I remember reading about the Baxter suit promo in Jerry's book. He said that for all the years Lance Russell had been the spokesman for Baxter, all they gave him was one suit.
I used to love watching this stuff on Saturday mornings before my baseball games. Lawler kind of set the tone for southern wrestling back then. I was working a Monday Night Raw not long ago in Nashville and you would not believe the old faces sitting around a table in the hospitality room.
In early 1977, it was Lawler who went to Channel 5 to get their interest in wrestling (this channel actually had the wrestling in the 50's, till about 1962). Jerry Jarrett had split from Nick Gulas and Lawler and Jarrett formed a new promotion, and Channel 5 took them on. Gulas stayed at Channel 13 (Where, believe it or not, Lance Russell was the programming manager for this then-ABC affiliate). Gulas eventually left Memphis; he could not compete with the new organizaion.
I'm just 30, so I don't know a whole lot about the split in 1977. Did Lance stay with Gulas for a while and then move over to Channel 5? I thought Russell and Brown were together from the early 70s straight through until Lance left for the WCW in 1992 (ish).
This is great stuff! What was the deal with Lance and the Channel 13/Channel 5 switch? It sounds like he was out of the game for a while, and who is the guy sitting at the announcer's table? It doesn't look like Dave Brown.
It sure isn't the weather man.. d dbrown.."he will be counting clouds in some other city"- BILLY JACK HAYNES.. Yeah, Lance Romance... went to the competitor for a minute!

Look at Lance's face when Jerry grabs his nose...hilarious. I miss it so much.

Lawler was never in good shape. It's pretty funny.

@stovall1- when they first started on ch. 5 neither Lance nor Dave were on there.
@Lillian2167- I completely agree.

That was the guy that's in the other Lawler promo video on here: Lawler asks him, "How you doin' today, ugly?"
