  • Has anybody ever told you that you sound quite a bit like Julia Roberts....

  • @calionstallion :o)

  • The goverment and bigger people are trying to make this country ''AMERICA'' a wolrd country and with success i might ad they have done it very well. Being a wrold country patriatism is not allowed for the country that is native to its oregion. The next step is obvious once they have afew countries like this they will try a world goverment wich has been openly suggested by many presidents including the current one.

  • @dunn98632 I don't entirely understand the point you are trying to make with "world government." Are you talking in the sense of taking over the world... like the English Empire once was ("the sun never sets on England"). The U.S. has had multiple opportunities to be a "world government" in as simple examples of taking Canada or Cuba. If anything, the US works to protect other countries from being taken over by other countries. There are many many examples of this.

  • What are you proud of??, living in an oligarky, who go for wars just for the selfish greed? Support israel no matter how bad it acts? spreading lies about the rest of the world and why you do things?? I can go on for a long time...

I can understand you might be proud of certain good things with people and some culture but not politics.

  • So why is it that you are proud to be an American? Are you saying that if some one is French or from Bangladesh should be less proud to be from where ever they are from?

My website ends up with USA and one of my channels [SKUNKworksUSA] that being said I never utter the phrase [I Am proud to be a American] unless I am looking for a fight & that would be true for Germans or the Japanese...just imagine, right in the midst of a conversation some foreigner cuts you of and tells you that he is right

  • @Gaus212 because he is German and [loudly] he says[ Deutschland uber alles] basically all he said that he is proud to be a German even though it loosely translates [Germany better then all] ...

You would call him Nazi...dont be surprised when you say [I am proud to be an American] that they would equate you to a redneck, cause educated people never say that but live their lives in such way, so other people can say [I am proud to befriend an American]:-)

    Respect

    Gaus

  • Really!!! What about your America's' International foreign policy. Do you know any thing about it? did you know during the Intl Conference Against Racism in 2002 the U.S walked out? or let's see what about the condition that Iran most of it IT IS the fault of U.S & UK during 1953. You might want to brush up on your history.

  • Why do you assume I do not know the details of said events you present? Why do you assume I need to brush up on my history? Your perceptions and assumptions are proving my frustrations.

  • @Elaheh1naz, well, she might have a graduate degree and could be married to someone with very strong ties to the U.S. Gov... sounds like you might want to find a new country to live in... America might not be a good fit for you.

  • you play an important role in that perception. what you do today, in panama. most people don't realize that what they do while at home also determines people's perceptions. i detect little respect for someone who denigrates their nation of origin, regardless of its flaws. just like most people, there's good and bad, but i like to think my actions at home and abroad are taken with consideration of making it a better place, in my view and the view of others.

  • You know, what I saw here in Vancouver CANADA, where I live during the Winter Olympics is quite the opposite from what you describe. There were thousands of Americans sporting their red white and blue jackets, bandanas, sweaters, t-shirts, whatever, cheering on their team. Personally, I don't care if they do if it makes them feel better. From what I saw, none of the locals put them down or attacked them. If a Muslim can wear the veil or the headscarf, then an American should wear what they want

  • this is a very important concept to grasp:

    country =/= nation-state.

also, I'd be careful about expanding the definition of "where you come from" to be the entire land mass sectioned off and called the "united states of america" I was born in a hospital, not of my choosing in a city where I had no control over the "character" of that city. While its true that I was born in the region known as the U.S. its not that much more accurate/specific than saying I was born on earth.

  • @PsychSyke, what the hell are you talking about?

You say "As an American I'm not allowed to be patriotic, I'm suppose to be ashamed, I can't be proud of my country... if I say I'm proud to be an American, I'm a bigot, I'm a racist, I'm a redneck, I'm a Republican".

Who says you can't be patriotic/proud or have to be ashamed or labelled?

    It's all in your mind.

That being said, there are parts of the world where advertising US citizenship is not advisable. Is that what you're on about?

  • @ZangaroZen I think you may have missed my point. This was spoken in a sarcastic tone. I don't believe the quoted statement. I was only giving examples of what people are saying about Americans.

  • @PsychSyke, if these are "examples of what people ar saying about Americans" then you're not being sarcastic, and seem more then ever complaining about the situation.

Why do you suppose various foreigners say such things about Americans and have a hatred towards them?

  • You say, "As an American I'm not allowed to be patriotic." I've watched The Resident's videos, I don't think she says Americans are not allowed to be patriotic, but she does point out flaws in the USA. No nation is flawless. As you mentioned, Europeans introduce you to their country, both the good and the bad, yet can be proud of their country. There are many things to be proud of in the USA, but being patriotic doesn't mean that one should turn a blind eye to a country's problems.

  • @EvilUmpire I totally agree with you. My video response, I guess, is more geared toward the thousands of comments that I'm reading on many vids accross YouTube that are bashing and generalizing Americans negatively.

  • @PsychSyke not all People outside our country have any clue what America is about. There are a great number out there that makes their assumptions based off of our politicians, what they see on youtube, in TV and Movies. Though they may be in their own right to have their own opinion it may not right. Its your job as an American living abroad as you said to act as an Ambassador to our nation and show everyone that we are proud of our country even the few knuckle heads that we got.

  • @PsychSyke Oh yeah... Youtube dont count....

  • Dont worry about what others say. BE PROUD THAT YOU ARE AN AMERICAN!!
