost he was ambushed by Lorelei. Conversily, I think maybe Red was made a little overpowered in the manga, just like they made Yellow's powers GOD TIER, it kinda eclipsed any chance of other characters standing up to them.I mean, Mewtwo? @EraOfLegends 3 Dragons, Fire, Grass, and Water huh? That's not the best team. I'd have at least one or two dragons in my teams but it's not always a good idea to raise dragons all the time. Sure they're very powerful. Flygon, Dragonite, Salamence? I could use Giratina, Dialga, and Palkia against you. Dragon flying/ Ground Dragon-ice, rock, dragon. Water-electric,and grass. Grass- Fire, Ice, Flying, Bug, Poison. Fire- Ground, Rock, Water.

@ETNIFA If type match-ups are not used you don't get an advantage when battling someone. What,you expect me to put myself in a disposition during a battle? I basically do use type match-ups, but for most pokemon. Pokemon like Sableye and Spiritomb, I would use fire, because it seems pretty good to use..

I've read a lot of comments about this Gold beating Red and whatever, so I'll join in. First off, Red only did all the ledgendary stuff he did because YOU were controlling him. Then, when you let him go his own way, he went to the mountain and became 'a badass who didn't have to eat or heal for three years', yes, then he was defeated by Gold, who YOU'D been controlling throughout the whole game to make his Pokemon stronger than Red's and beat him.
So we're all more badass than Red or Gold!

when i first played gold and silver i was like oh boy
i thought red was gonna give me a gift for working so hard
and training all my pokemon to level 50.
i did get something.
he gave me my ass and then i went to the pokemon center, got my pokemon healed and ran around doing nothing untill the other week when i beat him in HGSS with 19 tries level.70 pokemon.
and i was on my last pokemon, my raticate, level 40.
quick attacked my way out of dying for the 20 time.
such a weird story..
