as someone's pointed out it looks like a black pudding. i reckon it's an in joke; in his war diaries there's a story where one of Spike's mates played a trick on him where he took some brown paper, wet it to make it look like a turd and planted it in Spike's bed with a calling card which said "The phantom strikes again". the first time i read that i was on a plane, travelling alone and i sat and laughed for about 10 minutes

Mad as a cut snake. I remember the There's A Lot Of It About series being a lot funnier than the old Q programmes, probably because he had Marshall and Renwick on board, both fine comedy writers in their day - I loved Whoops Apocalypse and End of Part One!
