I heard this was originally going to be called "War Wizards" but that George Lucas asked Ralph Bakshi to take the work "War" out because he was doing "Star Wars" to be released around the same tim and didn't want people thinking there was some connection.

He did Wizards at the same time doing Star Wars since Fox distributed both. He's also Joker in the Batman animated series and a voice for the new 2004 dub of Hayao Miyazaki's PG-rated Wizards-esque Sci-fi/fantasy masterpiece Nausicaa of the Valley of the Winds (a.k.a. Warriors of the Winds) feature.

Yeah I know he did the Joker (my favorite version and performance of the character possibly better than Luke Skywalker) and he did that Avatar the Last Airbender show as the Fire Lord among many other roles, but I never watched Nausicaa so I never got to hear him. I might check that out. Thanks for the tip.

Yeah, apparently the original name of this movie was War Wizards. Lucas asked Bakshi to change it so it wouldn't confuse people with Star Wars. Bakshi changed it to just Wizards and got Hamill in return.

@Bfdidc It happens that both films were produced at the same studio ( 20th Century Fox ) at about the same time ( 1975/6 ) , so that story is perfectly credible. I do notice that hey both happen to have some pretty simmilar ideas too,.. like, most notably, people riding upon saddled alien beasts.

the only thing that bugs me about this scene is how fast they capture elanor after sean gets shot. Its a little confusing at first. Bakshi coulda took a little more time explaing what was happening in that scene. Although I do fine Avatar's "Marrel Krinkle Frazetta" chant amusing. I wonder if that was a nod to Frank Frazetta.

Most agree, if you like this one check out Fist of the North Star for another kickass but similar adult animated movie that combines Sci-fi/action/fantasy like this one and also set in a post-apocalyptic future after a nuclear holocaust where mutants and tyrants rule where two magical brothers fight for world supremecy as one wants to heal the world while the other wants to rule it. It's very graphic with exploding heads and mutilations.

This is my favorite scene in this adult animated cult classic. I love how Weehawk and Peace fight a big monster in the cave surrounded by a colorful, psychedelic background. This is not a kiddie flick, but older people may enjoy this unusual animated experience. I thought I may hate this, but I really appreciate this.
