@JeremyRemixes the reason why it didn't make on Bella Donna was because her best friend Robin Anderson died of leukemia she decided to hold it back to put it on Mirage. That's the true. It wasn't due to Tom Petty at all.
this is one of those songs that just doesn't sound right without the rest of FM...it makes you really miss Lindsey's guitar and backing vocals...still this is pretty good :D
I never knew this was originally intended for "Bella Donna" .. and agree the Mac's version is miles better. Lindsay's solo, missing of course from this version, makes the hairs on my neck stand up. Still, great to hear this!!

Absolutely. the three interleaving guitar parts on the extro are what ends up pushing the Fleetwood Mac version of the song over the top. And the backing vocal "lightning strikes, maybe once maybe twice" which seems like a Lindsey Buckingham phrasing, though what I like most about Stevie Nicks is her phrasing. Wonder who influenced whose phrasing?
@22infection it was intended for Bella Donna in 1981 but I don't think she liked the direction Tom Petty was taking it personally... so she pulled it and saved it for Fleetwood Mac's Mirage album the next year. Stevie has been known to pull songs out of the running when she feels like they aren't going the right way.. and I think Fleetwood Mac did a better job with it. This is still cool though.. especially the "do do do"s
