The sparks are the steel cores disintegrating upon impact. How does bird shot or Buck shot create a shower of curly, firework like sparks that then disappear?Go to the range in the evening, fire a shotgun into the dirt, then fire STEEL CORE 7.62x39mm into the dirt and you will understand.....kid

When a bullet or some other type of round sparks - in civilian rounds - its typically caused from friction on the metal jacketing striking or ricocheting off an object. But yeah it could have been a 12 gauge if they were using some kind of metal ammo which is even more common than buckshot
