If it doesn't matter I wonder why not just dump the beginning of, say, YEM and skip right to the funk jam? People who love a band hear the songs and anticipate the next part. If its flubbed its a buzzkill.
@DJnickbeta A documentry of Phish filmed in 1997-1998 which chronicles Phish doing whatever including there 1998 tour of Europe and footage from their 1997 festival The Great Went. It also shows the surprising side of Trey Anastasio. It's called Bittersweet Motel.
I love this band, but after seeing this video, I can see how people despise this band and their music. They're not for everybody--which is a good thing.
@hyperness42 hahaha this is great. i was bored so i watched it again. (btdubs, ur lookin sharp in ur new shirt. as sharp as the dudes in the front row)
Wow, it seems Trey has been the most unfortunate recipient of Unofficial Probation Officers. What's even more unfortunate is that these people will go to any length for a Show. I swear the dialogue I've seen about this matter would be welcomed instantly in most gossip mags. Dude, if you really like Phish and have any fucking clue as to the anguish involved in kicking opiates, then you would keep your US Weekly style Gossip in PT were countless other fucks will engage in and continue this shit
@Coventrey What about this clip does not show his drug problem? The coked out "uhhhhhhhhhhhhhh" noises, his ridiculous rant about the unimportantness of playing accurately, to name two things
@mjuellarsen .....all assumptions, and stupid ones at that. Phish NEVER cared about what critics or fans thought of their "accuracy" in hitting sections or segues. When you improvise and play with the freedom they do, it's not about playing perfectly. And Trey has always stumbled in interviews. If someone says "uhhh" or "ummm" when talking, does that make them "coked out"?? You are a straight-up idiot....
@Coventrey I totally agree that it's not about playing perfectly, but giving up on accuracy altogether (as Trey arguably did toward the end of the 2.0 era) resulted in musically sloppy and aurally unpleasant playing. There's a difference between fumbling for words and making coke noises. I agree that it's a matter of opinion which one he's doing here ... why not try to be friendlier, though?
I'm not going to be "friendly" to someone who makes bold and unwarranted drug accusations. You're a fool. The point of this clip was to get a laugh, and you bring coke into it. This DVD showcased Phish through some of their best years. I could see if you commented on a Coventry clip or something, but come on man... get a life..
@Coventrey Obviously we disagree about when Trey's drug problem began in earnest, and I'm more partial to summer '95 and '96 when discussing the best years. As for your armchair assessments of my intelligence, there's no high ground here; we're both involved in an internet flamewar about a music clip. Maybe you should quit beating your chest and just chill.
when I saw page live solo we all sang "We love page's new shirt" to him when he came out. he had no idea what we were doing, he obviously hasn't seen bittersweet in quite some time haha. He looked down at his shirt and looked confused hahah. Love you page!
I wanna say that Trey's whole bit about not nailing all the changes and get through a whole set is because he's pissed that Brad would challenge him. Even though he was great Trey was a hardheaded musician.. and a fucking amazing one at that.
While I enjoy this clip as much as anyone, listen closely to it and you will learn a clue as to why Phish had to quit. The line "people don't come to see us get through all the sections perfectly" shows just how far Trey has become disconnected with the audience. While we were all there for the energy, there were a significant amount of us there to see them nail the composed sections. They used to be able to pull it off. Late nineties - early 2000's, not so much. They got sloppy.
they pulled it off in 97 though. he's right too...it's not about them making it through all the sections, and if you really care about that...ok, but it's not the point.
totally agree. Trey said during his acceptance speech that Phish was much bigger than the 4 of them. A show isn't about playing perfect. It's about everyone having a good time...especially the band.
the crowd changed too. I think we expected to much. We were holding on to the YEM of 92. I bet they got tired of playing that shit all the time. Those who caught the last wave joined the diehards that could'nt let go of their simplier past. I'm glad to see everyone is getting on with their life. So long PHISH.
he calls him a tool, cuz thats brad who said they missed a few hits through their sections... lol ...he had no idea what was comin... "ready in 5min"............then the famous line...get out out of here u fuckin tool
Id like to say that mike gordon should use Lsd. He is just about the most bad ass bassist I have ever heard aside from jazz music and those who wander inbetween jazz music and rock/funk. That guy should take a good 250 mics of lsd. Take some acid mike! trey and john were never shitting you.
"Trey is one very tripped out guy. Hes the kinda guy I could trip with. Not many people out there like that. Hes very funny too. Im not saying that only because they are one of my favorite bands. Same goes for fishman. He probably knows more about lsd humor than I do, possibly. 5 thumbs up for these nutty guys."
