  • LOVE YOU!!!

  • she should sue her facial surgeon.

  • You gotta admit, finding out that she's really Lezzie Gore kinda destroys the whole concept of her act. It's like finding out the real story about the Lone Ranger and Tonto.

  • WOW!! She looks GREAT! Thanks for posting! :)

  • what year was this?

  • kinda reminds me of Patty Duke

  • Doesn't Melissa Etheridge sound just like Lesley when she talks? Look it up for yourself and get back to me. Just enter Melissa Etheridge Interview here on youtube and tell me that these two ladies don't sound alike when they talk!

  • @lalba07 Maybe she come from the same part of the country as Melissa Etheridge then, I knew a lady that sounded like Barbara Streisand when she talked that came from Massachuttes.Met some other lady with an accent like Dolly Parton so they have reginal accents.

  • @hydrolito Lesley was born in New York on May 2, 1946. A couple of years later when her brother was born, they family moved to Tenafly, New Jersey. Today, she lives in New York. Her mom sold the New Jersey home and now lives in Florida.

  • LONG LIVE LESLEY GORE!!!!!!

  • Shes Dynamite, loved her sound,no wonder it was so good Quincy Produced her...Great songs, and she looks actually better now ..she grew her into her face, sexy lady, still sing great..

  • Lesley, still beautiful, always interesting, unforgettable talent. Love you always sweet lady.

  • she is truely amazing love you lesley gore (:

  • Has her voice always been this deep?

  • I've always been in love with Leslie but she's way too young for me.

  • @McGrottomaster shes too gay too she admitted shes a lesbo !!i know i cant belive it either !!!..

  • @angiebaby332 Now *that* bursts my bubble!

  • @angiebaby332 I can't belive it that that it matters what her sexual orientation is..the word by the way is "lesbian". This is 2011 not 1960.

  • are my eyes deceiving me, or is that a picture of BILLIE HOLIDAY they're showing when Lesley says "Sarah Vaughan"??? lol

  • Fascinating

  • "easily a third of the show" - couldn't she at least SAY they're HALF* the show at least LOL

  • Lesley I fell in love you the very first time I heard you sing I was hooked way back in 1965 you were my first love! Kudos forever to you!

  • Lesley, I'm in love with you now. Fascinating and beautiful - and I'm totally into your voice too! Maybe I'm in love with your voice, no?

  • Singers, listen to Leslies's advice!! I like how she described how the tracks were laid down---less room for mistakes, that's for sure!!

  • I just heard her song (you dont owe me) on the nfl channel. Right away i fell in love with her voice. Looking at all her old videos, she was one fine singer, even now she has it!! much love Lesley!

  • A legend because she's talented, bright, a survivor, and prepared.

  • Boy, does she age well! I'm 10 years younger and look 20 years older!!! I've been in love with her for more than 45 years, and wish her and her partner many more happy years together. Thank you, Lesley, for so many happy memories.

  • @skudaarkaat1 I love her too; but she has not aged well. I didn't even know who she was. Well, it happens to us all. Glad she is happy and healthy.

  • @bdboydean I think she looks great! I knew who she was and I think she's better looking now. Remember, it's been more than 45 years since It's My Party.

  • @1959buddyh - WHAT do you want her to look like - 23? She's a great performer, she hasn't had everything lifted and snipped and injected and to me she looks like an attractive mature woman who is a GREAT performer. At least she looks natural and comes across as well adjusted, intelligent and extremely musically talented. To say that someone "looks horrible now" is a worthless comment. I hope some Lesley fans out there will give me a thumbs up for saying this.

  • @Johnny

    agree all the way

  • @JohnnyGNV I agree Holy God its been over 40 years, and like you said she looks real. God Bless her.

  • @bdboydean- she's in her mid-60's! you don't think she aged well!?

  • @mnmcv1 So she didn't get plastic surgery like Jane Fonda, Cher, or Joan Rivers what do you expect someone in their 60's to look like?

  • @hydrolito - i think you're mistaken- i was replying to someone who said she didnt age well. I said "you don't think she aged well?" I think she looks great!

  • i forget how beautiful she was

  • @robinhoodtn1 Lesley is still touring. You can see her tour schedule at lesleygorefanclubdotcom OR lesleygoredotcom. Lesley is very warm and friendly and loves to meet her fans after her performance.

  • shes admits on wikipedia that shes a lesbisan!!!!!

  • @destiny9034 and? we're in 2011 get over it.

  • @DazedNC0nfuzed it doesnt matter people still need to have dignity even noe in 2011!!!

  • She looks great and I love this interview. Thanks!

  • Though she's an admitted lesbian, would love to have a relationship with her!

  • Lesley is one of the few artists of the early 60s who survived the British Invasion. Her song, You Don't Own Me hit the number two spot.....the Beatles were at number one and number three.

  • She's just being honest, without make-up, without pretense. I wish I had her in my arms right now.

  • Fell in love with her years ago , around 1936 at a place called Freedomland in the Bronx . Seeing her tonight at the Palm Springs Follies !

  • @Joeinps That would be 1963 and not 1936. ;)

  • @DominickFontana Thanks...althought sometimes I feel that old !

  • @Joeinps Haha. Without dating myself, I remember Freedomland, too. It was only around for 2 years and went out of business when the World's Fair came in 1964-1965. I saw Tony Bennet there sing I Left My Heart in San Francisco. Freedomland is now Co-Op City. Nice memories, huh.

  • LESLEY GORE WAS THE QUEEN OF POP IN HER ERA.

  • she's good

  • I can't help it...I LOVE Lesley Gore! If you ever get the chance, watch her segment in The Legendary Ladies of Rock & Roll. It was an HBO special in the 80's, and her performances of You Don't Own Me and It's My Party are remarkable! The root of all her success is her incredible vocal talent. She is, and always has been, the real deal.

  • wow she is AGING so damm well...i always love 2 c old artists who is still alive actively doing interviews now xD also what grandma leslie says about american idol is true...that is not a proper way 2 shoot up 2 stardom most of the time haha xP

  • @szewei85 Agree. Lesley is still out there performing and sounding great!

  • OOPS, meant to say "has" rather than "had" on third line. So sorry.

  • I forgot to say - look at her face and neck. IF, and I say IF she's had work done it's been minimal. She looks great, doesn't appear plasticized, and in my mind doesn't look 63. I've never met her but she must be one superb human being living life the right way.

  • I absolutely love her. And...she still has that great hair!!!!

  • @steviethecat - I agree. And those eyes! To die for. Someone told me the other day she reminded him of Patty Duke. I can see the resemblance. The eye color especially. Yes, and I love that hair. Can you say thick? I also love how she is SO animated in this interview with all the hand, body and head movements. She is, in my opinion, one of the best things since sliced bread.

  • @argerichluvr----I totally agree with everything you said. Yes, those gorgeous eyes. She's such a doll!! I'm so glad to know that she's so sweet too.

  • @steviethecat - So you've met her? If so, I'm TOTALLY jealous. She is an icon who will never be forgotten. She had made a great mark on the music scene without all the hoopla. And don't you find it interesting she has not been in the extreme forefront for a long time but has maintained the following she has? I compare her life to a ship sailing on smooth waters, albeit her life was not always so smooth. Sure, she's had some challenges to face but she "sailed" through them. She's my hero.

  • @argerichluvr

Why you so mean to people of color? Come on, let's be friends. Kiss and make up?

  • Comment removed

  • @argerichluvr

Ok, I just want to make you happy.

  • OMG.....you didn't age well. You look like a guy, Leslie. Just being honest.

  • leslie gore was the queen of music back in her day. she had a lot of hit songs. she would be the equivalent in her day to a janet or madonna

  • @YOU2UUB Yes, Lesley proved that she wasn't a "one-hit" wonder in the 60s. She had 19 chart singles, nine Mercury Records albums. Some say she could have been an even bigger success had she devoted all her time to her career. However, she decided to finish high school then go on to college devoting most of her time to schooling.

  • @stevemichaels2020 - Hi, great msg. Jodie Foster did something similar by attending Yale. It's nice to know everyone is permitted to have his/her priorities in place and have them materialize. I also thank you again for mentioning her 19 chart singles with 9 Mercury albums. Not bad for a kid, huh? It sounds after reading your posts you are quite the expert on Lesley. I'd love to pick your brain sometime and find out more about her! Thanks.

  • BOTOX FTW -.-

  • she looks FABULOUS! i love leslie because of my older sister, too. grew up with this stuff. i would see her in concert in a heartbeat!

  • she looks FABULOUS!

  • It's Lezzie Gore !

  • Leslie, you may not own me, but I'd submit if you gave it your best shot. A legend of our times!

  • great interview - thanks for posting

  • Still a fan (fanatic) 50 years down the road.

  • I wonder if Quincy hit that.

  • @sigzor85

Highly likely that he did because he was known as

being quite the playboy. She is a lesbian, that would

    not stop Q.

  • wood plow.

  • Maybe an old "urban myth", but we heard when she came on the scene that she was from San Francisco. Her wealthy father made a bet with his wealthy friends that he had enough money to make his daughter, Leslie, a star. If so, he won.

Personally, she always seemed like a hard person, not the sweet girl guys like me would date.

  • @UtahCarl Lesley was born in New York City. The family home was in Tenafly, New Jersey. Much of the stories about Lesley came from a wealthy family are false. Leo Gore was a manufacturer of women's bras and girdles. Lesley's success was from hard work, great producer (Quincy Jones), great arranger (Claus Ogerman); great writers. Source: A&E Biography: Lesley Gore: It's Still Her Party.

  • @stevemichaels2020 WOW. I thought I was the only one who knew that about her father Leo. My late aunt worked for with/for him back in the late 50s & early 60s. I think the firm was Peter Pan. My aunt was at a co workers kids wedding sitting with Leo & his wife, I think Ronnie. I have a photo of all of them. Leslie was already famous, my aunt asked Leo if would ask Leslie to mail me an autographed photo. He did, she did and I still have it today. Great person from a great family.

  • @stevemichaels2020 - Thank you for setting the record straight. Since she's a lesbian and I a gay man, the homo-phobes out there are going to have a field day with my using the word straight. Nevertheless, thank you for your information. It was very helpful.

  • @UtahCarl Well, while she didn't seem "vulnerable", she seemed to have a good "sense of self" I think. Sort of like the words she sang in "You Don't Own Me". I think that was good advice back then & good advice now to any young girl who may get mixed up with a controller person. But, I see where you're coming from. She seemed more strong than feminine, but she was still gorgeous and talented and all of us girls simply adored her. She sang about our lives in that very innocent time.

  • @steviethecat Lesley had great managers: her parents.

  • Ahhh , sweet Leslie, you were my FIRST LOVE...lol. Seen you on Batman and that was it, lol. THOSE EYES...anyway sweetie, thanks for the wonderfull music and thanks for making me grow up so fast...hehe.

    take care love....miss you. Joe...

  • @pb4ueat1 I saw her on the Batman episode, too. For many, many, many years, "Caliafornia Nights," one of the songs she sang, was my all-time favorite pop song; and I am going to check it out right now on YouTube!

  • @odovicor On part 2 of Batman, Lesley sang a song she wrote called "Maybe Now". It was the B side of the single "California Nights". Originally, Mercury Records was going to release an album titled MAGIC COLORS, however, the single did poorly and they shelved the album. Lesley went back iinto the studio and recorded tracks for the California Nights album (the single was moving up the charts quickly).

  • @stevemichaels2020 I love the pop culture education (Folk Studies minor in college) I get on YouTube! Thanks for the info. Cheers!

  • Ms. Gore is soooooo talented. i saw her in Philly and she was an excellent performer. I bought what was her latest cd, and fell in love with it. She just has "IT", and it is still working to this day. In fact, she was very comical that evening!

  • Love you forever Leslie. The way you speak is just as beautiful, warm & loving as if you were singing. You bring joy & smiles to this fan big-time ! No doubt about it, you are a peoples' person. I hope I get to give you a hug before my life is over. Of course if I do, I'm sure I'll turn into complete mush & drop dead right then & there.

    God Bless you dear !

  • God..I' haven't listened to Lesleys music in ages but have just downloaded about 12 songs.

She's an underrated talent and sounds as good today as she did back when.

    Love her eyes too.

What puzzles me is why haven't any of todays artists, like Girls Aloud,Pussycat Dolls ,Gabriella Cilmi etc..covered her songs. They lend themselves so well to pop music in 2010.Shit..I'd love to hear Amy Winehouse cover her stuff.

Huge talent and she seems like a really nice person as well.Thats always a bonus

  • Tanks for posting. Tis is great. LG is a much bigger talent than she gets credit for.

She did a show that's on youtube that left me with a brand new respect for LG. Look up a clip called "Leslie Gore TAMI show." The whole show is great, but she is the show stopper!!!

  • She's so pretty. How old is she in this film?

  • hay leslie my name is jose im from chicago , a record producer . and i was hearing a song and i had this crazy ideal, i think we can make some hits from then ,make it know.. i no u can do it , its like the feeling of when quincy found you. the same way ill pass these ideas and tell me wat u think , you love to sing ,in a new time lets do it love to hear from you ........ jose......

  • She made some extraordinary records, it's a shame she let someone talk her out of doing "A Groovy Kind Of Love"...instead it went to Wayne Fontana's group the Mindbenders, and they had the chart topping hit! Wonder if she has ever told the full story in an interview form, of what went down? My Fav. Gore tune "Maybe I Know".....but don't have her Lp's, so I have a lot of listening to catch up on!:-)

  • @Tunz909 Bear Family Records has a 5-cd box set of all of Lesley's songs recorded for Mercury Records. Now out of print, it does show up on ebay from time to time. It contains her foreign releases (French, German, Italian) as well as the different versions of some songs. Well worth the price if you are a die-hard fan of Lesley's.

  • Fantastic post! Thanks for this! :)

  • Lesley, thank God for that convergence of events, with your having a good vocal coach and having Quincy Jones within earshot. Lucky for all of us. If only they still made records with large groups of skilled musicians and professional background singers.

  • It's Lezzie Gore !

  • @spazzcat03 You suck, homophobe.

  • @ItsMrPumpkinhead2U - Thanks again, my friend. We're not going to change the world but by God we sure as hell can have our say so. I already wrote the idiot from a previous post which said the same thing, so it looks he's getting pummeled from all sides. Thank you and if you have the time, write me sometime. I find folks like you very interesting and always like to discover more about the intriguing ones. And no folks, I'm not coming onto him/her so grow up.

  • @spazzcat03 - Not to mention you're an asshole, homophobe.

  • @argerichluvr

Lighten up, the world doesn't hate you. I could go for a BJ. Interested?

  • @Razersun You probably just should go to a porn site and take this out of the realm of Lesley Gore and Helen Thomas. These are the only two sites I frequent. This business does not belong here; you're also not part of the triumvirate which makes up Helen Thomas' site that keeps ATTEMPTING to bash me. I've blocked you once and ostensibly it has not worked. Next step, I go to Y.T. directly because I know I don't want to read this garbage and I'm sure others on Lesley Gore's site don't either.

  • @argerichluvr

    Butt hole off limits?

  • first of all, her name is spelled L-E-S-L-E-Y.

    and she ages well :)

  • An intelligent woman and her eyes are somehow sparkling. Try to get the Video "The legendary ladies of Rock`n Roll", where she`s on stage with Brenda Lee, Martha Reeves, Shirley Austin Reeves, Mary Wells, Ronnie Spector and other great singers. She gives a wonderful performance there (concert in the late 80s). All the best to her!!!

  • Lesley still has a style.

  • Lesley is now on Facebook. Her page is the one with the black and white photo.

  • Thank you Leslie, you are very generous to give the interview and stay in touch with your fan base. Your fans admire and love you. A wonderful talent and a great human being with a warm personality. Thanks for posting this video - I am very grateful

  • @AndrewKoala Yes, Lesley is a very warm, friendly, generous person. After each of her concerts, she comes out to the lobby and meets her fans. She takes the time to talk with them, have photos taken...no matter how many fans are there....she chats with everyone...no matter how tired she may be.

  • One of those singers, who like fine wine, as actually improved w/age. LOVE HER!

  • Lesly gore sings better when she was 17 than now

  • @maludasa101 - Now that's a remark of a genius. And I don't have my 30" waist like I did at 35. The vocal cords are very frail muscles and like any muscle, they're going to atrophy some throughout the years. Being a vocal coach, I can hear where she has taken VERY good care of her voice and her body, because the two are intertwined. Yes, her voice HAS lowered, but that also comes with being 63. So your comment is terribly idiotic.

  • @argerichluvr You nazi just shush you mouth or shell I say Sewerage

  • scoundrel I love this interview. If you ever have a chance to talk to Lesley, thisis what she is like. She is very friendly, open and honest. She has a great sense of humor, a wonderful memory and is very considerate to her fans.

She is such a nice person. This is Lesley being Lesley in person.. as a person.

  • @JP51558 Totally agree with you JP. I have met and talked with Lesley many times.

  • Check out Lesley's new album, released June 2005, titled Ever Since. Contains an updated version of You Don't Own Me. Also contains her version of Out Here On My Own. One of my favorites on the album is Not The First.

  • Quincy Jones brought us Leslie Gore then Berry Gordy brought us Teena Marie

  • I love her and she was way before my time. This era was such a blast. So many good songs. Thanks for posting.....

  • Lesley was featured on Little Steven's Underground Garage last week-end. (He LOVES her!) My very first 45 was hers: "That's the Way Boys Are". 'Nice to be reminded again of what a great singer/entertainer she was.

  • She seems very warm and down to earth. Great to see.

  • @zhg0507 Absolutely a very warm, friendly, down to earth woman. I have met her many times and she has always been cordial. Go see her in concert.

  • So much talent and what a great interview with a true legend. I remember her back in the sixties and now have found a whole new respect for her honesty and God given talent.

I also love her voice now, because she sings her songs with much more heart and soul.

Lesley please keep bringing us all this wonderful music with the love you have for the joy of performing and singing it with all your heart.

    sc in Dallas

  • Lesley has always been a great talent, and now after seeing this interview and listening to the music, she still is a wonderful entertainer and love her personality.

I would love to sit down face to face and have a chat about her life.

And her eyebrows are just thinner not lifted.

BE nice to a nice person.

    sc

  • She's still a pretty lady.

  • She's still a pretty lady.

  • wonderful woman and so talented

  • An American legend! Leslie is so humble and lovely in her style of sharing her story! I love her voice, and firey ways! I would never want to have an arguement with Leslie!! Ha! I would no way win! love ya and always will!!

  • she is a lezbo !! thats a fact!!

  • SO WHAT? She's a magnificent singer and a survivor. You creeps sound like you are still in the Middle Ages or somewhere in Hickland.

  • @mrcreepers - And your name fits you well, homophobe. Yes, she's a self outted lesbian and I'm an out faggot, queer, homo - whatever you want to call me. I thought CREEPERS like you were a thing of the past, but unfortunately we'll always have to put with some narrow minded piece of garbage who ruins it for all of us. Now, if your d**k is as small as your brain, you've got real problems, sweetheart. Now go listen to Lesley and her wonderful voice and try to find the good in both.

  • What a fantastic interview, and an amazing artist .(where did this"shes Gay" thing come from???) (and would it matter?).She has still got that fantastically beautiful smile. I wouldnt mind betting her songs will still be played in 50yrs time, along with Elvis,Beatles,Rolling Stones,Beach Boys and poss; M.Jaskson.

  • Why is her voice so DEEP now?

  • old.

  • It sounds like a cigarette voice when she talks, but I don't know if she smoked or not. Her singing voice is still pretty-good, though.

Many women gave away their voice (or some of it) to those darned things. Joni Mitchell is gone now as a singer for all intents and purposes, but what an incredible voice before she lost it!

  • @409409ed It could be post menopause...some women's voices change as they get older.

  • @HOHNancy Or it could possibly due to vocal cord surgery.

  • @kypoppa - What a comic. Don't quit your day job you idiot piece of sh*t.

  • @argerichluvr bite me you sad bastard

  • I have not paid attn. to leslie in years.

This is a great interview and she is such a huge talent. Thanks for sharing.

  • @jrlaven48 Check out Lesley's album, Ever Since and her fan club site: lesleygorefanclubdotcom. Also lesleygoredotcom.

  • @jrlaven48 Check out Lesley's 2005 album titled Ever Since. it includes updated versions of You Don't Own Me, and Out Here On My Own. A great album!

  • She does not appear to be gay... Still agreat singer...

  • @LJJBLOES how would one appear to be gay?

  • @MSRAMIREZTATIANA i second that question.

ljj ect.s prolly just confused by the lack of gender norm breakage.

  • @ljjbloes What do you mean "appear to be gay" LOL Do you expect her to be having sex with a woman while the interview is happening?

  • lmfao!!!!...that would make the interview a bit more interesting.....

  • @Chris10sn1 yeah..and kind of worth watching

  • @EffLabels ...yeah, this was a really bad interview...was she reading a script...? i think your idea would have made this 60's teen idol interview a lot more interesting. Oh, and BTW, I am a huge fan of hers and have seen her in concert twice. Too funny...maybe ljjbloes means that she needs to have a razor cut hairstyle and wear chinos and Birkestocks... morons never cease to amaze me....

  • check out Lesley's site at lesleygoredotcom and her fan club site at lesleygorefanclubdotcom.

  • Lesley's new album, Ever Since, released June 2005, is a great album! Nothing like her sixties music. Features new versions of You Don't Own Me, and Out Here On My Own. You can hear clips of the songs at Amazon.

  • Nice interview Leslie, My older sister had many of your records and many of the hits of the time and we had so much fun dressing up and playing the hell out of our parents record player. I laugh now when I think how many times my sister dressed me up as one the shirelles or the ronettes and we made up dance routines and sang along. We had so much fun then thanks for being a part of it.

  • @myboylollipop09 I love her and she was way before my time. This era was such a blast. So many good songs. Thanks for posting.....Leslie is so cool. What a pioneer

  • Fantastic. She did 2 of my favorite all time songs that i still love to this day: That's The Way Boys Are, and You Don't Own Me. Thanks Lesley!!

  • she is great
